I'm a bit confused though, I noticed he wasn't blowing in the bagpipes, is there another source of air? Or am I just confused about the anatomy of the bagpipe?
They're tuned AEA here, but G drones (without the D 5th) work too. The tune actually alternates between modes, with the 1st, 3rd, 5th parts in modal A and the 2nd, 4th etc in C major!
That is absolutely amazing. I loved it. I don't suppose that tune (Cuckold Come Out of the Amrey) can be played on the highland pipes. I tried to find sheet music for the tune but nothing I found seemed to match what I was hearing and the two I found were only 2 or 3 lines long which can't be right. Any ideas how I can find the sheet music?
Cuckold can be played on the highland pipes, but you'd need to start on a B rather than A as played here. The sheet music is in Peacock's collection, available via the Northumbrian Pipers' Society website, but you'd need to transpose it up one tone. Hope this helps
Chris, the sample page of Peacock's collection shows a couple of tunes that are only a few lines long. How long is "Cuckold Come out the Amrey?" Are you playing other tunes in your video to fill the 4:37 or are you repeating (which I cannot detect)?
Cuckold is a variation set played twice through here. The full setting is in Peacock's collection. Most of the tunes in there are variation sets, so the sample page you saw isn't very representative of the content!!
I finally have Peacock's Collection and I found the tune in there. I can follow the first five measures and then I get lost. I can't reconcile what you are playing with the music. Can you help clarify this for me?
Is this tune available on your CDs? Perhaps if I was able to slow it down I could figure it out. Thnkas for any help you can give.
Mind boggling. Didn't watch - just closed eyes and listened. This is the finest piece of NSP playing I've ever heard.

Take note of the bellows under his right arm. It is pumping air into the bag. This is different than the highland bagpipe which is mouth blown.

@Johndunbar116 There's a bellows under his other arm, which he pumps in a similar way to the main bag, but he pumps the bellows in and out.

Very cool playing. Quite simply put, I'll be lucky if my playing on the Lowland pipes ever reaches that level.
