  • economics seems to prevail over human rights as the norm these days.

What occurred here deserved a much bigger response. To apply deathly force to a group of peaceful people is grotesque.

It is what America has done to the Iraqi people, but I suppose this is less evident to many because of the 9/11 package it was wrapped in.

  • I kinda slapped myself for this idea, but i guess it's best to voice it.

Those people seem to want democracy soooo....

Maybe what failed in iraq would work here?

NVM, no more ideas from me. In any case, we need to keep our eyes on Myanmar..the people need support of some kind.

BTW, i love your vids Erin. Your awesome! (and you have the first name of my sister.)

  • That's not totally nuts. Too bad they'd have to get in line and the queue is already kind of long--it wouldn't take that many well armed troops with international backing (NOT american, too hated). Monks aren't going to pick up weapons and shoot back. Period...eventually you'll run out of monks.

  • Also, thanks for the love.

  • 'Maybe what failed in iraq would work here? '

I understand that you want to help and are a good person, but its vital to understand the motivations behind war. The US gov supported Saddam as they still do the dictator in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, so its Not about democracy, the opposite is true Bremer initially prevented elections so he could steamroll laws to constitutionalize the plundering of Iraq.

  • The Neocon faction wanted to plunder Iraq and instate a Pinochet style economy, Israel(AIPAC) wanted to weaken other states in their backyard, Big Oil want to control the Oil(hold or reduce production to make sure prices are high), Military Corps want to make billions(payed by you and your children)

But since you and many americans are good they cant say that or they would loose support so they LIE (war on terror, WMD, democracy)

  • Oh no no, I hate the iraq war....i oppose president bush. But it was just a bizzare idea i had.

Yeah, we need to abandon that place...we've just turned it into a cash cow for multinational corps and a breeding ground for terrorists.

  • I think you're right but it has been generations. I made the troop comment because the soldiers have been raised by the military in many cases (taken from orphanages) and I think it might take another guy with an automatic weapon to get those people to change their actions.

  • There wont be any UN troops, the Junta is in control, the oil is being syphoned off and its too close to China and Russia for them to allow the West to interfere and replacce the Junta by a dictator of their own (like the Kuwaity or Saudi royal family). If you think they are having a hard time think of what would happen if Saudis demanded elections, the same if not worst, heck they would not even get 30 people protesting before they be shipped to torture hotel

  • I never understood the logic of sanctions. You have a dictatorship, which by definition doesn't care about the welfare of the people...and so we punish those same already oppressed people with sanctions, in the hope that the dictatorship will suddenly care and change? Anyway, what do you think we can do to stop this, short of starting another "benevolent" war?

  • what can be done, negociate with China and Myanmar Junta, offer them to control the country from behind the scene while allowing China to test theater democracy like we have in the west, the Junta controls 2 parties divided along trivial divisive issues yet negate any reference to the Junta from the debates, they control the minds of the people with a prison for the mind instead of crude old fashioned repression, thats one possibility

  • Let the Junta know that unless they comply with option 1 (fake democracy) or option 2 (less repressive dictatorship) the US and Russia agree to give China a blank check to invade and replace them with more cooperative dictators, they'll crap their pants and negociate
