Cal tech is awesome. I sometimes drive by that college. Recently I've been searching for a software developer, but i probably have a better chance with youtube.
we do this in chemistry only on a smaller scale and we set fire to Na and K(they set fire to them selves if you set them on filter paper) and dont get the paper too wet
i want to go to caltech even more i wonder do they do this at queens?? i wonder
Actually, it was cesium. He skipped rubidium for some reason. And, he didn't get to francium, most likely because it would've begun reacting with the water in the air before he had even thrown it. Also, francium is incredibly expensive.
@DJDorianGray There is no way that was francium. Francium is extremely rare and extremely explosive. It is thought that about 20-30g (1 ounce) exists at any given time in earth's crust. What is much more likely is that it was rubidium, which is the fourth element in the alkali family.
@DJDorianGray If you listen carefully to the video, he clearly says Cesium, but due to the way in which it reacts with a liquid and the fact that it is rather expensive, he only used a very small quantity.
excellent vid!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I am amazed that Cal tech resorts to such childish displays of chemistry...
I would expect this bull shit from a middle-school science class.

Actually the fourth he threw was francium (I think). But he used a very small quantity, and the result is not appreciable ^_^

Also, there really isnt enough francium on the planet for proper fun....

no, francium is so radioactive that it can't exist for any meaningful period of time.
