This song was the crowd's last request at last night's The Wild Swans Manila concert. Though it wasn't granted, we all had a great time. Maybe there was some concern with the song rights with Ian Broudie. But they played "Whatever Possessed You" and that was that.
This was very reminiscent of Edwin Collins type vocals from Orange Juice.
Loved it when i heard it. I was walking down my Glasgow High Street with my walkman on. It came on i stopped dead in my tracks, an old guy bumped into me from behind, shouted sumfin at me. Didnt give a damn coz i was so wrapped up in the music and then when it was finished i headed straight into the record store and bought it haha.
It was PICC, early 90's and a promoter got all Manila's best mobiles to spin a few records each, Smilin' Harry Nolan of Power 105 was main MC, was almost 12 when I introduced Lopi of RSL, this was the first record he put on, he even wore a t-shirt from THE CARE, would have been a great nite if the promoter hadn't skipped out.
this is such a great song to set an example of my love of all things new wave and 80,s..growing up in england and going through my school years.these kind of songs bring back some emotional memories for me especially as i now live in the states..
@martymayo Do not know if you have recieved a reply to your question as I see it was posted a year ago. The singer was Paul Simpson and Ian Broudie played the guitar, they wrote it together,
This was originally a song by Care, formed by Paul Simpson (The Wild Swans) and Ian Broudie (later of The Lightning Seeds). This song was recorded around 1983, years before the version by The Lightning Seeds was recorded.
Enjoying a degree of success and/or cult status in the USA, Germany, UK, Japan, and especially the Philippines, The Wild Swans also spawned two interesting splinter projects; Care and The Lotus Eaters. As the parent outfit, The Wild Swans remained the cornerstone and historically, will probably be remembered as the most revered and influential of the three projects.
coz they are the wild swans, lol,if im not mistaken, and do correct me if m wrong, they are the care , then changed it to wild swans then to the care again.
This is the song that reminded me so much of the 80's. Incidentally, this is also the song that kept me sane when I was in the deserts of Saudi Arabia.
The Care was introduced in the Philippines by WXB 102. WXB 102 is now back online on Live 365 internet radio with the original djs. Just do a search. Better yet type in George Frederick here on YouTube and see for yourselves!
one of my all time favorit tracks that only reached 45 in the uk charts, the 12" version is just slightley longer.if you like this check out 'my boyish days'which did not chart at all but its just as good.also worth a look is a tv show version of whatever possesed you on youtube somewhere.
hey guys can u help me name this song? The chorus goes like "You know when lightning strikes, there is nothing u can do, you know when lightning strikes, all those feelings will shine through." Been searching for a while now... Thanks. New Wave Forever.
Hello torontokads, I believe you are referring to a song titled "When Lightning Strikes" sung by the group Positive Noise. A hit single way back in 1982. fyi.
This song would go so well with like a Dungeons and Dragons type of video... an ancient enchanted land with elves and wizards and heroic knights pure in heart; on which great magical weapons are bestowed in honor of their great deeds... magical weapons such as the powerful FLAMING SWORD.
Paul & Ian never got round to making a video for this one, much like they never actually got round to releasing an album before Paul went back to the Wild Swans and Ian went on to form the Lightning Seeds. Doesn;t detract from it being a fantastic track, though! :)
Ok,tnx!!for the info. They're one of the best groups ever swept in the world music scene.Shame they don't probably understand the value of making a music vid. They're just enjoying clips in the late night show, lip syncing their tracks.Bad years for bands they tend to do commercial things just to get to mainstreams.:<
I had forgotten how good this track was. Found one rather thick and heavy picture disc of this at the weekend.
