  • I love Nana Mouskouri, but the best version of this song for me is Deana Durbin.

  • One of the most beautiful song that I have been heard... an old song... enjoy it... The video is perfect, as Nana Mouskouri....

  • what year was this recorded?

  • Hello RoaringWaterBay

Philips Records released "Danny Boy", by Nana Mouskouri, in 1976 on an album called "Songs of the British Isles".

  • my fav i'm danny carroll i hope someone hears me carrolldan616 aol

  • Inspite of the origin of the song..may I qoute "Music is the language of the soul". The lyrics and melody transcends beyond borders. It depicts the undying human spirit and relationships.

  • I don't think I have commented on this video but I've listened to it a number of times. OP, you did good with the photos and this great interpretation by Nana. Thank you so much for posting.

  • Just found this Oh so beautiful Nana's voice and The video Thank u

  • This is a Northern Irish song...

  • I was born in Ireland and dont go there often anymore. But when I go I go through the country and see the weather and remember myself why i dont go anymore. But when u take shelter in a random pub, the people are always the same. Nicest and kindest people on earth. This songs reminds me of those people

  • very nice song

    Marvelous voice

Thank you very much for your lovely creation

    SMILE

  • Nana does my favorite version of Danny Boy by a female singer. But when it comes to male singers, no one does it better than Roy Orbison!

  • @shapeepster -- Have you heard the one Carly Simon included in her "My Romance" album? I love that version.

  • Ya can't help but to love her as well as this song and as well as the Irish and the day in which ya heard this beautiful voice sing this beauty of a song. Go bless you Nana for washing me own eyes with your tender voice.

  • A beautiful Irish folk song, many have sang this song and many have failed to do it justice, some of those who have managed to deliver excellent renditions include the late Eva Cassidy, Shane McGowan, Declan Galbraith and the excellent rendition by Nana Mouskouri.

This song will never date, a timeless classic of musical and lyrical perfection.

  • @MusicMadGuy2010 Check out Elvis Presley's version. Equally heartbreakingly beautiful.

  • londonderry?

  • A beautiful song and a beautiful country...Thank you ..pklaf *S*

  • Lovely voice! smooth as velvet, Nice rendition.

  • Nana has the voice of an angel. The presentation is very nicely done; your pictures match the lyrics with near-perfection. Thank you for sharing.

  • I love this song.

  • I have to sing this a capella! EEK!

  • celtic women is the best (so far) singer for this song :)

  • were learning this song in choir its so sad :(

  • It seems that the music is Irish and the words from an Englishman.

  • The second verse is often overlooked, but the anguish of separation in life and the hope of meeting again in death is expressed with painful beauty.

  • Nana's cover of Danny Boy is the best among women's and Roy Orbison's is best among men's. How I love thier singing!

  • This song was written by a guy in Chicago who'd never been to Ireland!

  • It's an Irish folk song you idiot.

  • @thickbubba

The song you are speaking about is called I'll take you home again Cathleen, and it was written by a dutchman who owned a pub in Chicago .

The words of Danny boy were put to a old Irish tune called The Derry air by a Englishman.

  • @mckee46 The tune is "Londonderry Air", stop playing politics...

  • Lovely rendition! Nana has voice, that is smooth as Velvet.

  • i don't know why but this song has me crying every time i hear it!

  • Hello Nishta,

Yes, all the photographs are from Ireland, a country that's as beautiful as its people. I hope that the voice of Nana Mouskouri can melt the hearts of both North and South.

    Thank you for stopping by.

    Peter

  • Are these pictures of Ireland? Wow, it's a beautiful country! What a gem of a song sung by a gem of a woman! Nana M has been one of my favourite singers. She makes any song, regardless of which language, so precious! Elle est SUBLIME!

  • its just a song RELAX we have moved on

we have peace in ireland now thanks be to god,so just enjoy the song and leave the politics for another time

    ok

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • Ireland is not a british Isle..... EVER

many ppl have fought and died defending her freedom. Tiocfaidh ar la

  • Tiocfaidh ar la. ....GET THE BRITS OUT.. THEY ARE THE TERRORIST OF home

  • its still part of the british isles but not the united kingdom..

  • @liamcork no we are NOT part of the british isles, ur obviously anglo-irish, 'British Isles' is a term made up by the British government!

  • Ireland IS a British isle. The British Isles are a group of islands off Europe of which Ireland is one. I assumed an Irish person would know that...

  • Just beautiful.

  • Absolutely the most beautiful rendition of "Danny Boy" I have ever heard. Nana Mouskouri has the voice of an angel. Thanks for posting this video with the beautiful scenes to complement her voice.

  • lilith sang this song to her son on cheers, but i can't quite imagine her voice singing it.

  • any one who has lost a child in any time understands the sweet thoughts of this song.Rest in peace my chldren

  • nice version well done nana

    regards

    from ireland

  • Reference to the British Isles was taken from the name of the album when published. This video is only about the music and the song. The voice of Nana Mouskouri transcends politics.

  • Brittish isles? This is an Irish song

  • Yes. Unfortunately some people still refer to Ireland as one of the "British" isles.

  • Its a song from Northern Ireland. Londonderry is not Irish.

  • Also forgot to say, this is the anthem used in the olympics for Northern Ireland. It is MISTAKING as a Rebel song. Its a song the whole of Northern Ireland can relate to. It is NOT a rebel song.

  • The British Isles were so named by the Romans. Mainland Scotland, England and Wales translates to Greater Britain and Ireland as Lesser Britain and with all the smaller isles comprise the group.

The lyrics were written by an Englishman as can be seen at the top of this page.

  • Wonderful voice.. I loved this rendition very much.. BRAVO
