I need some feedback here- im a 15 year old golfer, and im going to buy my new set soon. Since I outgrew my old Pings, I was wondering what would be the right club for me, I need a club that is contollable , since I have problems with judging my own distance., thanks
the driver contacts on the descent?I must be missing something. If the bottom of the swing is midway between the front foot and the sternum then it's easy to position the ball for the different clubs. A short iron needs the ball positioned farther back for a descending strike and the driver needs the ball positioned off the heel for an upward strike. That's just basic fundamentals.
I am interested to know why you want the driver hit with a 1 or 2 degree angle on the way down. Trackman results demonstrate that we will spin the ball less and hit it further if we have a positive attack angle with a driver. Is there a give and take? Do you feel golfers will hit it straighter and it is OK to lose distance? Or do you feel Trackman to be incorrect? Would love to know your thoughts.
This video clears up a lot. Pre setting the arms and hips forward, moving the lower bottom forward more than the upper body and hiting down on the ball. Before now I couldnt explain why some days I hit the driver better than other days and its because I was doing the above without realizing it. When I move my upper body forward too much through the swing....it all goes bad. Thanks again
Brilliant video, thank you. They don't really cover this much in the book so this is really useful. One question; when you set your hips forward at address, if I push them as far forward as possible, I find that then in the downswing I have nowhere to push them. Would it be right to say that your not pushing your hips 'as far as possible' at address?
Thanks so much for this video! This is definitely good for beginners, I don't know about pros. I've been playing golf for a year; until I came across S&T could never get balls hit with irons in the air, then using S&T I could hit straight and about 80% consistent length, but got stuck with driver and 3,5 metals. Using this video as a guide I can finally hit them well. Now, if only i can get better with pitching and chipping :)
This is hoe to make Stack and tilt work with the driver. You still use the pendulum hip motion and more of it. Good job on adding something needed to the info for snt are you certified?
This video showed what I was missing. I can hit my iron well wth the stack and tilt but always had trouble with the driver. After seeing the video and then going to the range my problem was solved. Excellent video, thanks.
Stack and Tilt to me seems nothing more than a "Pre shot" swing. In other words, the hips are preset and have already started forward at address. Now all he needs to do is turn his shoulders while keeping his weight leaning forward. The problem I have with this method is the weight transfer in his takeaway. Where does the power come from? Unless you're an exceptionally strong golfer this might work for you, but the average golfer will have problems with adopting this method. Too much timing.
@SwingItLikeMoe couldn't disagree more, weigh transfer is the what keeps most amateurs from consistently being able to make consistent contact. You have to be pretty coordinated to sway back and sway through and meet the ball at the exact moment, most players get stuck and hip behind the ball. SandT helps with this fault, as for no power, there are plenty of PGA guys that sandt and hit it pretty far. Even Moe stayed pretty centered and preset his hip forward.
@spartanstackandtilt Your right i did read that but their more subtle about their instructions. They say to lean the hips an 1" forward but i think all that happens automatically during the S &T address once you position your hands forward near the front thigh. I find leaning the hips forward consciously consciously weakens the swing and throws off the coordination so I dont even focus on it, i just slide the hips forward during the down swing as they say in the book to get power
@Gyro911 which is fine, if you can get your hips there fast enough. There is no "wrong" way. What you mind be able to gain in power others would lose in accuracy. Keep Stackin!
Great video, thanks for making this available. I've watched what you do in your practice swing between 6:30 - 6:34 at least a dozen times to burn it into my memory. The next time you see my swing it should be much better.
It didnt look like he hit that drive to far. I got the book and i never read anything about the front hip needing to lean more forward during the address. Not sure how accurate this advise is and besides, how are you supposed to stack your weight on the left hip during the back swing when its already leaning forward. The whole concept is to tilt your spine left and point your shoulders 30 degrees down over the left hip to stack the weght there and pushing the hip left prevents that.
@Gyro911 The leftward tilt is oriented towards the golf ball when the golfer reaches the top of the backswing (not towards the target). Whether the hips are forward does not impact the golfer's ability to tilt the spine to the left (again...think towards the ball not towards the target). And the hips forward only help the weight be more forward. FYI - this drive was about 280 with a slight overdraw. Hope this helps explain a littler better!
@thegolfevolution Ok i'll try it out. I was slicing the ball with the driver often but then again Ive only been doing the S&T for a week (once on the course and the range) so i'm new at it and i didnt implement some of its down swing concepts yet i was still making consistant contact although the distance and loft was lacking at times.. I'll give pointing the hip out left a shot on the woods and long irons. WOuld this also work to add distance on the mid and short irons?
@Gyro911 the book does explain it in the "isn't the stack and tilt pattern too step for the driver". The book points out you want more weight forward which would lead to the hip leaning more forward. The whole concept is too stay forward so you can hit the ground in the same spot every time.
after comparing your video on the driver with the videos of mike bennett i think you are getting it wrong with the preset axis tilt and the wide stance. in the S&t videos they emphasize the ability to use the same swing for every club in the bag. the axis tilt only comes with the hip slide in the downswing to get the club out of the ground. not at setup. if you preset the axis tilt the centers are in the same place but the swing plane is more inside out causing more pushes if you slide more
@jtothec00 The axis tilt does happen with the downstroke hip slide, you are correct there and it is, theoretically, the same swing for all clubs. However the ball position is more forward, the ball is on a tee, and the driver is not hit with the same angle of descent as, say, a 6 iron. Because of this there is more axis tilt with the driver. This is why it is OK/necessary to set hips more forward with upper center still relatively "stacked" over it. Also note the setup change is very minimal.
THANK YOU!!!! I really enjoy watching all your videos. I was hoping you would do a piece specifically on driver and you guys don't disappoint. Thanks again.
Were is the center of the swing (head) in front or behind the ball. It is hard to see on the video!

@jtothec00 - the longer the club, the more forward pre set of the lower axis.
