MrAutoanything you didn't listen to the video .... it clearly said you get 2 spools, 2 ropes and a set of nuts for 2 wheels. it doesn't matter if you have an open, lsd or locked diff you use the 2 spools on the wheels
I will have to check it out, as I have a tendency of going where I shouldn't by myself from time to time. this looks like a keeper especially with all the parts together.
so how much is 735 austrailian converted to U.S.? i like the idea as a backup but if thats more than 100 american you forget about any of us americans buying it
man this world is full of morrons!!! WATCH THE VIDEO AND READ PRIOR POSTS BEFORE YOU ASK DUMB QUESTIONS!!! this system is designed to be used on BOTH, BOTH, one more time for the morons, BOTH wheels at the SAME time thereby eliminating the slipping wheel effect!
it is a real nice and practical idea, but I have to say that the desert men are having tricks on driving to avoid such problems and they consider using such winch is an insult to them, hopping some day I will be able to put in youtube.
Looks like a good idea ,, BUT in my world rope wont pull my full size 4X4 , And when its hung up its in 3 feet of clay mud . Also no price ? If its even close to the price of a warn winch no one would pass up a Warn for that . Now if someone wants to work for hours setting something up to get out of a hole just use a set of come -a -longs ..I love the woods , mud and hills but i also use a 4X4 with a Warn .. But i give a " A " for the idea ..
@HY1ST so rope wont pull your fullsize out??? what do you use, rebar? the cable thats in your warn is technically rope. and they even come in synthetic "rope" models now..........its all a matter of matching the rope to your rig. also since you use two ropes at once you could cut the strength in half and still be suffeciant
oldfella42, the only advantage I can think of that you have is power, I dont think power would be a problem for your winch system. As for my winch burning up. I would have to use that winch alot. But for power.I have to use extra cable/chain and snatch blocks. But to be honest I have given this alot of thought (your winch system) and maybe its not such a bad idea for when worse comes to worse. So how much is this kit? In my winch and bumper (I made) I have about 560 dollars.Counting welding rod.
what a piece of shit, "Its a great system" except for the fact it only works if you have a good locking differental and if you can get to wheel to bolt it up, and unlike my smitybuilt XRC8, You cant use it to pull someone else.
@1MudDobber2 it's not a complete piece of shit, i mean not everyone can afford a purpose built winch and bumper to put it on. it's pretty creative actually.
frist of if you run a open diff how is this going to work and 2nd yeah put all the stress on your diff i will put my 10,000 lbs mile mark up agaist any wheel witch
If you watch the video from the start you'll note that we say you get two spools and ropes in the kit. This winch is designed to run off both wheels not just one.
It certainly can be used on a 2 wheel drive as well and you can wich from either the front or rear. We preferably winch from the rear as wiching from the front puts massive strain on the steering joints
I can certainly see having that as an additionial recovery option. Anyone can see several downsides to it, but when you're really stuck who's worried about getting muddy? Hmmm, attach the wheel winch in the mud, or walk 100 miles home and maybe die on the way???
very good idea, and like you said not for competition recovery. self confessed experts will always knock a good idea. it works thats all that matters.
You have obviously had a lot of practice in replacing your solenoids to be able to change them in 2 mins. Realistically, both electric and the Bush Winch are both very good products when used in the correct manner. So far to date I haven't heard of any nuts breaking and I certainly haven't had any break on my kit.
I do alot of trips by myself and each time I've used the Bush Winch, it has worked effortlessly.
well thats a great idea but guss what when the lugs break off and now not only are you stuck but now wheel has feel off even better if the lugs dont break the axles will unless you got a dana 60 and then you no better then to bolt a nigger riged steel rim tothe wheel and call it a wintch spend some cash and by a reell eltric or hydro wintch so not only can witnch your self out but you can wintch down a house
The wheel nuts on the Bush Winch are designed so that the stem & cap that locate the spool will break away leaving the wheel nut in place. What happens when you burn out the solenoids on electric winches??? You are stranded if you're alone on a trip.
well when the lugs brake off you aint got a witch ethier i don't no about you but i can change a solenoid on my witch in about 2 mintues and my witcnh can pull 10,000 lbs and if i double the cable that number x2 so not only can i winch my truck out but i can witch any one else out so you tell me which one is more realstict
Well, when you burn out your last solenoid, or drain your battery, then what? Nothing is foolproof, and this is a good idea. The fact you are spouting off at the mouth as you are shows you need to prove something. Go ahead and change the solenoid on your winch in two minutes and pull down houses. And try to pull out some common sense from your head without snapping the winch cable, or at least change the solenoid.
An even better idea would be for you to at least use spell check before making negative comments just to feel like a "know it all". Also, how about not using racial slurs.
I don't understand why you have to come on here and knock something just because you prefer another. This idea was used by the military, by the way. It may not be the 100% solution to 100% of problems, but neither is anything else.
The Bush winch works very well when both spools are used on both wheels. It doesn't matter whether you have a locker, LSD or Open diff, you use both spools.
Only works well if the wheel you attach it to is spinning, ie a locked diff. If you have an open diff and the other wheel has less traction your winch isn't doing anything. Cool concept none the less.
The ground anchor would be good when doing fence work when you need a solid anchor to tie off a com-a-long when tightening wire. Could have used the ground anchor when doing a lot of barbwire work ten years ago on hill sides and deep gullies.
That would be better than not having a winch at all. I wish the rope guides had a pully on the end rather than the metal loop a lot of friction and a hard bend will kill a good rope quick. Not a bad system and even if you do have a regular winch not a bad backup to carry around. Always be prepared.

blacpaj Problems that occur with electric winches are: 1\ Solenoids burn out. 2\Electric motor can burn out along with the brake and clutch. 3\ The cable can become bird nested making it in opreable. 4\ servicing an electric winch requires removing the bull bar and winch. 5\Requires a deep cycle or 2nd battery. 6\ The need for a bull bar to carry and operate the winch. 6\ Spare Parts can be difficult to source on supceded winches.
Thanks for point that out - i am familiar with winches, their operation/shortcomings. I'd sooner that than have my wheel studs ripped out plus the alignment problems faced and yet another piece of tack you invariably forget to pack part of/throw in on top of already bulky bits and pieces to rattle/squeak their way around the country. Also, many of the points you made apply to this system too. Besides, if youre driving in a place where you need a winch-chances are you need a bullbar anyway
blakpaj, watch the video and pause it when I show the nuts. look at the nut in my hand and you'll note 3 things about it.. 1\ the hex part . 2\ a shank .. 3\ the top cap.
The shank is desinged to be the weakest part of this component with it and the cap breaking away leaving the hex part of the nut intact on the stud and not break the stud itself.
There a times when The Bush Winch is not suitable to use but it is another tool for recovery. Problems with electric winches don't apply to Bush Winch
blakpaj are you in melb? if so we'll take you out on day when its a bit wet so you can see first hand how the BUsh Winch operates while you use the electric. The track I have in mind does have a river crossing before the clay section. I'm not trying to convert you just want you to understand how this system works. As has already been stated, The Bush Winch is designed for those who go out by themselves and is designed to be used on both wheels at the same time.
It does not require a locking diff. Two spools one for each wheel you are going to winch from..
Good luck to you if you get stuck by yourself and when you burn out your winch. Have a nice stay in the bog hole or will you use a hand winch.

It works ok but seriously, i would just put up with the problems of an electric winch.
The worst enemy of an electric winch is not using it.
My winch weighs 63kg... ouch.
Good on him for making it commercial and good on him for posting the video.

That would be better than not having a winch at all. I wish the rope guides had a pully on the end rather than the metal loop a lot of friction and a hard bend will kill a good rope quick. Not a bad system and even if you do have a regular winch not a bad backup to carry around. Always be prepared.
