My City Detroit, always taking a beating from the press, but when I come on youtube and see these 2 groups, just makes you proud to be a Detroiter!! Thanks...nice video!!
@LadeeCen The Mary Wilson Supremes Gowns Collection came to my city and I was fortunate enough to see the green swirl gowns up close. Mary had them changed in the 80's, but they're basically the same. She just removed the scarf collar piece and added a strange wrist cuff. The entire gown from head to foot is decorated with tiny tubular sequins hand sewn to the garment. This was the same with many of the gowns on display. Many, many hours devoted to the exquisite details.
@alezanspa The TCB program (Taking Care of Business) aired in 1968. It was a special featuring The Supremes and Temptations. I believe it was aired once. However, I am not completely sure. The Supremes and Temptations paired up again in 1969 to do another special called GIT (Get It Together) on Broadway. In that show, they sang only broadway songs. No Motown hits.
I will never forget sitting down in front of the TV and watching this show...I was enthralled and will always enjoy the music. I saw the Supremes perform at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, I was there for all 24 shows 3 times a day for 7 days...the first show was so crowded that they moved the rest of the shows to the Geodosic (sp) Dome from the Music Hall. They will always inspire me....their music was full of so much love...
Thanks for posting!!!!!! I love those old shows!!! I live in the Motown and miss all the excitement of the Glory Days!!!!!! I am a Diana Ross fan and can sing most of her songs!!!!
@Spadesz93 Yes I'm pretty sure I have it, but my DVD copy has a couple glitches and it cuts off part of Taste Of Honey. It cuts off the very beginning.
When I get a little time, I will try and post that.
I love this show. As a little boy i was so excited to see this show and went out and brought the music, made me want to be entertainer, now living in hollywood and working in the very studio where this was taped. Great memories.
Thank you for this- an especially great time capsule because it includes a "previously scheduled program" interruption of "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" as well as the classic animated NBC peacock. You think you've really gone back to 1968. (I was 6 at the time!!)
what a great clip. have never seen 'tcb'. heck, wasn't even around when it first aired. surprised motown has never released this or 'on broadway' on dvd. would love to own both. thanks for posting. enjoyed very much.
@Motownman100 Cindy is rather striking. Like Rue McClanahan and Tina Turner, one can DEFINITELY see her Native American ancestors in her cheekbones... I think Mary is the best looking (she and Barbara Eden could be twins separated by 10 years), but I've always liked Cindy, too...
Whew ! Mary was TOO PHYNE in this video! Now, don't get me wrong. All three ladies look spectacular, but Mary was giving great sex appeal in the performances. When the camera pans on her as they walk towards stage left? LAWD HAVE MERCY is all I can say!!!!!!!
I MISSED THIS SHOW MY BROTHER AND I WAITED FOR WEEKS FOR IT, AND THAT NIGHT MY MOM SAID GO TO THE GEMCO(TARGET NOW) WITH HER FOR SOME XMAS SUPPLIES AND I WENT AND CAUSE WE WERE NEW HAD JUST MOVED THERE A COUPLE WEEKS BEFORE SHE GOT LOST AND WE KEPT DRIVING IT WAS FOGGY AND WE WERE BLOCKS AWAY FROM HOME FOR OVER AN HOUR UGH! WHEN I GOT HOME MY BROTHER SAID WTH HAPPEND? I WAS SO UPSET I MISSED IT, HE TOLD ME OH MAN IT WAS GREAT, I WAS ABOUT 11 THEN, I HAVE TO FIND IT AND SEE IT LOL
Diana gets a new wig after lights come on. they must have spliced different takes from several full rehersals and shows. Some of the show's numbers were done without an audience and they used many of these as closeups, then spliced or intercut with those with a full audience
wow, it doesn't get any better than this...I would love to see Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber do this....bet you they couldn't top this. they probably would lip sync if they did do it...haha
I remember this like it was yesterday. Sitting there frozen in front of a little black and white television whose knobs had long ago disappeared. They all were wonderful! To see this in color is a trip. Many thanks for sharing.
Thanks usspike! It's good to see this, and in COLOR! When this first aired I was all but 14 years old and no color TV! Had to beg my mom and step-dad to watch the program! Wonder if they will ever release the full program on DVD. Or did they? Anyone know, and if it is available how I can get it? Again, usspike, thanks for TCB!
where can I get this entire video or DVD? I wanna see the whole show. I'm glad u posted this. I wish Motown or whichever broadcasting company aired this would put this and G. I. T on Broadway, put it on DVD like asap.
@zariahnyree My copy is a DVD transfer of a VHS copy. I bought it from a private seller. This is the entire program. Timex commercials included. I also have the GIT program I bought from a different private seller. Second hand transfer copies are pretty much all you can get. There must be some sort of licensing or something restricting the release of these programs on remastered DVD. Unless they think there's not a big enough demand.
What great talent

The historic significance of this cannot be over-emphasized!

@shmuli9 Supposedly Diana is part Cherokee. I never knew that- but based on the symmetrical lines of her face, it's not far fetched

Priceless video.
A thrill watching a young Dennis Edwards, fresh out the Contours, step into
David Ruffin territory and actually pull it off.
Cindy Birdsong is so strikingly beautiful.
