Why would the west of Antartica melts more than the eastern part? Well, look at a map - the answer is there for those who want to see it - the western part is just an extension of the Ring of Fire running all the way down western South America and into the western part of Antartica. Submerged volcanic activity due to plate tectonics are causing this. On the Greenland topic - just remind me how the place got its name?
im studying environmental science at a uni in south australia, done a bit of research and there is evidence that CO2 follows a rise in temp not the other way around. so the current change in temperature may not be completely mans fault, however this is just one view point. but we still need to change the way we use nat resources, we are runnin out quick! check out 'home' on youtube, very interesting.
I am conservative and I do believe the ice is melting. I don't believe we are the ones causing it though. Back in the ice age, things melted and there was no industry to cause pollution to make the ice melt. However, I believe it is important to study what is happening and if it's going to drastically change our life. I don't think govt regulation or reducing cows in fields is going to change what is happening. The earth will get rid of us when it wants to.
actually in ice age there was volcanos that created carbon dioxide that affected the greenhouse effect so it became warmer and most of the ice melted.
what a convenient belief.... I don't think you can completely deny that humans have not have some contribution. It's exactly this kind of denial that contributes to the problem.
yeah, it's hard to tell if this is a real issue that they found a way to profit off of, or a completely bs issue they've invented in order to profit off of it... i'd like to err on the side of concervationalism. all the environmental stuff aside - any low-level tech will tell you that electric power is cleaner and more efficient than anything else
let me get this straight... your solution to fucking with the natural environment is to introduce some sort of congealing chemicals into the earth's water supply...
well if you think a little it would be possible to make it unless science, therefore scientists, prove it wrong.
also, my idea was to develop a chemical that is like alcohol, with a lower boiling point than water, but working the opposite way WITHOUT altering the seawater's original components.
or something like that, me not scientist btw, but i do understand the meaning of "ecologic".
"if you think a little", then yeah, i can see introducing more chemicals into a complex system we're just barely starting to understand is a totally 'why the hell not?" type of an idea... if, on the other hand you make a regular habit of thinking, if say, you do it both for a living and as a hobby, then it seems like just the sort of short-sighted 'patchwork' solution that would leave the future generations with ecological problems that dwarf our current ones in comparison. bainaokthx.
I'd love to see the conservatives come up with such a succinct and informative scientific study proving otherwise. Do climate change conspiracists truly believe that this is in fact just an elaborate multi-billion dollar hoax? I would recommend getting educated at least on how science works.
i am, what i think you'd agree is "educated on how science works", and until recently was convinced that everything coming out of Al Gore is 100% true, or at least honestly-motivated. there are 3 issues however, that have planted serious seeds of doubt in my mind. #1 - al gore is going to make an obscene amount of money from cap&trade. #2 the claim that solar activity is melting ice throughout the solar system, not just earth. #3 nobody on the environmental side wants to rationally discuss #2.

It would be easier to believe if goldman sachs was not going to again benefit from a cap and trade system. follow the money.

is there a possibility that science could design an ecologic chemical to pour into the ice to make it stronger and more heat-resistant?
