  • One of the most beautiful songs that has ever been performed! Thanks for sharing!

@ B162mardiv, when you almost die, it does make you more aware of everything around you, and you are more emotional because you know that you are blessed to still be here! Hope that your health progresses in the positive direction!

  • 3 people don't have any faith in someone

  • Joe Cocker did a great version of this too -but Hiatt owns this this song in more ways than one - such simple chords, but the soul is in his voice (finally found it years ago on "Bring the Family ' CD - excellent!)

  • Wow. I almost died this year. I had a heart attack followed by an emergency quadruple bypass.

Open heart surgery turns your emotions up to full blast.

Now simple things make me cry, like a bird in the tree, deer in the back yard, and listening to this song.

  • @B162mardiv may you live a very long time and enjoy all those lovely things! That is what we are here for!

  • @B162mardiv that´s what life should be i think! may you live fully !!!!

  • I had this played in Church on my marriage as a plea to my wife. She didn't quite understood it.

  • John Hiatt is basically the ultimate songwriter. So many artists have covered his songs and turned them into timeless hits--in fact, 9 of his songs were covered for the Dear John soundtrack.

  • This guy has song writing skills and has an unmistakable amount of soul. John Hiatt is awsome.

  • Just Love This song!!!!!

  • NOWDAYS women look as beds or even worst toillets for men.they are pitiless.i ve seen many such situations ,u cant rely on someone just cause it is another kind of thinking and acting, poor some women!iy is so hard to trust people ,they always behave differently.

  • Sessions at West 54th was a great show and this segment is a prime example.

  • Love this performance!

  • This is the only song i've ever heard from John Hiatt but its incredible, deffinetely be gettin one of his albums

  • He's absolutely worth listening too, to say the least!!!

  • i love this song the best

  • I love John Hiatt, but isn't this just "Let it Be" with some different words?

  • @afpm7 You are comparing apples and oranges. Let it Be, is about trusting a higher power. Have a Little Faith in Me is about trusting people. ??????????????

  • His face at the end DOES say it all. Wonderful. When I bought my first Hiatt CD about 15 years ago I listened to it non-stop for almost a month... I love this man's spirit. Applause.

  • this is great!

  • this performance is simply amazing. What a stunner. Straight to favourites!

  • His face at the end says it all......(sigh)

  • I first heard this as the title track of Joe Cocker's 1994 solo album for Capitol. Great song, the gospel the icing on the cake. :)

  • There isn't a John Hiatt song that I don't love. Fantastic writer, great singer.

  • this song is better just piano

  • The first time I saw John Hiatt was at Ottawa Bluesfest in '99 when he opened for Booker T and the MG's.

A deluge of rain that never let up, greeted John as he took the stage. The night before, after a Winnipeg show, he was forced to take a number of medical shots to get through a bout of pneumonia.

The man could barely speak, but there he stood, alone, in the rain, with a guitar and piano and performed one of the most riveting shows I'd ever seen.

That my friends was a performance.

  • This might be one of the ten greatest songs ever...

  • I love this song .

    Briliant , thanks Countryman54 !

  • as soon as i heard this on tv-i've just fallen in love with it.

Everything about this song is unbelievable..

The lyrics are just pure genius and the instrument playing is nothing short.

The whole piece is just pure brilliance..

    <3

  • very good! bravo!

  • Wonderful song.

    Beautiful lyrics.

Great sound and quality of video.

    10 stars.

  • this song has got me through all the bad times and still sounds just as beautiful as when i first heard it, this version especially! ^"^

  • epic!

  • Beautiful romantic lyrics... Men should learn from this song... learn how to aproach the heart of someone... Thanks so much Thomas for sharing..........

  • Women should learn that every man isn't evil and women screw over guys too.

  • @buzzmeade amen

  • noone other than him should be allowed to sing this song.

  • joe cockers version is pretty good too!!!

  • you may be right. but as i wrote;-)) do not take it to seriously.

  • Staggering. What a perfect way to compement an already superb composition.

  • legendary

  • fantastic music

  • too too great.

  • if you are in a bad way listen to this song

  • still get chills everytime i listen to this...and the random tear!!

  • i know, it's awesome :)

  • This is so moving it makes me realise how blessed I am that people put their trust and faith in me!

  • other people have tired to cover this song but john and joe cokcer do it the best

  • mandy moore had guts to cover this...unbeatable song choice..but she cant hang with this john

  • John Hiatt is the most underrated, talented songwriter I can think of. I'll always cherish the time I got to talk with him and be able to tell him what his music means to me.

  • you're so right about, that. I got to met him a few weeks ago when he was in town to play with lyle lovett, guy clarke and someone else. He seemed totally unimpressed by himself and his music and almost shy that it had such an affect on folks. this is such a great song.

  • marry me, dammit! Or just be mine for the weekend!

  • Awesome, awesome, awesome. John Hiatt is a legend.

  • what a voice! i love his voice! awesome song! :*

  • one of the best American songwriters. and that voice - come on! always seemed like he'd be a great guy.

  • This one makes me cry

  • there is something magical when people can forget about distortion and synthesizers and just play music, this is what that is.

    REAL music!

  • Staggeringly good stuff!

A classic Hiatt composition, and the beautiful, understated backing gospel choir makes it all the more moving. Even brought huge smile and a shudder of gratitude from John himself. :-)

    Great post, countryman54 -- thanks!!!

  • I love this version also though not as much as the one John Hiatt did a few years earlier - just him and the piano. He's written so many good songs that have made hits for folks like Bonnie Raitt and the Neville Brothers. Many don't give John a bit of credit so glad to see some of you on this blog appreciate the song and the songwriter.

  • I love this song. I like this version a lot. I'll sometimes listen to it when I want peace. It is most excellent and I agree with most that he is brilliant and should be as famous as all the people who have covered him.

  • I read in an interview a long time ago that the version that ended up on the record (Slow Turning" was the one he did when everyone was taking a break in the studio from trying to play a band version. Classic Hiatt, heart on his sleeve, laying it out there with that amazing unvarnished voice. A true original. YOu get the pain, the pleading, the hope and strength. And then this version with the joy. What a nice surprise. Made me tear up.

  • John is one of the all time great songwriters. His voice and singing style is a bit of an aquired taste to some. Try Jo-El Sonnier's version of this song, quite good.

  • Love this song..!

    Really classic..!

  • I do love this version but I would've loved to see the choir bring even more gospel and really let go

  • Great songwriter, great singer. I have to admit I got goose bumps when the choir chimed in. Thanks for posting.

  • John Hiatt is a great song witer, composer and musician. I saw him back up Jackson Brown and Hiatt's group really rocked! I really liked this video.

  • 好聽~~~真是令人感動的聲音~~~聽過許多翻唱的人唱這首歌~~~都沒有他唱的棒~~~John Hiatt I Love You

  • This is a great song!!! He is singing it beautifully!!! Thoes who dont think so dont know what singing is!

  • I agree! This is truly great! Thank you..such a bad day...such a good song.

  • I'M glad you're him too, cause you obviously don't know what good singing is.

  • I Love this Version, It Takes You somewhere, Other Than Where you Are! If That Makes any sense To You? Anyway I Just Love Where He Brings You On This song!

  • his voice kind of reminds me of cat stevens i really love jons music walk on is the greatest

  • This song is beautiful. Makes you think!

  • oh god he can't sing. how sad!

  • What are you talking about? He sings from the heart - it's fantastic.

  • if you call that a bad performance because he sings a little out of tune, you don't have a clue about true art.

  • No, he can't sing. That's why I LOVE to hear him sing all the time. It's probably also the reason why millions of people LOVE John Hiatt records. But no, "he can't sing". How sad indeed.

  • John can't sing? You're kidding. There is no better singer on the whole planet. It's not only that he's nice listening to, but also his tonal range is unbelievable. Try doing this yourself, and you'll know.

  • You replied to me, but I hope you understood that mine was an ironic reply to 'ALM123'.

  • this song is so inpirational. Every time I hear it is like the first time all over again and this might be the greatest of all the versions John's ever done.

  • i just want to think when this tune is on.

  • So many artists make hits from John Hiatt's songs (even Bob Dylan recorded one tune). But, it's really great to hear how this song sounds in John's heart - his truely heartfelt version...I love it.

  • I totally agree with rouwedut...that's amazing!

  • Not only a genuine singer songwriter but also one of the best songs written.

  • this is getting good

  • amazing version of an amazing song!!!!

  • it's his song you twat!!! lmao

  • i know but its a different version with gospel singer and its live you twat

  • i get goosebumps of this

  • one of the top songs ever

  • Perhaps one of the top 10 songs ever. No matter what arrangement he plays this song in, it is magic!

  • wow! this is the best version out there! thanks for posting it! i've never seen him sit at the keyboard and play it, and with just great chorus, its just so amazing! what more can i say? its a masterpiece! 5/5 for sure!

  • Entirely cool! Never seen this before so cool to see it after hearing the "original" version by him all these years. Was a great treat for me you made my day for putting it on here thanks a million!

  • omg i always thought joe cocker sang this...i LOVE this song

  • Joe Cocker sings this song too but Hiatt is the writer of this song

  • he's the master !

    (of disaster too)

  • brilliant beauty , sparkles like a diamond

  • This is great with the chorus. I've only ever heard him sit at the keyboard by himself and play it. The chorus brings a new dimension and a lot of joy to this tune.

  • wow!! when i first heard this song i pictured john to look like stevie wonder or something. hiatt really is amazing.

  • WOW! Oh to write a song half as good as this. Gives me chills. The performance is brilliant! Thanks for posting it!

  • i know what you mean it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up no bs

  • what more can i say?

    MASTERPIECE!!!!

  • John frickin rocks. great respect

  • i wouldn't say it is his best, but for sure in the top 5

  • One of America's best composer ans singers. And of course this is his best song.
