Jeez, do your neighbors ever complain about the noise? Really, you sound great and Mr. Ellis was and still is a major treat to listen to...His musical legacy stands firm against time...
I was playing a Marcinkiewicz there but in reality it doesn't matter what I played. I have a half dozen mouthpieces I could've played it on, what matters is how a mouthpiece fits you! Figuring that out takes lots of trial and error and/or a good teacher to help you in the process.
Awesome job man! It was my great pleasure to meet and play with the Don Ellis Band in 1972. He came to Council Rock High School in Newtown,PA to give a clinic during the day and a concert that night.I even got to take Don's keyboard player to dinner(he was the electronic genius in the band). After the clinic I actually got to sit down and play drums with Don!
my favorite part of child of ecstacy is at 2:32 with that surrounding tone run. In the version with less band and synthesizers and etc. Don plays it and it sounds badass. nice playing though that song would be a motherfucker to get through.
Nice playing! My high school band director (BTW, the coolest MF I ever knew) was a trumpeter and also a friend of Don's. He turned us on to Don, Miles, and Maynard. Those were good days.
We played this in high school (a bootleg lift). This fellow plays it a lot better than ours did. The phrasing on that second phrase is murder. Long...and no place to breathe.
Copied the score into Finale? Cool to hear this again
nice job! the original was played by glenn stuart, it was on the b-side of the eli's coming 45 single and was from the autumn lp, produced by al kooper of all people
Most people are so uneducated in this country that they actually think that the singers on American Idol have talent. Hell, they just happened to be born with good voices. Don Ellis was a freakin' genius. His ability as a jazz trumpeter and inovative compositions were way ahead of his time. God, I wish he had lived longer. Awesome trumpet playing!!!
wow, thanks for posting. only 3 stars for a rating??? obviously no one that understands trumpet playing (or music for that matter) gave you those marks. let us all know when you land your first big gig.
Madsion Scouts huh...awesome drum corp. Sounds good man. Keep it up.

Hello i am also a trumpet player. What kind of exercises have you done to increase your range and endurance in the upper register?
telabooby 3 years ago
Not really exercises per say, just playing up there trying to make it sound good.

Good god, I just noticed the shorts. I could be wrong, but they appear to be green, so I'm guessing that you were most definitely a Scout's lead Sop.

Your shirt is the coolest thing about this video. The playing's great, but the shirt... yeah.

WOW! Nice job... being that not even the top 10 in NYC & LA today can play Don Ellis compositions!

Nice chops you got there!
I've been an Ellis fan for ages as well. It's a shame more people weren't aware of his genius. He left us much too soon.
