  • excellent vid!

  • Caltech or berkeley?

  • Thanks for uploading!

  • I went to Caltech for a marine bio camp. I was ( and am) 12. It's an awesome school. =P The main thing I remembered was .. The turtles.

  • such good memory of freshman year at caltech.

  • My daughter is freshman at Cal Tech and said this years demo was even more awesome!

  • i was accepted to caltech, but chose to go to northwestern instead because i feared the small university life

  • Cal tech is awesome. I sometimes drive by that college. Recently I've been searching for a software developer, but i probably have a better chance with youtube.

  • I wish I could have gone to a good university like that instead of FSU.

  • MMMmmm.. that KOH gas... that sweet sweet KOH.....

  • gee aren't you a fun person

  • And amazingly they get a better education than you egver dreamt of.

  • and wtf i dont see myself on this vid where was i loll

(this was like only ch1 class i ever went to)

  • i miss nate lewis!

  • we do this in chemistry only on a smaller scale and we set fire to Na and K(they set fire to them selves if you set them on filter paper) and dont get the paper too wet

i want to go to caltech even more i wonder do they do this at queens?? i wonder

  • my god i have toughed that water

  • I want to go to caltech so bad.

  • Have you been admitted?

  • Actually the fourth he threw was francium (I think). But he used a very small quantity, and the result is not appreciable ^_^

  • Actually, it was cesium. He skipped rubidium for some reason. And, he didn't get to francium, most likely because it would've begun reacting with the water in the air before he had even thrown it. Also, francium is incredibly expensive.

  • Also, there really isnt enough francium on the planet for proper fun....

  • no, francium is so radioactive that it can't exist for any meaningful period of time.

  • i thuoght francium was radioactive

  • tiny half life

  • what i just said i htought that i may be wrong i don't know and im guessing you dont so ,tell me again i must of missed it what's your point?

  • theres only 20 grams of francium on entire earth at any given time though!!!

  • @DJDorianGray There is no way that was francium. Francium is extremely rare and extremely explosive. It is thought that about 20-30g (1 ounce) exists at any given time in earth's crust. What is much more likely is that it was rubidium, which is the fourth element in the alkali family.

  • @DJDorianGray If you listen carefully to the video, he clearly says Cesium, but due to the way in which it reacts with a liquid and the fact that it is rather expensive, he only used a very small quantity.

  • yeah try some francium...itll blow your mind

  • seems very interesting.

How many times do you have classes like this in a semester?

  • He's throwing alkali metals into the pond to make them react with water.

  • what's he doing?
