Thanks for the post revelation, I had an uncle in the Australian UN contingent in Korea. I visited Australian war graves in Busan a couple of years back, and laid flowers for all our countrymen who died there. Their sacrafice is not forgotten by the South Koreans.

That was the unifrom for Aussie Diggers at that time, but they did carry helmets. No they were not forced or volunteer's, they were all regular army from different Bn's as part of the UN's forces. Plus it never was a war, war was never declared, the same in Vietnam.
A large proportion was made up of "K-Force" Volunteers who were not regulars but WWII vets volunteering for a one year tour. I think about 2/3 of the initial contingent were K-Force.
I hope none of you mind that I take this moment to honour the Belgian soldiers that fought and died in Korea. I know that we haven't done that much but what I do know is that we always did our part and were never afraid to step forward where others dared not go, as did the Australians, and by the Australian blood shed on Belgian ground i swear never to forget their sacrifice nor that of any soldier who died for his/her country. May all the heroes of old rest in peace.
Korea was yet another conflict where Australian soldiers excelled & did their country proud. The Australians have always punched above their weight in every conflict that they have been involved in. They fought alongside the British in WW1 & WW2 with great distinction & honour. Bravo Oz, many thanks! RESPECT.
Perhaps you would like to quantify your cynical remark with some evidence? Do not cite Gallipoli either, because plenty of British soldiers died alongside their Australian comrades. Nations outside the Commonwealth have no concept whatsoever about the bonds between CW nations & the mutual respect that exists between it's members. Thanks for the post revelation, I had an uncle in the Australian UN contingent in Korea. I visited Australian war graves in Busan a couple of years back, and laid flowers for all our countrymen who died there. Their sacrafice is not forgotten by the South Koreans.

But China and North Korea was in the war, and Soviet Airforce was also in the war. And South Korea, USA and many other UN countries was also in the war. It wasn't small war and really many soldiers and civilians got killed. It's sad that this war is being forgotten from most people.

That was the unifrom for Aussie Diggers at that time, but they did carry helmets. No they were not forced or volunteer's, they were all regular army from different Bn's as part of the UN's forces. Plus it never was a war, war was never declared, the same in Vietnam.

A large proportion was made up of "K-Force" Volunteers who were not regulars but WWII vets volunteering for a one year tour. I think about 2/3 of the initial contingent were K-Force.

I hope none of you mind that I take this moment to honour the Belgian soldiers that fought and died in Korea. I know that we haven't done that much but what I do know is that we always did our part and were never afraid to step forward where others dared not go, as did the Australians, and by the Australian blood shed on Belgian ground i swear never to forget their sacrifice nor that of any soldier who died for his/her country. May all the heroes of old rest in peace.

Korea was yet another conflict where Australian soldiers excelled & did their country proud. The Australians have always punched above their weight in every conflict that they have been involved in. Nations outside the Commonwealth have no concept whatsoever about the bonds between CW nations & the mutual respect that exists between it's members. The average Brit on the street loves Oz & respects them for their support in both World Wars, even if they do paste us at cricket much of the time!
