you said not to be afraid to use the free transform tool to alter you drawing as you go. I have a question. On 1:15 into your video you show a grid over you drawing with individual scalable boxes. How do you do that?
@chidragon60 Sometimes I do it because it helps overcome the mind's natural tendency to make sense of what we're looking at. When I draw something, I might have observed it slightly inaccurately but instead of seeing the mistake, it's like I know what I was trying to draw so I don't see anything wrong at all. By flipping the canvas it sometimes forces me to re-observe and I'll often notice where I made mistakes. Other times I just like working from a fresh angle on it.
I'm mostly interested in what brush is used in the under-drawing. Some people prefer round brush with pressure set for opacity whereas others like pressure for size.
@Fungorrr I personally almost always have opacity controlled by pen pressure for my brushes, but it's totally your choice as the artist. It's good to try all sorts of brushes, because each one has a unique effect and texture. For the under-drawing I used my "pencil" brush which is a thin round brush with pressure on both opacity and size. For blocking in the painting I used a round textured brush with pressure on opacity.
I really wan to be able to do speed painting, i just graduated for being an illustrator but the only thing i can really do that is nice is do a numeric painting by having a picture and recopying every colour, id really like to be able to speed paint
@meeena97 Sometimes I like the challenging mindset of knowing my brushstrokes are individually meaningful and important, so I do everything on one layer. And sometimes I'm very careful that my results are as fast and accurate as possible (like drawing a portrait for someone as a gift), so I pull out all the low, dirty cheats in my book (for example, tracing parts of the reference photo). Using layers isn't a dirty cheat by any means, but it's totally up to you what you want to do.
@OmniMinorScrape -next the the other tone lightly to blend them? that was my main confussion? please get back to me and please make some more videos :D im sooo subscribing cheers dude or lass x
@sausage285 You're exactly right- after I block my colors in, I ALT pick the colors and brush softly over it with custom brushes that look like real paint brush strokes. Opacity controlled by tablet pen pressure is one of the most essential brush settings for my style of painting.
@OmniMinorScrape wow what can i say??...... wow lol i thought that was amazing and i thought its abit yellow and orange but then did you change the saturation or someong at the end cuz it looked amazing before but now fucking amazing..im new to digital painting but ive called myself an artist scince i was 9 and i can get to grips with this digital painting i was very confuused and thought that people blended the skin tones with smudge but do you do it by ALT pick colour and go softly over it?

@OmniMinorScrape do you do the eyes, mouth, nose as the same layer as the skin? :)
