I remembered watching this show a few years back on discovery channel. but mother didn't let me watch the hole show, because she had her own business with the TV. and was like so pissed the next day not believing that i've missed the show. I JUST LOVE SCIENCE MAN!! LOL :D
I wonder what will happen if we find intelligent life in other planet how we will react? I mean we will make peace with that intelligent life? or we as humans will create a conflict with that intelligent life?, maybe slavery of that intelligent life or extermination of that intelligent life for our reasons. We are ready to meet other intelligent life in the universe? And that other intelligent life in the universe will be ready for us?
@dienesalex we all ready found 500 planets in 2014 there will be 1,000! And its all ready been the tip the iceberge because we found a real earth like planet gliese 581 g look up on google it was discovered in late september 2010
Well it's possible... But for the foundations of life (bacteria) to surrvive we need to be a certain distance from the sun, imagine the chance that in a whole univerese the planet is just right. And after that there has to be a specified atmospheric boundary (Ozyone layer) although natural gases can vary, on top of that the physical planet has to be soil to support nutrients for plants and just to hold us up, unlike gas giants... Oh and whoever said anything against Hawkins burn in hell you...
@burnitall01 Not, even at the heart of the same stars could be intelligent beings living, but they have to build balls of fires to travel across the universe because any low temperature could kill them. In this way could make sense that some UFO sightings describe ball of fires, not falling but flying in horizontal direction.
i just found out that the guy who plays dr. perry cox in scrubs narrates this! I brought this into my ap bio class and my classmate said "I need to know who narrates this, his voice is pretty awesome." And at first i was incredulous but now that i think about it, its definitely him, and that just made my life. Just needed to share that.
Just a thought.. what if life as we know it is different from one planet to another? what if they breath nitrogen or any other gas and oxygen for them is toxic.. just like early life.. oxygen for them is toxic.. they breath in carbon dioxide... what if aliens breath different gases? or what if they don't need water to survive or what if water for them is toxic? What if another alien lifeform saw our planet and they thought its inhabitable due to water? We should open our minds to possibilities..
I am studding to get a degree in Astrobiology and I find this documentary dose fit very well in planetary evolution, some of the life forms they show do fit in with the environment they evolved in. Im hoping to get a job with the S.E.T.I institute and I hope one day to fined life outside the solar system.
Funny to see how its not seen as weird anymore these days to believe in aliens, perhaps after another 10 years itl just be the foolish creationists that deny the evidence. Since there is coming more and more evidence. I hope to see the day that there will be cold hard undeniable evidence for alien life. And to see religion once again getting owned by science about the place we have in our universe.
How about if creationists are right, but our god is a type 3 or 4 civilization? How about if the first born in the universe are those who have intervened in human history as old testamnet decribe as God?
But then u would have to redefine god in such a radical way that u would have to invent ur own new religion along with it.
But i do have an open mind for the existence of godlike beeings. Who knows in a million yrs the earth is ruled by somekindof superintelligence and there isnt anything left that even remotely resembles a humanbeeing,
What evidence is there that life is on other planet? What "foolish creationists" are you talking about.
Sheesh, I know its become the "in thing" to bash Christians but give it a rest. Why do you have to show your arrogance like that? It would be like me saying that anyone who doesn't believe in God is a foolish atheist who will go to hell.
@jamyfromfin I think to create a new religion is not necesary, some humans need to believe in God, as it's described in the bible for their lives to make sense.
there are many ways to especulate about human future, it's a good exercise.

Invision a series about probes sent to other planets inhabited with life, some planets being tidally locked, some low gravity and some high gravity worlds, some populated by radially symmetric species decended from starfish like creatures and even a few sapient bronze age aliens as well. It would kick ass!
yes they who make these films like Alien Planet 2005 intro are ok they get away with it, but when people film the real space objects no one wants to now or take notice.

Don't you realize what Hawkins just said? Life must have spontaneously come about ie non-life created life! How does that happen? How can something so complex, which the tiniest cell is, be produced from something that is not?
First, self-replicating molecules, which do not have parts nor are alive, but do reproduce and thus do go through natural selection.
They get incrementally more complex as evolution kicks in. And does take a a while. DNA took about 1 billion years to appear. But once it did, made things run quite faster.
I also agree that God did it. But the question is HOW did he do it. He wouldn't have just (snapped his fingers and) made it happen out of nothing. He would have done it according to the rules and laws of the universe. A miracle doesn't defy natural law. That's why certain people don't recognize a miracle when they see one. But science can still allow us to understand how it works.
starbat88:just think of god (as i do) as a big scientist,he just experimented more and more, becose if we are the perfect creation where are all of his mishaps, and with us there is always room for inproofmend.

Step by step.
First, self-replicating molecules, which do not have parts nor are alive, but do reproduce and thus do go through natural selection.
They get incrementally more complex as evolution kicks in. And does take a a while. DNA took about 1 billion years to appear. But once it did, made things run quite faster.

Life was actually created by certain molecules coming together to form a living bacteria cell.

This movie must be really great, I really like whole idea of evolution on another planet. And I love Stephen Hawking.
