  • LOL! Thank you! I have never heard this one before! Keifer Sutherland, Sting, Billy Idol, Rutger Hauer I have heard! I wish I could play football like Boomer did!

  • Wow... Amazing. Im also a big fan of Gadd, i have been through his book "steve gadd up close" and it was great.

It would be great if you could make a video explaining what you were doing.

  • Great, really enjoyed it so see such a talented drummer ;-)

i can't really figure out exactly what you are playing

can you write down the sticking?

  • Hey Mike - we've talked on the DW forums...great video! Have you transcribed this? It'd be nice to try out.

  • finally someone who knows about drums and is not just a travis barker wannabe

    yeah dude keep it real

  • What kind of technique do you use with your hands? Looks very open with the index finger a la Moeller. Just wondering!

  • Yes, I am using the Moeller technique on this. I had a lesson with Jim Chapin and then really worked on this technique.

  • Very cool! Chapin is one of the best educators ever!

  • wow inpressive! can u explain in lay-man's terms the patterns your playing there? especially the one on the snare.

  • The pattern on the snare is just a check pattern and the video is a little jumpy as well. I will see what I can do for you as to getting the pattern in layman's terms. The bass drum is on the quarter notes and the hi hats are on the eighth notes. The sixtuplets in the hands are broken in to groupings of three against two - a common grouping but the the fact that they are triplets kind of makes it difficult.

  • are you endorsed by DW?

  • No....But I don't need an endordement from DW to tell you how much I enjoy play their drums! I paid for everything that I own of theirs. I worked extremely hard to get these.

  • Nice good job.

  • Doc Martens boots! I generally like these for playing the drums. I like the fact that you can see my socks too. I worked on this because this is the fill Steve Gadd has mastered and I really hadn't worked at it but the was a good way to begin to feel the pattern through the time.

  • Cool vids, dude. Is Gadd's drum lick a 4 stroke roll around the drums, Mike? Thanx!

  • It has at least two mutations; one is four stroke ruff played three against four as in this video. Another which you can hear going into the chorus on the Separate Ways video, is a group of six notes against four and incorporates two bass drum notes after the hands play the four stroke ruff.

    Thaks for you question!

  • Heavy shoes, huh?

  • They aren't too bad. I actually prefer these. I hate using my tux shoes on the formal gigs.

  • Awesome!!

  • Thank you - this was just an exercise to get me thinking about how to play this better as I had seen another drummer play it and I developed this exercise to work it out.
