@SinclairisCool Black people need to relax their hair, because each strand is very flat and kinky, meaning that it is tightly curled and easily broken. If a black person gets a hair brush stuck in his or her hair, it is difficult to remove without breaking some of the hairs. @SinclairisCool uncurls. When the hair dies, it is now shaped in a way that makes it only a little curly, or straight. This is why it's called relaxing hair. Relaxed hair is far easier to straighten with an iron, and much more manageable to style and take care of. The practice originated after slavery, when black people were trying to assimilate into white society. They found it difficult to do this with curly hair. Many black women still straighten their hair, but many black men do not.
@cheetah1 lol, well you have great hair for experimentation. And you look like you'd be cute but your twitcon is profile. You can never trust profile.
@cheetah1 can I just say that I would love to have your texture and be careful washing your hair everyday. You don't want to wash out the nutrients. Tru going down to 2 or 3 times a weeks.
i use the cantu shea butter hair dressing pomade before i blow dry and flat iron my hair and it makes my hair so straight, i kinda use it like a grease. i love it...i definitely need to check out the other products from cantu.
@ashleyrp2007 Speaking of flat ironing, they actually have a flat iron serum, which is made for the intense heat. Go in the description box and click the link to their website to find out more. (=

I'm White and I don't mean to sound stupid but why do black people need to relax their hair? What does that involve? And why does it need to be done?
