for the D drive of my laptop to be able to be ejected and for it to fold out into a little chamber thinggy and for you to be able to download food from the web and have it be instantly fabricated in the chamber. imagine the potential- e.g sampling some food from a restaurant before u eat there!

what about if you have another lens at the back of the laptop and you can take high definition movies photos etc and then you can play them with the same lens which it will project it on the wall or thin air. pretty kool.. soz im in a rush lol i hope you get the general idea ..
I'd like to see the CPU part of the laptop sitting behind the monitor rather than the keyboard. It would be easier to keep the CPU cooler sitting up high (sometimes a big problem with my crappy vaio) and would also allow for a more natural placement of the trackpad IMO. The keybaord could even become a superflous element, there could be handwriting recognition on this secind surface and it could also be a full-screen trackpad for graphics apps! still those old clattery keyboards in 2009!!!
I think it would be awesome to have a projector on the laptop, maybe next to the webcam. You could play movies,slideshows, YOUTUBE! Teachers could use it to show lessons without printing it out,saving paper. t could be used for business meetings,proposals and the list goes on.
hope I'm not too late ... but this has been something I've been thinking of for a looong time. Pretty simple but;
If there was some kind of sensor that detected the angle of the monitor, so the screen correlated if you sat the laptop on its side (for a4 word docs) or upside-down and the screen "knows" so you could angle it off a desk etc to watch a movie.

A laptop where the keyboard is replaced by a touchscreen display taking up the same area as the screen yet on the opposite panel, the display could change dependant on what you were doing at the time for example. Playing games the person would have the choice to layout the controls in any shape they wanted so it was easier to do without moving fingers.
Drawing something, the bottom screen could turn into a big drawing area, the top half showing the picture as it develops.
Alternitavely, a completely soft laptop. Everyone has saw the bendable LCD screens that have been made they could literally make a laptop you could just throw across a room at someone to show them something.
Drop it down the stairs or stand on it in the dark and not worry about it breaking at all as laptops are delicate and tend to need fixes for little fiddly bits breaking off.
hello... i know this is more of something you would see in the future, but i think it should be in the NEAR future... i think there should be portable hand held Toshiba, windows seven all of your avrage window's computer has on it such as, click and drag ( drag unwanted app's into your garbage) more of a computer feel, unlike the ipod touch.i dont like the Zune though! or portable webcams using skype, msn webcame chat. and finger scan login if this was more like a windows, noone could steel info
When not in use I would like a laptop that could sort of reshape itself (or it's own power) in sort of transformer style, into a bracelet or necklace (their would be male and female designs) that would mold its metal to the shape of your arm or neck (loosely, no death here). Because laptops may someday be as thin as paper I think it would be an interesting carrying method, and it would be great for people like me who have disables and sometimes have trouble carrying things in our hands/on backs.
A virtual interfacing system. Press a button and it pops up sort of like a holoprojector, but one that allows physical interaction, allowing you to "grab" components, and move them around as you see fit. Wanna get rid of an old file? No problem, grab it and throw it over your shoulder and it's as good as gone. It'd have to be pressure sensitive and have a definitive sense of solidness, as well as being able to be used with a stylus as well as an individual's hands and allow for fingerprint scans

I think a feature designed for video sharing sites would be beneficial. It would openly display the description of the video in VIVID detail to inform the viewer. That along with a software that kept people from being complete jerks on the internet. One can only dream I suppose.
i'm sick of the same old physical keyboard. I want 2 (OLED, as a matter of fact) multitouch compatible screens. One of them will replace the keyboard. You will type with an onscreen keyboard, or use it for an extended display when you put it flat. Haptic feedback (vibration when you touch the screen) would be nice, too. If you really don't want to use an onscreen keyboard, just plug one in via USB, or bluetooth.
I say a laptop that is thin as the new OLED Tvs but you can fold up or roll up your laptop into your pocket. The laptop is just one screen that can be bent in a 90 degree angle when "unrolled" and the bottem end screen turns into a keyboard via touch screen. :)

Blunty, First props for doing this and then to read all of the comments. I know they have programs that sort things like that all ready. Well I do not know if it has been said But doing a lot of Adobe stuff i think where you up load photos and it makes you look HOTT no matter what. Too fat makes you look just the right size, too thin no worries it will thicken you up a bit. I think that the way people are today that would be something loved by man and woman alike. make any picture look great!
I want to be able to upload a digital picture and the laptop can automatically search the web for the person or the product you took a photograph of. An example would be if I took a photograph of a street performer in San Fran, I upload the photograph to my laptop, the laptop automatically finds information about that street performer.
Blunty, I think the world's best laptop would be one that could be controlled by thought processes alone or even better predict exactly what you want to do everytime!
And it would have an in-built feature that enables it to update itself with the latest available/future technology/hardware even before it's been created, so in effect it can time travel into the future, and update it's self!

I would love to have projectors that would produce an image on my desk of my keyboard for typing I would also like to be able to select things in mid air and have the labtop read my fingers and hand motions so that it will intergrate it into the labtop and make the screen adjust in ways that I want it to without using a mouse I would also like very good voice recognition so i can say things ideas and have the labtop copy it into text 3-D movies and games withouth the silly glasses.
instead of the actual laptop there are two projectors, one pointing up, one pointing to the desk / flat surface in front of you. the projector facing towards the desk projects a keyboard / mouse / whatever on to the desk, and the upwards projector shows the windows you have open, with built in sensors you could move the windows around by pushing the holograms around, like a touch screen but a hologram =P
A big MUTE BUTTON that would silence the general public around you, to silence all BS, all crying kids, and all general disturbing annoyances. Ipod are drowning sound with even more sound. You have peace and quiet in your own home/at libraries etc, but a laptop is suppose to be used all over the place, while being surrounded by noice. A big mute button would take care of that fine... Better yet, an ALL OUT FREEZE/PAUSE option, might be even better. Letting you take your time.. ;)

A feature I would like to see is an almost thin as paper Toshiba laptop that rolls itself out ,when activated, and rolls itself back in when turned off.

Well, everyone knows touch screens, but touchless screens where you move your hands in the air exist too, and I think that would be cool to have. They use electro-magnetic fields to tell where your hands are. They can tell how close your hands are to the sensors, adding another dimension to control. Forget about smudging your screen with food covered hands. More fanciful, it would be cool to have a chameleon laptop that changes colors to appear invisible except for the window you're viewing.

I'd love a Toshiba laptop that rolls up for portability, that's water/shock proof (almost lost my Dell to a spilt coffee), that can wirelessly jack into any available screen near by if need be, and, coolest of all, that can leach processing power from any other computers you have laying around without any faffing about, just daisy chain your mates laptop or desktop for a few hours, for those giant renders... I do a lot of 3d and editing so that would be a big deal for me.
id want mine to control my house, and i want it to be a handheld device to where i can have it in my pocket but when i bring it out it unfold into this amazing, this beautiful piece of macheniery, to where everything would be digitaly viewed into a pair of sunglasses! and i can view the internet, listen to music, and view photos with the control of my mind, and control everything else around me, such as my house. it would be like i can control everything with that!

I would like a laptop that is amazingly durable. WOtj a drove tjat can play xbox 360,PS3, wii, CD, DVD, bluray formatted CDs. IT would also have a nice HD touchscreen with a special screen limiting smudges on screens. An optional AI to help you guide thru the web or have a helping hand in games. The keyboard will be backlit and would fold into the monitor part of the laptop. The computer would also be completely be customizable, processor and all.
I personally think the password sign-in thing is kinda bad, like what if you forget it and you have really important stuff on it? An eye reader thing like in movies would be nice. It could go next to the webcam.
I'd love a built in printer, you know? a laptop that can print without any extra hardware, i'd more then likely buy that, as i print a LOT of course, it'd be hard to take it apart considering you'd have to change the ink, but that's easily countered if the engineers put a little tray that you can take out by clicking a button, similar to a cd tray.
Blunty, building on your holographic projector idea: a holographic projection which you can physically interact with. For instance. You're editing a video, you can have the editing program or whatever projected on your desk and can physically move things around. Or, you're editing a paper you've written. You see a misplaced letter or comma or punctuation mark, you can, with your hand, reach in and just pluck it out.

holographic projector...that was my idea, but here's the new one: A affordable, sleek laptop with a DNA scanner security system for those business people, so that theft, copying, etc, etc would be less likely to happen. Also, a pulse scanner so if the guy cut off your finger, it would miss a pulse, therefore locking the system and safely securing the data.
a built in(or attatchable) printer that doesn't add to much space, maybe it could attatch to the bottom like the battery on a portable DVD player, that would be something extremely useful for me so that i could print essays and such on the go and not have to worry about being near a printer with a cable
complete neural interface, i believe some scientists are working on this angle for the impaired, but I want to be able to have a passing thought control my portable computer. Or even better if they make portable computers ridiculously small, (the size of a microchip today) just have the screen linked to your eyes, and control everything with a thought.
A really useful laptop gizmo would be a scanning device. If you ran across something you didn't recognize, you could scan it, and the laptop would tell you the chemical build up of the object and list some probable uses for it.
I'd like my laptop to be a functioning x-ray machine. The top part you flip up would be see through, and if you flip a switch, the screen would turn off and it would function like an x-ray.
I think it would be awesome if laptops had a built in retina scanner instead of a password system. If the eyes don't match the ones in the security system, it could shine out a class 3 laser to discourage continued unauthorized attempts to get into the laptop.

ok, what i'm thinking is not necessarily a laptop, but it would contain all the things that have made them so popular. what you'd have is a small box that you could fit in your pocket, and it would wirelessly broadcast the information to your brain. the 'screen' would literally be your retina, your background would be whatever you're actually looking at, and your conscious thoughts would control what would happen. you'd just have to think whatever you want to (CONTINUED)
How about a smart phone/laptop hybrid. The smart-phone is a removable device that docks with the laptop. Both can be used separately, but when the smart-phone is docked they work together like a single machine (sharing processing, ram, etc.)
man another wacky idea came 2 me! what about 2 LAPTOPS IN ONE!meaning if you have one lap top and your doing work an your friend wants to do the same work as you, you could on the other side of the laptop fold it down just like on a normal laptop and have another keyboard and another screen so when you are finished with the laptop and u want to put it away it wont get damaged! because your folding both keyboards towards the screen's.

for the D drive of my laptop to be able to be ejected and for it to fold out into a little chamber thinggy and for you to be able to download food from the web and have it be instantly fabricated in the chamber. imagine the potential- e.g sampling some food from a restaurant before u eat there!

I'd like to see the CPU part of the laptop sitting behind the monitor rather than the keyboard. It would be easier to keep the CPU cooler sitting up high (sometimes a big problem with my crappy vaio) and would also allow for a more natural placement of the trackpad IMO. The keybaord could even become a superflous element, there could be handwriting recognition on this secind surface and it could also be a full-screen trackpad for graphics apps! still those old clattery keyboards in 2009!!!

I think it would be awesome to have a projector on the laptop, maybe next to the webcam. You could play movies,slideshows, YOUTUBE! Teachers could use it to show lessons without printing it out,saving paper. t could be used for business meetings,proposals and the list goes on.

hope I'm not too late ... but this has been something I've been thinking of for a looong time. Pretty simple but;
If there was some kind of sensor that detected the angle of the monitor, so the screen correlated if you sat the laptop on its side (for a4 word docs) or upside-down and the screen "knows" so you could angle it off a desk etc to watch a movie.
Anyway, now your mind is officially *BLOWN* ... cant wait to see who wins this!!!!

Id like to have a hands free laptop
like I mean using mind control to well control EVERYTHING, like the mouse, typing and other cool features, but not the stupid type that uses the Giant bicycle helmet but maybe a few wireless transmitters that attach to your forehead or temples, you know so there not in the way and you dont have to be worried bout neck cramps or strangling your self with wires

A laptop where the keyboard is replaced by a touchscreen display taking up the same area as the screen yet on the opposite panel, the display could change dependant on what you were doing at the time for example. Playing games the person would have the choice to layout the controls in any shape they wanted so it was easier to do without moving fingers.
Drawing something, the bottom screen could turn into a big drawing area, the top half showing the picture as it develops.

Alternitavely, a completely soft laptop. Everyone has saw the bendable LCD screens that have been made they could literally make a laptop you could just throw across a room at someone to show them something.
Drop it down the stairs or stand on it in the dark and not worry about it breaking at all as laptops are delicate and tend to need fixes for little fiddly bits breaking off.

When not in use I would like a laptop that could sort of reshape itself (or it's own power) in sort of transformer style, into a bracelet or necklace (their would be male and female designs) that would mold its metal to the shape of your arm or neck (loosely, no death here). Because laptops may someday be as thin as paper I think it would be an interesting carrying method, and it would be great for people like me who have disables and sometimes have trouble carrying things in our hands/on backs.

A virtual interfacing system. Press a button and it pops up sort of like a holoprojector, but one that allows physical interaction, allowing you to "grab" components, and move them around as you see fit. Wanna get rid of an old file? No problem, grab it and throw it over your shoulder and it's as good as gone. It'd have to be pressure sensitive and have a definitive sense of solidness, as well as being able to be used with a stylus as well as an individual's hands and allow for fingerprint scans

I think a feature designed for video sharing sites would be beneficial. It would openly display the description of the video in VIVID detail to inform the viewer. That along with a software that kept people from being complete jerks on the internet. One can only dream I suppose.

i'm sick of the same old physical keyboard. I want 2 (OLED, as a matter of fact) multitouch compatible screens. One of them will replace the keyboard. You will type with an onscreen keyboard, or use it for an extended display when you put it flat. Haptic feedback (vibration when you touch the screen) would be nice, too. If you really don't want to use an onscreen keyboard, just plug one in via USB, or bluetooth.

I say a laptop that is thin as the new OLED Tvs but you can fold up or roll up your laptop into your pocket. The laptop is just one screen that can be bent in a 90 degree angle when "unrolled" and the bottem end screen turns into a keyboard via touch screen. :)

Well I do not know if it has been said But doing a lot of Adobe stuff i think where you up load photos and it makes you look HOTT no matter what. Too fat makes you look just the right size, too thin no worries it will thicken you up a bit. I think that the way people are today that would be something loved by man and woman alike. make any picture look great!

And it would have an in-built feature that enables it to update itself with the latest available/future technology/hardware even before it's been created, so in effect it can time travel into the future, and update it's self!

I would love to have projectors that would produce an image on my desk of my keyboard for typing I would also like to be able to select things in mid air and have the labtop read my fingers and hand motions so that it will intergrate it into the labtop and make the screen adjust in ways that I want it to without using a mouse I would also like very good voice recognition so i can say things ideas and have the labtop copy it into text 3-D movies and games withouth the silly glasses.

instead of the actual laptop there are two projectors, one pointing up, one pointing to the desk / flat surface in front of you. the projector facing towards the desk projects a keyboard / mouse / whatever on to the desk, and the upwards projector shows the windows you have open, with built in sensors you could move the windows around by pushing the holograms around, like a touch screen but a hologram =P

A big MUTE BUTTON that would silence the general public around you, to silence all BS, all crying kids, and all general disturbing annoyances. Ipod are drowning sound with even more sound. You have peace and quiet in your own home/at libraries etc, but a laptop is suppose to be used all over the place, while being surrounded by noice. A big mute button would take care of that fine... Better yet, an ALL OUT FREEZE/PAUSE option, might be even better. Letting you take your time.. ;)

Well, everyone knows touch screens, but touchless screens where you move your hands in the air exist too, and I think that would be cool to have. They use electro-magnetic fields to tell where your hands are. They can tell how close your hands are to the sensors, adding another dimension to control. Forget about smudging your screen with food covered hands. More fanciful, it would be cool to have a chameleon laptop that changes colors to appear invisible except for the window you're viewing.

as well as a fully interactive screen, which i could interact with my touching,
a pocket sized keyboard (optional), which can also be used as a phone (or configure your phone to the computer!)
and being able to shrink my computer screen by folding in the corners, allowing me to take it with me!

Hey mate. I'd love a Toshiba laptop that rolls up for portability, that's water/shock proof (almost lost my Dell to a spilt coffee), that can wirelessly jack into any available screen near by if need be, and, coolest of all, that can leach processing power from any other computers you have laying around without any faffing about, just daisy chain your mates laptop or desktop for a few hours, for those giant renders... I do a lot of 3d and editing so that would be a big deal for me.

I would like a laptop that is amazingly durable. WOtj a drove tjat can play xbox 360,PS3, wii, CD, DVD, bluray formatted CDs. IT would also have a nice HD touchscreen with a special screen limiting smudges on screens. An optional AI to help you guide thru the web or have a helping hand in games. The keyboard will be backlit and would fold into the monitor part of the laptop. The computer would also be completely be customizable, processor and all.

I'd love a built in printer, you know? a laptop that can print without any extra hardware, i'd more then likely buy that, as i print a LOT of course, it'd be hard to take it apart considering you'd have to change the ink, but that's easily countered if the engineers put a little tray that you can take out by clicking a button, similar to a cd tray.

Blunty, building on your holographic projector idea: a holographic projection which you can physically interact with. For instance. You're editing a video, you can have the editing program or whatever projected on your desk and can physically move things around. Or, you're editing a paper you've written. You see a misplaced letter or comma or punctuation mark, you can, with your hand, reach in and just pluck it out.

holographic projector...that was my idea, but here's the new one: A affordable, sleek laptop with a DNA scanner security system for those business people, so that theft, copying, etc, etc would be less likely to happen. Also, a pulse scanner so if the guy cut off your finger, it would miss a pulse, therefore locking the system and safely securing the data.

A really useful laptop gizmo would be a scanning device. If you ran across something you didn't recognize, you could scan it, and the laptop would tell you the chemical build up of the object and list some probable uses for it.

ok, what i'm thinking is not necessarily a laptop, but it would contain all the things that have made them so popular. what you'd have is a small box that you could fit in your pocket, and it would wirelessly broadcast the information to your brain. the 'screen' would literally be your retina, your background would be whatever you're actually looking at, and your conscious thoughts would control what would happen. you'd just have to think whatever you want to (CONTINUED)

How about a smart phone/laptop hybrid. The smart-phone is a removable device that docks with the laptop. Both can be used separately, but when the smart-phone is docked they work together like a single machine (sharing processing, ram, etc.)

man another wacky idea came 2 me! what about 2 LAPTOPS IN ONE!meaning if you have one lap top and your doing work an your friend wants to do the same work as you, you could on the other side of the laptop fold it down just like on a normal laptop and have another keyboard and another screen so when you are finished with the laptop and u want to put it away it wont get damaged! because your folding both keyboards towards the screen's.

i think it would be sweet to have a laptop that can controle the lights on and off and brightness and run the shower while your like in you bedroom and control the temp of the water and it should be water proof so if you spil andthing on it and just for looks a cup holder

I think the future Toshiba Laptop should be a a full on robot. not just having simmilar qualities to a robot as you said having a 3-d projector like R-2but rather being a full on little droid!

I want a laptop that has so much power, it allows you to enter the worldwide web and transport to another location.
