I love how from just watching Hingis in 1997 Wimbledon SF against Anna Kournikova, and now I see her play and her game is still lethal if her body can last it. :) Oh Martina your tennis skill is so wonderful to watch!
No, the commentator means that because the opponent is Hingis, Jankovic's game is enough to power through Hingis even though Jankovic is not known as a power player. Jankovic constructs points but there is depth and heaviness and when the opportunity arises, she will put away the ball with power when she needs to.
I agree. Whenever Jankovic plays nonpower players like Hingis or even Mauresmo, it often makes Jankovic seem like a power player. The same went for Clijsters who did hit with considerable power, but she seemed like a lightweight when faced with the power of a Davenport.
Yes, and now in 2008 we can see Jankovic hitting her normal crisp, clean groundstrokes with more heaviness, pace and winners. Combine this with her known consistency, thinking, low errors and ability to get a short ball or put away volley, this throws opponents off and disturbs their game.
exactly. That's why I love watching Jankovic play because she rarely makes errors. It's like you know her opponents are always going to make errors, but she won't. She does hit pretty hard and I like how can suddenly pick up on the pace when she hits her signature backhand shot.
Hingis migth not have that huge power as everyone knwos very well, but it doesnt mean she is going to be out of top 10 because of it, and I dont think Azarenka was playing smarter, she only hits and hits there is nothing diferent of whar other players do!

Hingis probably should play on the girl's tour given how weak she hits. And the girls are not only getting stronger, but smarter. Look how Victoria Azarenka littered Hingis at the USO this year. I expect Hingis to be out of the Top 20 next year, and retire again soon after.
Hingis was coming off of playing a very late-night match. Stupid scheduling.

Martina Hingis is the best.. In this game she was tired and she had a lot of unforced errors.

clijsters was much more powerful than jankovic but they both have great defensive games

clijsters had more power but had more UE, jankovic has less more power but very few UE - but in comparison to most players they both have very low UE

what i was basically trying to say that clijsters is more offensive and hits a heavier ball than jankovic

Wasn't that the issue for Hingis in this whole tournament? Her play schedule was totaly bungled up!
