I don't mean to sound like another complaining geek, but for a level 7 barbarian (as stated in the original video) isn't a level 2 rogue, even when there's three plus of them, a bit, well weak? Especially since they're kobolds.
@sakurasboy Are you questioning the might of the dungeon master??!! (Magic Missle-Magic Missle- Lightening bolt- Lightening bolt!!!!).. your character is now dead.. hehehehe.. i loved playing D&D
@tscotty32 Ok let's see, assuming you were the same level as the targeted Barbarian. The magic missiles would do 4d4 + 4 total, and the lighting bolts 14d6 total. Average damage seems to be around 63 hp. Level 7 barbarian in the DMG NPC charts is 58 hp. So I don't think it's a stretch to think my guy as a PC would have more than 63 hp. Plus the fact that during those 4 rounds I would likely use rage, and that's assuming I failed both saves against the bolts.
@sakurasboy lmao!! greatness.. i think you managed to counter me quite well.. hahaha. Its been forever since I played AD&D ..And I still have all my old dice and character sheets. Those where the good old days. We would light candles and play the sound track to the movie Legend.. remember that old movie? Awesome sound track to play with..
@tscotty32 Glad to see you liked my joking counter. I was afraid that due to space problems I would not be able to get the fact that I was jesting (kinda satire myself by acting like myself) over and I would just seem like a prick.
Ah...AD&D, I have never actually played the older versions, I have trouble finding copies. Generally I go by 3.5 rules, and examples. I used soundtracks to video games personally, but same basic idea. Although we never used candles (I have a fear of fire).
@sakurasboy back in my younger days me & some friends turned an old shed into our layer of doooooom..hehe. We hung up orange christmas lights all inside it, speakers for the music. We had a really nice kick ass place to game. Never really got into it like the video above portrays but we did have some fun gaming sessions. Plus it was more intense the more stoned we got.. haha..
@Dihgal That's usually only if your DM is lazy. If you actually look at the DMG it should only be that way about 50% of the time. I think the chart said you should be facing monsters like CR 5 HIGHER than you 10% of the time, assuming you're using like..random encounters or something. I dunno.
But it makes sense, i mean if the DM just through monsters at you that were brutally strong, it would just end in "run away" a million times. Pretty boring game.
@sakurasboy I could learn a lot from you, as a GM. re: challenge: if the GM just threw monsters at you that were brutally strong, it would just end in "(T)PK" a million times. Recklessness (fun) > survivability. Besides, the players wouldn't have a motivation to optimize otherwise, but I favour optimization.
@Dihgal Optimization can be fun, and I'm not one to say a munchkin isn't usually a pretty smart guy. But in my opinion once you get to the point where you're killing things like 7 CR higher than you constantly and using builds like that "Pun-Pun" one, I'm willing to say I think you're starting to miss what the game designers intended.
@sakurasboy I'm not. You can do either pure combat or pure RP and I would be unwilling to say you're starting to miss what the game-designers intended either way. You can either homebrew like crazy or extract from across campaign-settings. You can RP your character to be as flat or as colourful as you want. To say you're missing what the game-designers intended is [pejoratives]. I could create a game and not foresee the vast meta-game from minds more insightful than me, without ire.
lol these outtakes prove that these guys are actual players, hilarious... I play in a friends basement with swords on the walls, etc... this stuff is legendary
@bphutchins Oh, yeah. The people who wrote this have way too much knowledge of D&D 3rd edition not to have played. I watched this after a role-playing game last night, and the people weren't sure if they should laugh or cry.
I love this shit!

I think it's that Dougie basically stacks a lot of things in Ray's favour, being that they're the only ones who play in their game.

@sakurasboy Isn't it odd how no matter what level you are, your opponents are always the same level as you? Crazy, huh?
