  • You guys take them for a day and think its fucking bad, imagine being my age and taking prednisone you guys have no fucking idea, i swaure.

  • I have taken them for a few days and I will never again I had the side effect that made me have really bad cramps to hell with that drug

  • The virus could also be causing the sweating...

  • I was referring specifically to prednisone used for autoimmune diseases, but the same should also apply if you are taking a lower dose; take doses at equally spaced times and taper off the dosage...

  • This stuff is making me sweat like no other. I have to take 3 a day for five days because i have some virus.

  • The doctor who prescribed just a six day course of prednisone must not have much experience, going from 60 mg daily to 0mg in six days is very reckless...

  • Prednisone suppresses natural cortisol production which may lead to Addisson's- like symptoms (sweating, confusion, dizziness; I thought I was having a heat stroke!) if you miss a dose or you dosage is reduced too quickly. If you feel this way, immediately take your next dose, drink some fluids, and take a cool shower! Then talk to your doctor about the frequency and strength of your dose....

  • My tonsils have been swollen since December its now June. I have tonsillitis. And they gave me a prescription for Prednisone 10 MG. I have to take 6 a day for 2 days. Then 4 a day for 2 days, and 2 a day for 2 days. I started today and I took a quick nap and i thought i pissed in the bed, but it was sweat. My shirt was soaked especially around the neck area and my back. I could squeeze the sweat out my shirt and I have heavy eyes. Is this a common side effect from this medication? Thanks!

  • @MrAUFANATIC I don't recall that as a side effect of Prednisone, but I had sweats like that before I was diagnosed with Wegener's granulomatosis. Though it is unlikely you have the same diseaqse as me, that kind of sweating is notable. You should bring it up with your doctor the next time you have an appointment, and get his professional assessment.

  • @phainopepla95 Oh but I really didn't start sweating until I started taking it. And I did read up on it, and it said that it could be a side effect.

  • @MrAUFANATIC There never seems to be an end to the awful things this drug can do to your body. It encourages me to be more assertive with doctors (in a nice way, of course!) when they prescribe a new drug. The sweating business is a new one to me, and I appreciate knowing about your experience, as should anyone reading through the comments to this video.

  • @MrAUFANATIC it actually is look it up on websites but i have that side affect alot !

  • @cosner4 That's good to hear. I really hated it. every since I haven't felt the same. It's been about a month now

  • The " oh shit " part was the best !

  • @SSNilsson I' m not so sure you aren't right! LOL!

  • Thank you!

  • god bless you

  • That's great advice, @cutiepie1811! Pharmacists are an under-utilized resource when it comes to their specialty, the vast store of knowledge about drugs, interactions between and among drugs, and so on. I have to remind myself of this from time to time, and, clearly, I once again left them out of the loop.

  • Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions or concerns. Trust me, they are knowledgeable and would love to help you!

  • Taken long term, Prednisone causes weight gain, more typically.

  • i've taken this drug for about a week for the poison ivy rash, but my side effect are numbness of feeling and senses, like i don't feel much hunger when i need to

  • Yes swelling to the ankles is a normal thing, also jointpain and stiffness after sitting for a while. prednisone also is said to cause bloodclots. I almost died from a pneumotorax where a blood-clot moved into my lungs after cancer surgery (hysterectomy).I was on prednisone b4 and after cancer surgery. It took me a while to get rid of my moon-face,bad pain i thought my spine would collapse. The max dose I was on was 60 mg prednisone, for a few months.selenium, magnesium calcium (liquid) help .

  • @Grottenfledermaus - The blood clots and demineralization of the bones are classic side effects from this drug. That's a pretty high dose for several months, but you were taking it for a different reason than I. I can only imagine how difficult dealing with the false sense of endless energy was for you since you were on such a high dose! I hope you are doing better now, are healed.

  • I have been on high dose prednisone over the years on and off...and now I am the highest dose I have ever been on (80 mg) daily. I feel somedays like my brain literally wants to explode out of my skull. Any ideas for how to cope and reduce this "head pressure?" My blood pressure amazingly is normal despite the gynormous dose; so the headache is unrelated to hypertension. Any tips from those who experience this pressure pain?

  • @3whisperedwords I get the same thing. I keep a cold pack on the base of my skull in the back. It lays on the neck as well. That helps a lot. I was on 100mg and now finally down to 10mg. Good luck

  • Yes, and the ankles and feet swoll grotesquely. That had more to do with the effects of Wegener's granulomatosis on my kidneys, however. I was approaching renal failure when hospitalized.

  • Did you guys also got swelling in your legs, particularly on the calves?

  • Yes, It is a curious momment when this happens! You form a sense of a person, how they think from their words, but, when you see them "Move and hear [me] speak", you get an important part of how I am, how I communicate. I enjoy these moments myself, when I see others I know only by written, in videos. (Thanks for subscribing!)

  • @phainopepla95 "written words..." 'scruse me!

P.S. Everyone else: Please check out @jimbonious oin Daily Booth. He has one of the most intelligent, thoughtful, beautiful posts on that website. He's a great fellow!

  • The horrid potential side-effects of Prednisone aside, it is fascinating to see you move and hear you speak, after having become so familiar with you only through the written word!

  • after getting an allergic reaction to an antibiotic, they prescribed prednisone...I Have 2 infection thats why i was taking the antibiotic in the first place, and they still prescribed prednisone which is an immune suppresent..they didnt want to give me another antibiotic because they said it doesnt look infected anymore? It doesnt make sense???I had a throat and toe infection......they told me that prednisone will clear up the remaining infection?

  • @SiCkMiNDzPRODUCTI0NS Frankly, it doesn't make sense to me, either. I think of Prednisone as something that reduces inflammation. This is outside of my experience. I'd ask the doctors to explain it to you, however, and ask specifically why they feel this is appropriate treatment. (Maybe not that bluntly, though!)

  • Does the moon face ever go completely away? i need to know, its driving me frikin insane looking like a balloon

  • @jtizz711 Yes, Be patient. Easier said than done, I know, but healing takes time.

  • @phainopepla95 its just a world of suck when you have wegener's. i hate it. it changed everything... :'(

  • @jtizz711 I agree. Everything has changed in ways I could never have imagined. Some good. Some not so good.

  • @jtizz711 yes it will go away, but it takes its time, it took me a while (few months), just be patient, it takes a while to heal your body

  • Experts fail. My dog was misdiagnosed by 2 vets "hip problem" he got 1 Rimadyl barked 11 hours nonstop from pain of ULCER it created. I found problem was SPINAL GOUT shaved fur 1 use of DMSO CURED problem now normal walking!! Vet said "no topicals available" LIARS see they ONLY deal in monopoly RX stuff in immune problem why not try colostrum & deer antler (see SCIENTIFIC studies in Russia, Japan, elsewhere) as USA "science" under thumb of Big Pharma I doubt you get checks from the Queen.

  • P.S. Letting you smear me as biased is a game I don't play. Of course I am biased, as are you. Don't be silly!

My experience with Prednisone is as a person, not a dog's companion, so I truly can't address veterinary use of the drug, let alone all of your other issues. YOUR issues.

You may have a legal basis for a suit against a veterinarian or a drug company. I'm not a lawyer, however, so I can't study and advise on those issues for you.

  • Prednisone killed my dog he couldn't DRINK it wrecked his kidneys drove him out of his mind the vet NEVER told us what his "medication" (read "POISON") could do BIG PHARMA is your DEADLY ENEMY do the smart thing use nutritional approach to disease problems every day I see TV ads by lawyers SUING these evil monsters selling "medications" & new drugs for this or that have LONG list of side effect warnings face it these are POISONS want to restore your ARTERIES use CITRIC ACID from LEMONS no sugar!

  • @skirts365 While alternative therapies can work, there are dangers there, too. Wegener's granulomatosis resists improvement to any vitamin, holistic, Oriental treatments. If the alternative to Prednisone is vitamins, for example, make sure the experts selling that alternative don't also have a vested interest in vitamins. More often than not, they sell vitamins. Lots of hucksters in health and nuitrition. Beware!

  • @phainopepla95 Calling nutrition "alternative therapies" shows bias in favor of synthetics. Profits in drugs vastly exceed those of nutritional items--you are the kettle calling the pot black. DMSO is not RX item but it cured my dog's walking problem after ONE Rimadyl burned an ulcer into his stomach how do I know HE SCREAMED 11 HOURS NONSTOP!! GD 666 PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY and FDA in their hip pocket people realize "medications" purpose is to cause side effects so others can be "prescribed"

  • @skirts365

I would be dead. No discussion necessary beyond that!

  • @phainopepla95 Why is it considered bias when vitamin seller makes $ & not bias when pred seller also makes $? What a warped perspective you display nutritional substances like rhodiola & deer velvet antler have to get scientific studies in Japan, China, Russia etc. because USA "medicine" is so GD corrupt. It's corrupt because of the super rich intermarried families who own it are British Crown loyalists.

  • @skirts365

    You've had your say.

  • @phainopepla95 People like you have no conscience re what your wonder drug does to OTHERS as long as pred helps you intermediate term you are unconcerned what happens long term let us know when they give you terminal diagnosis NOW I've had my say.

  • @skirts365 ~ Wegener's granulomatosis IS a terminal condition but for Prednisone and Cytoxan, starting about the late 1960s through fairly recently. Forty years ago, 90% of WG patients died within 2 years; now, 8% do. You are a raving twit if you think I LIKED Prednisone or don't understand it carries life-changing risks. I didn't, however, understand that at first, and that is the intent of the videos: to address an information gap WG patients need to close.

  • @skirts365 Sorry about your dog. Sorry you think I get a dividend check from the Queen of England's drug overllords. Sorry you and I locked horns. Sorry I don't share your enthusiasm for alternative therapies for potentially terminal diseases. I had the option of deleting your comments, of course. I'm not so noble that I didn't fight that urge from the onset. Let those who read our exchange decide if it was worth the save. (My thoughts took two blocks....)

  • @skirts365 You need to be very careful about alternative treatments as well. I'd be dead if the vitamin salesperson who claimed nuitrition (her vitamins specifically) were the answer to my health issues.

  • I have been taking it for 3 years now...it is crap...moon face and all...but if I stop I get serious oral ulcers..are you still taking it? It is bad for the kidneys and liver among other things.

  • No, I took it between 1-04 and 4-05. One side effect I only recently madfe connection with is the effect of tendons. When I walk, my knees pop. On slanted surfaces, they are worse. Some days I need a cane; others I can get along without it, but often wish I'd taken it with me just the same! I'm always reminded to the saying, "If it doesn't kill you, it will make you better." Perhaps Prednisone needs that on the label!

  • @phainopepla95 how did you stop and quit? I would like to quit it too

  • When my asthma gets out of control , Prednisone is a literal life saver for me .

  • I'm not familiar with that use for Prednisone, but I imagine it has its vicissitudes as well. I know it was part of a package of drugs that brought my Wegener's granulomatosis into control: i.e. saved my life, too!

  • hey i have asthma but it really only bothers me when i play hockey or run......but whenever i get sick it always goes straight to my lungs/bronchi and i cough like mad and am weezy as hell......anyway i recently got a lung/ bronchi infection or virus(they couldnt determine which) and the doctor perscribed 50mg prednisones .....one a day for a week.....what should i expect for side effects? he told me energy and trouble sleeping.....what did u experience...and how is it on the symptoms

  • @giiwed , you can have fluid retention around the ankles , and trouble sleeping is too e expected . If you take it in the morning though , you should be ok .

  • I believe we had a private discussion, by e-mail, and you werefocused on the right things.

  • Me and prednisone go way way back to the mid 70s!

  • Gad!

  • Ahyup.

  • Are you taking it short term or long term? Regardless, if you get through it with so few negative consequences, good for you! Thanks for adding your comment!

  • Prednisone isn't hard for me to tolerate. I have ulcerative colitis and the only side effects I get from it is little weight gain, increases of appetite, and I get headaches more easily. I esd off of prednisone but I'm back on it for only 3 weeks though because my doctor doesn't allow me to stay on it got a long period of time

  • really? have u had a dexa scan to check your bone density? prednisone systematically disintegrates the human body

  • I only take prednisone for a short period of time for my flare ups. Once my flare up is gone don't take it anymore unless it flares up again. So the last time I took it was in the summer. I've had a bone density check before and they weren't too good, which is why my doctor has me on citracal for my calcium and what not. I'm supposed to be getting another bone density sometime in the near future.

  • The bone density issue is a serious one for people on Prednisone long term, and I'm glad you brought that up. A bone density check is a critical part of long term Prednisone use. Anyone on it should bring up the question of a bone density test with your doctor if you are on this drug long term.

  • Even if I wasn't on prednisone I think I would still have to do the bone density checks since I THINK(not sure) colitis effects my calcium absorption.

  • That seems logical, doesn't it. Look it up on the internet, then review it with your doctor. I've been able to get many answers this way, making sure, of course, the sources were places like Mayo, Cleveland Clinic, or places one knows have credibility. Become your own advocate! Doctors appreciate patients who are informed and ask questions, I've found. It saves them time they don't have to explain in detail things you need to know.

  • Two other Prednisone videos you should check out are "Prednisone" by WestConner, and another by christinadevine. I think that one also is called "Prednisone", and it deals with weight gain, a common side effect.
