They are both different interpretations. John Owen-Jones and Colm Wilkinson happen to be my two favourite Valjeans, but I'll always prefer Colm. Not only does he bring so much emotion into every note he sings, but he also has incredible placement. He can sing utterly powerfully whilst holding his vibrato - something I've noticed many singers can't do brilliantly.
JOJ has much more power. While Colm is the original Valjean and will always be the best in many people's hearts, he gives Valjean a vulnerable presence. Valjean should be a very powerful and strong man, and that's what Owen-Jones gives him. I say John wins the battle.

Nobody was standing. Everytime Colm sings it there's a standing ovation. Case Closed. I don't see J.O.J. on Anniversary albums either. Colm is always everybody's pick to sing on albums. In all fairness though, JOJ was really good. I could listen to a performance by him anyday but I still like Colm's voice far better. Finally, you need to compare apples to apples in these videos.
