Every now and then a movie still comes out that is worth watching. Robert Duvall is such a terrific actor. Been in so many great movies for a lot of years.
This is probably one of the most vital messages a boy needs to learn...
Sometimes, hell alot of the time, things like honor... loyalty... respect, are distant concepts laughed at. The message here is to ignore whether or not other people abide by what they should...
All that matters is YOU do. That YOU have faith in it. That YOU set the example, be you ever so humble otherwise.
It's alot like my father used to say, "If chivalry is dead, don't bitch about it. Be the one to revive it."

I was offended by the quote the first time I heard it, but over time I realized it in light of the character--It's not that the lies are worth believing, but sometimes we have to have faith in things we can't know for sure.
I might be totally wrong (he says right before that you can very well believe in a lie), but I enjoy hearing people recognize that some things are worth fighting for.
I know it's just a script, but if every man truly lived by the ideals of "the speech", then the world would be a much better place. I have a copy of it in my office and often turn to it when for inspiration.
@bluago That's what makes this little tidbit that much better. We live in a fad-related cess pool. One person says jump, the rest of the world ask how high? It's pretty sad, but we're all apart of a giant game of follow the leader. Personaly, I believe it best to follow one's self, you'll only be around once, best to make sure you stand out rather then blend in. :)
i wanna see it but it's not at my Block Buster they have Mariah Carey's Glitter the worst movie ever made......but they dont have this one! No affence mariah i love you but stick to singing hun
If you take that speech to heart, it's NEVER too late to change. You may not be able to change as much as you might like, but you can always start. The first step is usually the biggest and hardest. Once you get going, the more you start to believe in yourself. The more you believe in yourself, the more positive momentum you can build.
