  • do you use swivels with lures?

  • Hey there, I have all the right tackle and soft plastic and i use a Shimano Catana Rod, cant remember the reel :) but i use 10 pound mono, should I be using 6 pound braid? Would it help me catch more

  • sweet vid guys gave me a few things to think about im just getting into fishing with soft plastics no luck yet though im starting to mix things up with colours etc hopefully something bites soon

  • hey guys Sweet video :) just got a simple question for you guys if you could recomend a exact for which still specifies 2-4kg? i was thinking a daiwa tierra 2-4kg line? i use a shimano tipan extreme at the moment and i lose more flatheads than i acually pull out? any help ?

  • im not good with the what type of fishing line to use for soft plastics can you please help me?

  • Ew those are so ugly! catch bass!

  • im not having any luck guys...... wats your tips for picking the right plastics (wat hav been favourites)

  • can you use tt jig heads on squidgies

  • how long does it take to get the hang of soft plastic lures?

  • can u make a vid how to use yabbie soft plastics. and what soft plastics to use for whiting. i have a jarvis walker devil dont know how heavt the line is

  • awesome vid

helped me out im a bcf member

  • Took our new Zodiac for a spin down at Georges River in Sydney, I'm using 6lb braid and 6lb Flurocarbon leader, I bought a couple 2 gram jigheads with size 2 hooks and Nuclear Chicken 3" SP, Fishing in the main section there and the bait doesn't seem to be getting anywhere near the bottom it's like it's floating, Is my jig head too light? the depth was around 8m

  • @conqueronline69 hey i fish the goeges river too, ur jighead is too light u need something much more heavier because its too deep and the current really rips through , soo i suggest something from 5 grams up to about9 grams mate :) it will get down to the bttom and then all u have to do is a few hops and there you go

  • I have no luck on soft plastics is it because of my line I have a 7kg mono line and a shimano graphite rod

  • @ak74u2 Hey ak74u2, 7kg mono is probably a bit heavy and will hinder the action of the plastic & reduce the of feel you have, you could drop back to 10lb and that should improve results. Braid has a few benefits when lure fishing. Low stretch for more control, better bite detection & hook set. It is thinner & lighter so light lures cast further & you can stay in touch better as they sink. Use a mono leader with braid. A starting point is 4lb braid 8lb leader bream, 8lb with 12lb leader flathead.

  • @bcfaustralia hey,

ive just been back from your store and my dad didnt get braided line i told him its a must but instead he got me mono 8lb line >:( will it be fine for soft plastic fishing???

  • @ak74u2 you dont use mono at all use braid

  • Hey Guys, Great video you got. I have been very successful on plastics...especially on squidgies and those flatties love them. One thing I haven't had any luck with is soft plastic prawns/shrimp, I use the two inch to try and target bream and the 3 inch for flat head......can you please tell me what is the best way to fish the shrimp lures? Thanks.

  • @chopzmasta07 Hey Chopz, I like the 2" for bream & vary my retrieve from slow tiny hops with lots of pauses to a fairly agressive lift pause lift & then fall back to the bottom, until I work out what the fish want. For flatty I use 3" and use a twitch, twitch, twitch then drop the rod & let the lure fall back to the bottom. Don't let the line go slack as the bite will often come as you let the lure drop. I fish heavy for flathead 1/4oz or 3/8oz & cover lots of area, for bream TT HWS or up to 1/8

  • @bcfaustralia Thanks for that, I can't wait to try them out this weekend.

  • @delobro96 Hey delobro96, you can use them off a wharf, key thing, fish heavy enough heads to get down to whatever depth your target species is holding at. I have also done well on them fished close to the pylons and just jigged in little hops at different depths...the pylon holds the bait which attracts the fish. Allowing the plastic to drift back under the wharf with the tide can see some solid hookups as well...buckle up though you have to get them back out!!! Cheers, Justin

  • what kind of fish is that

  • @flunker911

Dusky Flathead mate. Very common here in Australia, they are a salt water species. Fun to catch, and tasty

  • great vid, with nice n simple explanations. look foward to seeing chapter 2

  • what size sp's do u recon is best for catching some nice sized flathead lets say from 40-60cm fish

  • @BigR000 Hey BigR000, I have been catching heaps of flathead lately on the Berkley Gulp 4" Minnow in Pearl Watermelon, hopped along the bottom...other fave colours include nuclear chicken and new penny. Squidgy 70mm fish are also a cracker with gary glitter and black gold being faves. Most plastics in the 5 - 10cm, 2" - 4" and even up to 5" are ideal for flathead. Key thing is to keep that lure on or near the bottom. Hope you are finding a few fish. Cheers, Justin

  • weird lookin fish nvr seen those vefore but i live in the USA and i only fish freshwater

  • heyy mate

im a young kid and i have bought a tone of soft plastics from paddle tails, to jerk shads, i prettty much have anything u can name but i am haveing no luk catchin anythin!!!

any tips that anyone could give me would be great

    thx very much :p

  • hi bfcaustralia i have a question i have same one as u the one with the curly tail anyways i never catch anything? i reel it in they follow it but the dont bite it plz help

  • Hey All,

Heading up to Karumba next weekend chasing some barra any tips using the soft plastics?? areas or coditions that would suit the barra? Thanks everyone

  • how long does it normally take to get a hit? i have the same paddle tail as you.

  • i havnt caught on plastics so im not convinced but this Friday im off to go catch some bream on em. got any tips with retrieval?

  • @stip27

Hey stip27, probably the biggest mistake people make is to wind too fast. If you are chasing pelagics and ocean speedsters fast is good but for most species if you slow the plastic down you will get more bites and in turn fingers crossed more hook ups. The other thing with the retrieval is to vary it a bit, so if something isn't working try something different in terms of hops, pauses or just dead slow winding.

    Cheers, Justin

  • @bcfaustralia hey mate thanks this will hopefully catch me a 30cm+ bream. can you give me a description of what the take/ bites feel like.

    cheers

  • hey do u guys sell starlo stix at bcf??

    if u do how much?

  • hey mate.

ive got a fair few of those paddle tails and after watching this video i thought id give em a try and they turned out pretty successful. i caught my first fish with a soft plastics luer with those paddle taills but i didnt use burn and kill technique i just experimented and used the jerk motion and it work. thanks for the help guys

  • @suzukirider103

    Hey suzukirider103,

Well done mate the first fish on a soft plastic is often the hardest to get and then everything clicks into place. Thanks for the positive feedback and I hope you are finding a few fish. Cheers, Justin

  • Great Video guys.

What net is that the guys are using in this video?

  • Hey Jaymemorris35, the net is one of the new Wilson silicone telescopic nets. They are available in a few sizes and the silicone net is quick throught the water, better for the fish than a standard knotted mesh and much easier to get lures, tackle and fish out of. Hope you are catching a few.

    Cheers, Justin

  • Hey AussieJosh1996, thanks for the reply and stoked to hear that the vid helped you catch a few fish. The aim of this vid was to provide some lure and retrieve tips to people that hadn't managed to land a fish on that pile of plastics that we all own...so great to hear that it helped you out. May all your snags be on the barbie. Cheers Justin.

  • Thanks for this GREAT video!

Ive never caught a fish on a lure until I watched this and 2 days after ive caught 4 flattys.

Thanks heaps for the great techniques!

  • Good vid lads.....enjoyed it!

  • those plastics are really really badly rigged

  • Why do you say that? I think there rigged to perfection. Firmly attached to TT's jig heads and having to thred the hook through twice gives the shad plenty of action if fished properly. There are two methods of applying them to a jig head. Interested in your reasoning to why there badly rigged. I had a lot of success using them last snapper season in Port Phillip Bay. They put baited hooks to shame. So why do you think there badly rigged? I'm just curious...

  • you dont understand tt jig heads are great, hes just rigged them not very straight at 1:56 and 2:04. And dont flame at me online.

  • Chill out folks it's all good...don't tell the fish they were badly rigged though...we cleaned up :). I like to rig my plastics on a bit of a downward angle away from the jighead to maximise hook exposure, unless I am in snaggy country, just a personal preference but thanks for the feedback and I hope you are finding a few fish. Cheers, Justin.

  • fair enough mate, sorry for the trouble. Ah thats right i needed to comment on the video, great instructional for the new anglers using plastics for flathead! Great species to target especially when learning to use plastics! overall 5/5 stars guys!

    bent spines tight lines!

  • Only god knows what is going through your head. I sure as hell don't. I didn't flame you. Where in my post did I flame you? I asked a simple question. Sheesh!

  • i agree with sjb666, plus big w is cheaper anyway for berkley gulp soft plastics!

  • Comment removed

  • yer soft plastics are the best especially berkley gulp -- best soft plastic around

    yer and where is that??

  • Love soft plastics.Berkley gulp jerk shads are my favourite. But BCF is the worst tackle shop around. The service there is appauling.I spoke to there head office and ordered 20 packs of TT's jig heads to be sent to there braeside store because they didn't have the size I wanted and they were going to contact me when they were available to pick up and never heard from them. The guys that work there are just useless. You have to literally get in there face in the store to get some kind of assistance.

  • hi there & thank you for your comments. I am sorry to hear about any issues you have had - please feel free to contact me on (07) 3482 7831 and I can rectify this situation for you. Regards, Vic Janco - Business Mgr Fishing, BCF.

  • i also have been through this at BCF Brownsplains Qld, i asked for assistance and literally 20min later still nothing,i walked up to the front counter to again ask for some assistance, 10 min later still nothing, i gave up whent home, called down to complain as i got home, and what do you know.. no reply at all, APPAULING SERVICE!! this has happen 3 times to me and a few times to family and friends. by watching the youtube clips you'd think bcf would be a very helpful and top service.

  • yeh but ur just a dip shit. i live in brownsplains and vist that store all the time. i never have a problem there. maybe your just 1 of those annoying people that no one likes. get over it you fuckin bitch

  • good one fellas this helps alot =D
