for irobot and other closed minded people, i beat most of the corvettes and mustangs (and other cars) i autocrossed against when the car had its orig. engine, so i don't need to compensate for anything. I guess people who don't have the capacity to understand the concept of a small, LIGHT, well made car with a high displacement engine have to resort to insults! Sad. And it is fuel injected.

overall thanks for the positive comments. this is not a ford 5l this is a custom rover 4.9l conversion using some panache ford conversion parts. i felt the ford was too heavy. this all aluminum engine tranny and diff add 50 lbs ea. to nose and rear. no appreciable difference in handling but 3 times the hp.

@irobot2009able From what ive seen most of the V8 swaps add less than 200lbs total, including the beefed up diff and added bracing. So youre essentially adding the weight of a passenger for a buttload of power. Not only that but not all that weight is added to the front. Most people dont understand that the ironblock 1.8 is quite heavy, you can find 3.0L V6's that'll DROP weight over the stock engine.

not to sture up shit but for the money you put in putting the v8 in you could have turboed the stock motor and it would have been just as fast and just as reliable but all in all you might like ford's and v8's and that's why you put it in. i got nothing against it just trowing that out there. well nice miata and clean swap.

Once I get this car done I intend to beat on it, so I built the drivetrain to take it. I have a Lincoln 8.8 diff with a Torsen T2R set up by Reider Racing and the tranny is a Ford T5W with a G-Force gear set. The water pump is a short style available from D&D and I'm sure other places. I plan on using this as my general purpose open track car, autocross car, and any event that will let it in. Wiring harness is finished down to the last big firewall plug. The 6 pt. roll bar is in!

I bought the Ford kit from Panache in CA, but I only used the tranny mount and axle part of the kit. I had to fab the motor mounts and have custom headers made to fit the Rover engine. I chose it because it's so light.

@c901 How much does the Range rover motor weigh if you know. Sounds like you did some work on the motor like a larger cam +. You ever run it down the quarter mile for time. If you haven't dyno'ed it . That is one way to tell the power it makes by it's MPH & weight in the 1/4 mile. There are programs on the net that work great. Great sounding car have fun. flamejame, you dont know your engines very well do you, its a not a sohc motor its a cam in block motor, like almost all v8 motors in everything from the 50's on up in anything chevy dodge ford, anything with any raw power from the factory, and that doesnt have chrome heads, it has a chrome valve cover, damn miata owners need to learn something about power

Sorry there hasn't been an update yet. The motor had to come out and get balanced and blueprinted. Its back, and this week the headers will get modified for the steering column and a few leaks closed up. This will help the sound a lot. I should have tire smoking videos by summer! Should't be a tach reading problem as it should read off of one plug wire just like the original 4 banger did..

My guess is the idle is set high due to fresh build or some junk like that..
