They also can not get deep enough into the water to pretect themselves from the sun's harmful rays. They also have a fraction of the space they were built to swim in. Wild dolphins swim up to 40 miles a day! The tiny seapen they are in is not nearly big enough. They also have no use for their most important sense, echo-location. That is equivalent to us having no use for eyesight, it's like being stuck in a barren grey room for all our lives!
You seem to really love the dolphins, I was wondering if you are aware of several unpleasent things about the dolphin research center. They currently have four dolphins who were cruely captured, not rescued, from the wild. Seapens like the ones the dolphins in DRC live in can can be very contaminated as dolphins excrit four times more then humans. The water in such seapens is often much more shallow then wild dolphins live in and the water heats up fast, making it uncomforable for the animals.
@tigercheerleader3344 I have also volunteered for the DRC. I left because of disturbing events, but I will say even though these dolphins CAN leave, MOST of the dolphins were actually born at the facility so they have no clue what's beyond those pens. It's like when people have been born into cults, they are reluctant and scared to leave because they have no other knowledge. The word "research" is an absolute JOKE- what are we learning from CAPTIVE dolphins that pertains to wild dolphins??
my family has been working and voulunteering at DRC for almost 10 years now!! YES most of the dolphins were born in the facility, but the people at the DRC are RESEARCHING about the baby dolphins and some of the the diseases that the adult dolphins get when they age. Also the DRC is also unlike SeaWorld and any other marine facility, DRC doesnt FORCE the dolphins or sealions to perform, if they dont want to they simply dont! Also please share with me the disturbing events you incountered?
they breed baby dolphins to beef up their "collection". DRC takes GREAT care of their dolphins, but the diseases these dolphins and sea lions get are not comparable to wild dolphins. Look how bored the male dolphins are when you walk to the first pen after the bridge- they are bored out of their minds- and they are highly more intelligent than we are. DRC doesn't force the animals, but have you seen them feed them for no apparent reason? making the dolphins kiss and paint shirts is so disturbing
how is makeing them kiss and paint shirts so distrubing, if they didnt want to paint or kiss they dont have too, its there choice, just like it was your choice to stop voulenteering for the DRC.
I highly recommend you watch the movie "The Cove" with Ric O'Barry and you will see the truth behind this business. Kilo was purchased from Sea World.
@tigercheerleader0907 Kilo was BOUGHT from Sea World- a monetary transaction- to add to the "collection". I'm sorry, but if you see no problem with making highly intelligent dolphins kissing and painting shirts for our own selfish desires and entertainment, then I have nothing else to say. Sorry The Cove didn't spark passion in you for these animals- it sure did me. This "research" center is making a mockery of these animals. But we are all entitled to our own opinions. Good luck to you!
I don't understand. If you love dolphins so much how can you be part of any type of training. Dolphins are supposed to be in the wild, not at a swimmingpool
These dolphin are not in a swimming pool, dear one .. they are in the Gulf of Mexico, but protected. And .. they have offered to be at the research center to teach us .. not so much for us to teach them. We think we are training them? Well .. maybe, but .. we are the ones learning. I bless them for this sacrifice, don't you ?
Ok, then we can all bless all the kids in Africa that are dying every day so we learn different things. "Protected" is a a very polite way of saying what I said.
Thank you for correcting it .. when I did the video, it sounded like the gal was calling her Santee. However, the emotion is remains, no matter what we call her .. she is a darlin being!
Such beautiful beings! I can watch this over and over and each time I can feel the peace, joy and magnificence of these gentle creatures. I love listening to them. Thank you so much - I will visit this often!!!!
