The established religion "christianity" teaches you to love, not condemn and forgive your enemies. So here's how it goes. They spill a deadly disease near my home, kill my family, neighbours, even whole town. And yes - I should forgive them, love them and not even condemn them. Besides look at how many diseases God gives to people. Maybe God's love is something to be earned and He hates sinners. Anyway Bad Religion accepts these things which can proven good for mankind not blind religion's laws
This is good punkrock Greg Graffin puts a lot of emotion. All those hypocrite priests could learn from him feelings. Btw they are against established religions.
Mr. Brett seems to have the less conventional sounding lyrics, more poetic than anything at times with no clear rhyme to them. Graffin brings the tight pop. Just an opinion though. And poorly worded.
I thought this was one of the best BR cds around... I love how Greg uses his strong emotions mixed in with some of the most thought provoking set of lyrics... great stuff!
@jasonikusSA This is the album where their sound started changing from the less grungy style sound into the heavier, more refined sounds that they do today. The change of sound really impacted the fans, since most were use to the sounds of "How Could Hell Be Any Worse?" or "Against the Grain." It's a good album, even with the sound change.
If you want a real sound change, check out "Into the Unknown." Only 3,000 copies made it to record.
@joshualucas gray race is my favourite BR album and new america is one of the best aswell. I also like no substance. no albums with dont sell me short, there will be a way, the same person and in so many ways should ever be considered shit
@nazaxprime It's not a great evolution of their sound, but if you compare the sound of "How Could Hell Be Any Worse?" to their most recent album, "The Dissent of Man," you can hear how they've tweeked and sophisticated their music. Granted, it's roughly a 30 year gap between the two albums, but if you were to listen to their discography in its entirety, you'll hear the gradual, subtle changes.
@jasonikusSA this was my first album too, the first song i ever heard by them was the gray race, i love that song, oh, and into the unknown was actually made after the "death" of punk rock. when punk bands couldnt get gigs because of the fear of violent tendencies. It's more of a glam rock album, which most punkers turned to in the eighties when they couldnt pull off punk anymore. im just glad they made there comeback. greatest band on planet earth.
great tune and and definately one of the best albums ever released not only on the Epitaph label but also by Bad Religion. BR will always be in a league of there own they are the best period..... Thank u

My favourite band when I was 16-17. I skated to their songs - almost everyday. This is very melodic punk rock.

"the less grungy style sound into the heavier, more refined sounds that they do today."
A fairly sound ananlysis, and your point was made, but subtraction of superfluous information would have served you better...
As to their new sound, its all the same to me... I hear no great evolution, just a bit more work goes into production now.
Like it?
I could do without it, as evidenced by the fact that I'm still here.
Love it?
I can do with it, as evidenced by the fact that I'm still here.

Metaldrumboy13 1 year ago 8
@Metaldrumboy13 Greg Graffin can write some good lyrics, no doubt. But Brett Gurewitz A.K.A. Mr. Brett is the better writer of the two in my opinion.

@msnikish It's a different sound from some of their previous albums, so it's understandable. This album's entirely underrated, imo.
