@skenny513 Not in 1997 they weren't. It gradually became more and more accepted to the point where true "off the top" freestyle battles were viewed as irrelevant. Today, it's widely accepted to use writtens in battles, so people think that they always were. Or when they hear someone like Nocando go off the top, they refuse to believe that it's true freestyle because it's too good to be true.

I've always been a eminem fan, but I always was under the impression that his battles were 100% freestyle of the top. The razor stich you lines were clearly written. He's still talented, but back then, NO ONE used written lines. If you did, then you were a fraud. That's the just the way it was back then. But I still love eminem, but you can't expect to beat someone with writtens if you're freestyling. Especially when it's their best lines.
