  • Whatta Whatta

    pure magic

    Hetfield voice > OL, tho

  • Wow, I bought Garage Days 25 years ago or whatever, and this was always my favourite song on that album. I knew it was a cover, but I had no idea who did it. After hearing it done by the guys that actually wrote and performed it. I'm floored. I can see why Metallica jumped on it. It is exceptional. I don't know if the guys from Holocaust are still around, but holy fuck, that is legendary. An exceptional example of a band that isn't a house hold name and should be imho...

  • Why does every comments contain metallica? This isn't a Metallica video. (Yes, I know I am not helping.

  • @CoolKabbage the answer is simple... Metallica is the best band ever.

PS. I like this song not becouse of Meta... Holocoust is awesome!

  • Wo0t!

  • Kinda wierd hearing an actual chord progression behind the chorus melody. On Metallics'a version, the guitars and bass all do what the vocal is doing.

  • Metallica ripped many bands off... then they tried to make their own music and it all sucks since the horrible Black album.

  • @jacksorengan ripped off? Thats not the word you are looking for. Like many young bands, Metallica covered other great musicians music. I do it, most everybody does it. 95% of Metallica's music is far from horrible. Songs off Reload, St Anger, etc would be hits if they were done by other bands. People just didnt want to see change or be open minded to new things. Thats bs. No one can do what Metallica has done. Their songs are epic masterpieces. Dont hate. You will never have half that talent

  • @louevil555 Ok, fine I was being a little too harsh. Theres nothing wrong with covering other bands, and I like Garage Days, but in all seriousness, they have sucked since the Black album. I was the biggest fan of Metallica going back to the beginning and they changed in a bad way. This is my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

  • @jacksorengan Hey guys, check out this original and controversial opinion!!

  • @moceanu original and controversial?? Jacksorengan is just stating the obvious. Its a no-brainer that Metallica SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @louevil555 They haven't been good since the Black album and haven't been great since Cliff. They should have stopped. What made them interesting and relevant ceased when they started making videos and being corporate lap-dogs. You can't be convincingly angry when you fly on private jets, live in giant mansions and make millions of dollars for farting in a studio and calling in a new single.

  • @iamstinkynoreally why does everyone hate on metallica?? they were a great band. still are! metallica gone through things you could only imagine. and all there albums are great . st. anger get alot of hate cuz thats exactly what it is! just listen to my favorite song the unnamed feeling. your probably saying to yourself" fuck no! the drums suck ass cheeks" thats what i thought but they reall y fit in after a while. so please take a second to listen to the other song (cliff died after master)

  • Vocal sucks!

  • Opeth is actually a good cover band too. I know there is no relevance to what I said to what is going on but I read something of Remember Tomorrow, which Opeth did as well as Would? by Alice in Chains... I know they've covered a couple more. But yea...

  • Guitar solo sucks

  • why the hell did they play this in e-standard tuning? it sounds so happy in comparison to the studio version

  • i like this better......

  • He looks like he´s high! AWESOME!!! lol

  • Metallica has to be the best cover band ever, although Van Halentakes a close second.

  • megadeath should do one

  • James hetfield just has has the vocals this song needs. Sorry, but have to side with metallica on this one.

  • this is the real deal.... fuck metallica

  • Can now say after 12 years I've finally heard the original version and both are amazing!!!

  • I heard Metallica's cover first, and I'm glad to finally hear the original--it's awesome!

  • 8 people are stupid!!!!!

  • Fuckin A.Good song whether Holocaust playz it or Metallica doez. It's all 'bout the message the song carriez.Different soundz carry different messages to different people. We all carry different pairz of earz and all hear thingz a little differently.Think about that.Hit me sidewayz, hit me head on or from behind(not in the ass, please!),it doesn't matter.Music,in all it's complexities, will be heard in so many wayz depending on the listenerz perspective.Anyhow, just fuckin like it or don't!

  • What fx is that? Phaser? Flanger?

  • @Oni64 phase

  • NWOBHM?? What the fuck is this shit? All your freakin labels for music... it either rocks, or it doesn't... this does.

  • @nurvedamage NWOBHM = New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

  • @soadratmetc Gee, thanks Einstein. Like old school Metallica fans didn't know. You can thank Lars, he is the one who introduced NWOBHM to the U.S and other countries.

  • @ElectricHellfire It was what's known as a response. Look at nurvedamage's comment.

  • "so this is something called... the small hours" "YAAAAY" lol

  • this is a killer song

  • anyone ever tried a seance? it's sometimes good!

  • 5:01 <----pretty much where Metallica got most of their inspiration from

  • @Feijoada1 Wrong!

  • Tempo boys!!

  • this song was written in 1980 more or less, metallica cover sounds better..??? obviuosly you dickheads, it was done 20 years after, at that time there were EMG pickups, the technology on the studio recording was improved, the music styles changed, etc.... then it´s obvious going to sound better, but don´t forgget this song was a big influence in metallica´s career, no one is better than the other, thats all subjective...dahhh

  • @niugsoggoth Metallica's version wasn't 20 years later. Garage Days EP came out in 1987...

  • @lb8675309 ... ok i was talking about the Garage Inc, not the Garage days re-revisited, im not a metallica fan so i didnt knew that this song was released by metallica in 1987, my mistake, but i was right in one thing, i was reading Premier Guitar(september 2010) a EMG speciall interview with Rob Turner, a comment where metallica´s kirk hammet says "the sound of heavy metal relies on the sound of EMG pickups"...i don´t think holocaust use these pickups, the EMG were invented on USA.

  • @niugsoggoth Kirk Hammett obviously has endorsement ideas supporting his EMG comment. They most certainly are not necessary for heavy metal sounds. I've heard plenty of heavy guitar coming from passive pickups that weren't made by EMG. Personally I hate active pickups. They're way too high maintenance and eat up batteries like crazy. When the battery is fading they start to sound like crap too. Good passives are much better for me.

  • @lb8675309 ....OK, that´s right, not all active pickups are great, but they do not suck either, it also depends on the guitar, and the player most. Then also K.Hammett, said´that these pickups improved metllica sound as well, it´s only his opinion, it´s not 100% right, it´s a subjective theme, but my point was Metallica got a powerful sound in 87 and even more in 98, than holocust in the early 80´s....

  • @lb8675309 Besides, it's such an obvious bullshit statement since Hetfield doesn't use them anyway

  • @Feijoada1 ....daahh morron ....go to E.S.P. guitars, check out the hetfield signature guitars 90% got active emg pickups 81/60, so if you don´t know about guitars shot the fuck up....stupid ignorant.

  • @niugsoggoth lol learn to spell before you accuse anyone of being "stupid"

  • @Feijoada1 ,,,,,learn to think before you open your stupid mouth.......

  • @Feijoada1 Be nice to me

  • @lb8675309 I disagree about the battery thing, I have had 9 volts last up to 2 years after playing every day or so, up to hours each time. Though, I do like Dimarzio more.

  • @niugsoggoth met cover is from '87 dude

but both are good for sure

  • @ChikaNeca....87 or 98 cover the garage days re-revisted or garage inc doesnt matter this cover sounds exactly the same, is not my personal opinion, buy premier guitar (sep 2010), kirk hammet and james hetfield said so, "the sound of metallica relies on E.M.G. active pickups".....it´s not my idea or my personal comment, it´s their opinion....thats one of the reason´s why metallica sound

"better" than holocaust, i mean if this is really true....

  • @niugsoggoth stupid commercial

  • what is this song about?

  • @mavr95 , it's about Seances, as the singer announces at the start of the video

  • 100000 veses mejor el cover de metallica ;D

  • Great song for its time for sure but holy shit look what Metallica did with this song.

  • Excellent!!!

    \m/

  • this is one of the greatest songs of all time every part of it is perfect

  • Good song, Metallica's cover is much better and I think this singer kinda sucks in this song tbh

  • With out bands like Holocaust, Diamond Head, Budgie,... Metallica may have never been around. Just listen to Metallica's early stuff. Huge influences!! Get off their backs!!

  • @BrianBeamers

NWOBHM + punk = thrash metal

  • Holocaust did a tribute to Metallica's "Master of Puppets," I don't know why this bothers anyone...

  • haha SuckonTHis what a great metal tune of course Metallica covered it! It's great songwriting. There's nothing to debate...just...listen...to...good...music! Try to make some of your own. Tomorrow we die.

  • Metallica me gusta massss fuck holocoust

  • @patocolocolo16 METALLICA HIZO EL COVER MUCHOS AÑOS DESPUES ¡¡

  • haha metalica sucks. just take a listen to st anger. ouch. all the while james is in rehab . man what a crock. like the rest of the band couldnt pull their heads out of each others ass long enough to see that album sucked .. that and they killed napster . thats not metal man .

  • @ottgooroth i agree st.anger sucked because they tried to change their way of music but the older albums rocked

  • great intro badass band

  • Seyonces? WTF?

  • @metalistas1993 seances

  • all of you that hate holocaust or metallica are a bunch of crybaby pussies, accept that they're both good

  • this song gives me a evil fucking feeling inside everytime i hear it! holocaust fucking rip it up! heavy metal mania! oh and fuck metallica those sellout trendy wimps

  • @SLASHFANG you are about retarded, get off metallica's back for doing remakes of songs for garage inc. they had permission!!! get that through your 4 inch skull! jesus, !!!!!!!!!!!! you suck as a person for saying that

  • Metallica fans are the biggest fucking idiots. You fucking assholes would have never heard of this if it wasnt covered by them. And when a band covers another, it usually means the band doing the covering is SHITTIER. So stop saying that metallica version of everything is better. This rips harder than ANY metallica. End of story. But i would like to thank metallica for ruining this! Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • Metallica's version has more distortion. But this also kicks ass.

  • badass

  • Most of these comments are more or less irrelevant. Suppose a band covered a Metallica song. Would you go on the video for the original Metallica song and talk about some band that covered it? I wonder if I'm the only person watching this who actually owns and has listened to any Holocaust albums...anybody want to talk about Holocaust? I have a song I downloaded called "Iron Will" that crushes but does anybody know what album it's from? It's not on any that I have.

  • @jpss011876 you are so damn right bro... i cant understand why metallica fans talk shit about bands like this.. if it wasnt for NWOBHM probably tallica couldnt have the inspirations that made theyr first album so brilliant.. whatever i dont know much about HOLOCAUST but i-d like to ask you if you like another grEat british band... TYGERS OF PAN TANG

  • @vastowildbrothers

John Sykes was in that band, another great one. Angel Witch was cool too

  • I hear Sabbath in this. Sabbath are in Metallica's rear view mirror. So Holocaust are one of the "missing links" ... it's the Madiera talking!

  • Do not ever relate metallica and sabbath please.

  • Nice! Both good bands, i wonder why there are so many people saying Garage Inc. is stealing songs and that Metallica sucks,

*Metallica does NOT suck, Holocaust does also NOT suck.

    * Garage Inc. is not stealing, Metallica had the bands permission to make covers to show how much the bands have inspired Metallica to become what they are, Met. actually asked Iron Maiden if they could make a cover song of a Maiden track, sadly, Maiden said No

  • Old Metallica was good. Now they do suck.

  • that was a smart move on maidens part cause look what happened to holocaust, people are forever going to associate them with metallica based on a cover song but fortunately for maiden if they had said yes then they wouldnt have had the same fate since their one of the biggest bands in the world

  • @MrZombow

Why did Iron Maiden say no?

  • @MrZombow remember tomorrow?

  • @JuanitoXeneize94 Well, there are ALOT of Maiden tributes, Metallica was one of the many bands that was inspired by Iron Maiden and wanted to make a tribute.

And Metallica says that Remember Tomorrow has always been their favorite Maiden song. Mine is Dance of Death though.

Metallica have stated on their website that the song "was basically the blueprint for songs like 'Fade to Black' and 'Sanitarium, ain't that cool or what.

And to mark my last word: Metal up your ass and Up the Irons =D

  • @MrZombow

iron maiden suck ass fucking snobs

  • @metalt0v I don't really care about your opinion, but I've gotta admit, you got a bad music taste :/

  • @MrZombow

no i dont fuckwad i like their music just hate their attitude!

  • @MrZombow

Almost at the end of the Last Caress/Green Hell you can hear the beginning of the Trooper

  • @visualito mmm its run to the hills no t the trooper

  • @guitarmexikanguy

    Yes, yes, yes My mistake

  • @MrZombow

thats why they play the intro of run to the hills as they do the last 10 seconds of playing last caress/green hell song on the garage inc album!!!!!! Funny as hell actually. Metallicas way of saying thank you Brit assholes :)

  • @MrZombow Technically you don't need permission from the band you just need to pay a cover fee to the company that released the song.

  • @MrZombow lol so thats why at the end of one of them u heard run to the hills but it s different

  • Then Maidens the pussy band.

  • @jfkdjfd Actually, Metallica covered 'Remember Tomorrow' a few years ago.

  • @MrZombow you can hear the intro to "run to the hills"at the end of Metallica's cover of last caress/green hell.

  • @MrZombow Until they did Remember Tomorrow for Maiden Heaven!

  • @adithyamet92 You got that right!

  • @MrZombow No Metallica should not cover Maiden! They should cover Painkiller or Ace Of Spades!

  • there both good but metallica's odviously better

  • What ? you listened to Metallica when you were a day old? lol dont think so Geek.

  • really??? This is a fuckin holocaust video not Metallica!! get over it

  • this sounds more like doom metal, like cathedral instead of metallica

  • it's funny yet sad how much metallica sucks

  • I'm a Metallica fan for about 16 years(which is my actual age) and i love their music and what they do... but you can't call them cavemen when you listen to the solo.. as far as i'm concerned.. you're the caveman! those where the days man... Metallica looked almost like cavemen too...

  • Nothing beats the original! 'Caust's version outclasses the Metallica one easily!

  • Nice. but i like Metallica more. SOwwy.

  • I'm more into Metallica's version as well

  • So easy a caveman can do it! At 03:05.

  • good call mang.

  • man,...i grew up with 'tallica's version, but this is RAW...i love it.

  • it's easy too cover. the magic is in the writing.

  • yer a knob. the magic is in my phlegm in yer face.

  • @Ritchie360 Right. So right.

  • i prefer metallica's version, this is pretty good anyway

  • i also prefer metallicas version but i like to hear the actual writer

  • I prefer Metallica's version, because there is more distortion than this. But its fucking awesome anyway!

  • nwobhm rules

  • <3<3<3

  • Not bad... guitar player's a bit sloppy.

I like the song's flow though.

  • Holocaust LIVE (Hot Curry & Wine)

  • Metallica's version had a more ominous sound because they dropped it from E to D and it sounded more sinister.

As one who remembers the original and the Metallica cover, I say I like em' both.

Holocaust had another song called "Death Or Glory" that was pretty decent.

I know that musical discussions are sometimes heated debates, but considering what these guys had to work with in the day, (as opposed to today) the sound is special and unique and it works out just fine!

  • Doesn't it sound better suited in D tuning? It's got that lumbering, dead-man's-crawl pace that just begs for a heavier tone. Sounds OK as is here, but Metallica lowering it down to D does make it more sinister, as you said. It definitely helps enhance the mood of the song.

  • Hey, sorry it took me a few days to reply, but yeah, the D tuning Metallica put on this song, as well as the heavier crunch puts a new spin on it.

I think Metallica would have done well to make Enter Sandman in E flat as well..the lower pitches make things really sinister, no doubt.

  • To be honest, I wouldn't know what tuning a song is in unless someone tells me. I can HEAR the difference, but I couldn't tell ya EXACTLY what tuning a specific song is in because I am far from an expert. If I hear a few examples of songs in different tunings, I could get somewhat of an idea of what tuning a song is in. The best way I know is by tuning your own guitar to something and playing something just to have a point of reference to compare to.

  • I'm no expert either, that's for sure. If I was, I'd have stuck with my lessons and made them count. I had 6 or 7 years of lessons but some things got in the way, oh well. I still play though.

But it's hard to say why, but after a while, trained players have a way of learning by ear, perhaps because of the training itself.

It's something I can't really explain, it has to be experienced. I'm kind of at a loss for words to describe it.

  • oh yea!!!! i hate that Metallica's version is only a cover... they should OWN it

  • If these guys didn't write the song, Metallica couldn't cover it!!!!!! Besides, it kinda bugs me that Metallica didn't do the flange effect that these guys did on the intro. Metallica played the part just with clean guitars, other than THAT, it was one of their best cover songs.

  • its cool that they wrote it, but im just saying, i think metallica's is so much better, but hey, that's just me

  • I agree with ya 100%, just pointing the obvious out, I guess.

  • It's cool how the vocal melody in the verse is similar to the vocal melody in the verse of Kiss song God of thunder.

  • true

  • i loved this song when it first came, then it got very surprised when metallica did a cover of it. Still one of my favorit vinyl in my collection. Original is always best.

  • uhh metallica did it better :D

  • This is just EVIL!!

    I love it...

  • This is great stuff here. Guitars sound heavy as hell. The whole song sounds good as is, but I also like how Metallica slowed it down a little when they recorded their version, which made it sound even creepier.

  • This song was in a Bones Brigade video back in the day, night pool session I think. Anybody know where I can find that? Not sure if it was Holocaust or Metallica version...

  • where is this footage from? is it from the Live from the Raw Loud 'n' Live Tour Video? Holocaust rule!

  • That's hardcore thrashing for the very early 80s, boys...

  • After hearing Metallica for over 15 years, I am kind of burnt out. It's cool hearing something else for a change. Besides, if Metallica didn't cover this, we might have never heard the original. That is how mainstream bands help underground bands sell more albums.

  • Wow! heavy as fuck, those skull shattering guitar tones are rather like what greg anderson and stephen o'malley are recreating nowadays.

  • What an amazing song these no names wrote. I got to believe that the reason they didn't get much recognition is that the singer just really, really sucks. He's unbelievably horrible, but it's still an amazing song.

  • regards...ShaneMo

  • i hate coming on these original videos and hearing how "metallica did it so much better" fuck off metallica woulndn't have even done it if it wasnt for them so sit back and listen to the song

  • for real

  • Freakin' amazing.

  • Amazing. Love both versions.

  • how old is this song? like 70s?

haha love it.maddd sick, like both verions actually ;p

  • no,James sounds like him

  • Correct.

  • Right on -Metallica ripped off this great heavy NWOBHM band!

  • you're only a product of your influences my man

  • I doubt anybody woud've ever heard of Holocaust if it weren't for Metallica covering this song.

  • i know, metallica actually opened me up to a lot of bands like diamond head, holocaust, sweet savage and the list goes on. Im glad they covered them though

  • They did the same for me. I still searching for albums made by those bands. Motorhead's "Ace Of Spades" is the only one I've found so far.

  • try diamond head's lighting to the nations, saxon's wheels of steel and any iron maiden album. Overkill by motorhead is good too
