  • Great summary of the many different cultural influences upon our modern Winter celebrations.

  • I might have missed it but why 3 candles?

  • a beautiful video, we love Yule, celebrate all the beauty of nature and the return of the Sun! Thank you for this :)

  • This video is great thank you!

  • @Geddren13 Thank you :D xxxx Hugs and love xxx

  • Refreshing to see the true origins for a change !

    xxx

  • Thank you so much for this wonderful video that brings so much truth here. Let us all value, nuture, protect and love and teach and pass on all wisdom and beautiful things in nature to eachother and to our children. Gaia.

  • @GAIASDREAMER Blessings and love, sweet Gaia xxxx Thank you for watching and commenting xxxx

  • true it started out pagan, then Christian, now it's secular. I think it's not so important what something was, as much as what it is, though I don't suppose it's much better than pagan now with all the commercialism xD

  • @4dojo Well it gives deity correspondences so i hardly think that it is Christian lol

  • loved the video so sick of christgan people claiming every holiday when its ORIGINALLY pagan...! But if someone is "set" on somthing it doesen't matter what you do you can't change their minds they think they are the ONLY ones that can possibly be right. THIS video unlike all the christgan videos isnt abput converting im sure its about educateding because people seem to :assume that because someone dosent follow god they must be a devil worshiper when in fact we dont.

  • beautiful!!!

  • Very nice video. In times of olde, God/s were respected and known as different cultural representatives of cultural ideas and aspects. Political religion, which came much later and is in power today created the divisions and the greed, wars and hatred for the sake of political rule. It would be wise for us to see the similarities, the origins and find Unity in the religions again...regardless of which cultural path and description we choose to follow. Be well!

  • @TheEidolon7 I completely agree with you about the similarities in religions.

  • Then saith HE (CHRIST) unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. or better read Ezikiel 8:15. Thank you.

  • What a beautiful video! Thankyou for something unpreachy that I can share!

  • @baladilady thank you!!! and thank you so much for watching!!! hugs and love! xxx

  • @baladilady This video is preachy. It preaches paganism, just in a quiet way. But it's so effective, I think I'll abandon Jesus Christ now. After all, who cares about a personal Savior that came to Earth to bring me Salvation, when I have all these neat mythical gods to play with? Ahh yes...the beauty and peace of the ancient Romans, Norsemen, Egyptians, Babylonians. They were such docile, merciful, benevolent civilizations.

  • @1977dwk It is in no way preachy...it states FACTS and it is a shame that because of your ego you cannot see the truth. The truth shall set you free. And if you truly knew Christ, and could step our of your ego, you would find him deep within this video...I wish for you wisdom

  • @Helenhealer First of all, I apologize for my cynicism. That wasn't right of me. Secondly, I'm not arguing facts. Christmas has pagan roots, and you "preach" that in this video, in hopes to convert people to your beliefs (you even "wish" for my wisdom.) Thirdly, if YOU know Christ, you shouldn't judge me to be egotistical based on one impassioned remark. But forgive me if I offended you. Now whether Christ can be found "deep within a video" of any sort, I'm not so sure.

  • @1977dwk I forgive u,but you are trying to impose YOUR judgments of what I am trying to do with this video by replying to anothers comment on this vid.U took it upon urself 2 tell people what YOU think I am trying to do with this vid.People from all religions have watched this video,Xtians,Hindu's Pagans etc and none have said that I am trying to convert people to my beliefs.U discuss wisdom yet you show lack of knowledge and insight if you cannot find the Christ in the gods B4 Jesus.

  • @Helenhealer This was my interpretation your motives. The word "preach" comes from the Latin "to proclaim (in public)." Your video is a public endorsement of pagan ideals, is it not? You keep telling me that I lack wisdom and knowledge (a judgement in itself), and wish for me to find Christ in the "gods." That is your own way of proselytizing, isn't it? However, if your video was only mean to be an aesthetic historical look at the roots of paganism in Christmas, then so be it.

  • @1977dwk If I was preaching I would b telling people what they should believe or what I think they should believe.I am doing neither.I am sharing my finds during my own research regarding the winter solstice etc and it is up to people what they choose to believe.my main advice to anyone is, "Don't believe everything I say...research it for yourself." I put information out there.it's up to the individual to take from it what they wish.only you,for some insane reason, feels i am preaching

  • @Helenhealer Well said - in fact many Christian groups in history have not celebrated Christmas because they were aware of the pagan, non-Hebrew origins of the festivities...for me personally I honour my ancestors and celebrate Yule not the foreign Christian festivals but each to their own...peace to all.

  • @1977dwk Just because you might favor "Jesus" does not mean there are not other cultures teaching similar principles using a different mythos or "language". Don't be a bigot. Pagan teachings are going to be Pagan, and Paul's or Constantines' Christianity is going to reflect their take on "The Way". But the story is very old and has been told many ways. Open your Heart and Mind.

  • @TheEidolon7 Not sure why I'm a bigot. Whom was I offending by my original comment? Visi-Goths that no longer exist? I suppose I can see that I was coming across as intolerant, but I didn't intend to attack your personal beliefs...but in retrospect I guess that's what I did. I'm open for peaceful discussion. You make a good point concerning the different mythos. But "Open your Heart and Mind?" Isn't that a New Age cliche? You should stick with the substantive observations! ;)

  • @1977dwk At least you attempt to be creative. Be well.

  • @1977dwk why do you assum that all pagans are "goth''? Pagans come from a wide range of background...from doctors, laywers and techers to shrinks and the unemployed JUST like other relgions we have a wide rang of pagans we dont all wear black and listen to depressing music...thats pretty wrong to bunch us up like that...do you see us saying oh all chrisigans must carry their bible around and dress like a geek? no we dont because we DO NOT JUDGE!!!! unlike your relgion seems to!

  • @wiccanme82 If you look closely at my comments, I was not referring to the modern "Goth" culture. Rather, I was referring to a 5th century Germanic peoples. Also, NOWHERE in my comments have I attacked the modern Goth culture, or stereotyped your clothes or music. Believe it or not, I have goth friends, and have myself enjoyed elements of goth culture. But don't say you don't judge, because every human judges at some point in their lives. It's a human behavior trait.

  • @TheEidolon7 Not sure why I’m a bigot. It’s hard to offend Visi-Goths that no longer exist. But I suppose I was showing intolerance towards people committed to paganism. Look, I’m open to peaceful discussion. I’ve been pegged as bigoted because of my one impassioned comment. Your insight about the different mythos is well taken. However…”Open your Heart and Mind?” Isn’t that kind of a New Age cliché? You seem very intelligent…you should stick to the substantive observations! ;)

  • @1977dwk you are obviously a well read and intelligent person. just think for a moment, if you can step outside of your ego and everything that you think you know, that maybe there is something you have missed or might be missing.it is good to be passionate about your beliefs, but dont allow them to imprison you in only one way of thinking

  • @TheEidolon7 well said! and this is the mystery which cannot be seen unless people step out of the box and really SEARCH for the truth which is not taught in schools or churches etc but which need to be explored by those who dont belong to a particular religion or belief system

  • @Helenhealer Jesus' words: "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no one come to the Father but by me" (John 14:6). What if Christ is the Ultimate Fulfillment of all we humans desire (and need) spiritually? As in Colossians 1:17: "He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." We often speak of "pre-Christian" gods, but Jesus said "Before Abraham was born, I am." (John 8:58). What if Jesus was around before all other "gods?" What if He is the "God of gods?"

  • @1977dwk What is Jesus is fake. I love how you Christians disavow all other Gods but completely ignore the obvious. Jesus was a fake like all the rest. In fact, it was from all the rest that his information was borrowed so that he could be manufactured. Mithras or Mithrainians were around up to, and died off about 100 years before your so-called Jesus. Same birth, same birthday, same death. Jesus, if he lived, was just a man, and not a deity. Get over the lies of the bible!

  • @1977dwk

My religion says there are no divinely revealed facts straight from the mouth of God that represent the "one true faith."

My religion does not ask people to believe blindly and without scientific evidence in supernatural "saviors," "prophets" or "avatars" of a particular ethnicity or culture.

My religion objects to so-called holy texts full of violence, brutality and cruelty.

    /freethoughtnation. com/contributing-writers/63-acharya-s/614-please-respect-my-religion. html

  • @1977dwk He/She was not the god of gods;he was an Aeon that was created by the other gods.He was the god that incarnated into matter as a sacrifice to stop the world being destroyed & he,as when he incarnated he is a he,has done it many times for the same reasons.Go back to Sumer, ancient Iraq.Jesus was a representation of the LOGOS,the male direction, the WAY,yet he was not here alone,he was here with WISDOM yet the Roman Catholic church tried to promote LOGOS without his WISDOM

  • @1977dwk yet what you are saying here has nothing to do with what is written in this video.this video is neutral

  • I presume 1977dwk thinks he is being sarcastic: "the beauty and peace of the ancient Romans, Norsemen, Egyptians, Babylonians. They were such docile, merciful, benevolent civilizations." but hey, compared to the Christian civilization not far off.

  • @TulilaSalome Yes, The Crusades, the Inquisition, the war against Native America, etc. But consider Jesus' own words. Matthew 24:4 "Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ, and will deceive many."Matthew 7:15: "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves." Many societies have proclaimed Christ outwardly, while inwardly were out for their own gain. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. ;)

  • Beautiful, thank you for this amazing video. :-)

  • @TheGardenofRoses You are so welcome :D Thank you for watching xxx

  • Finally a factual description of what the holiday season is about. The Christian religion does not realize that they where the one's who took the symbolism from many and made it there own ! Ignorance is dangerous, it isn't the followers fault as they are taught not to question or research or you are against God and will go to hell or the devil is in you, so sad how many have been manipulated right out of a wonderful birth right!

  • @lrwinley this is so true, unfortunately! 93% of the world are so brainwashed by the christian religion it makes me so mad!

  • @JuneYankee I couldn't agree with you more.

  • @lrwinley It actually becomes a pretty interesting story when we go back to the roots and follow the progression of ideas and rituals through time and cultures. I hope we can all learn to see the similarities in culture and let each one follow their own path to the Divine, or let the atheist be an atheist if they choose. Why is this so hard?

  • @lrwinley How can a religion "realize?" Also, I have met many Christians who are very comfortable with questioning and research. Hey, that's why I'm here. The book of Job in the bible is full of questions and doubts! If one is comfortable with the grace of one's God, then question away! ;)

  • And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH

  • @Hvordanhardudet100 Who is the Catholic Church. Thank you for your input

  • @Hvordanhardudet100 And Lo or Lou whichever, I replieth verily there will come a time when people will maketheth silly comments unto others and useth archaic speech to attempt to maketh feareth where there was noneth before...verily this doth only make thou seem like an almighty twat worthy of giggles...

  • Fantastic video!!! I must have incarnated myself to slowly figure out that I'm pagan by being born to a Swedish family here in the U.S. "Christmas" in Swedish is "Jul"...promounced "Yule". They dance around the christmas tree holding hands...much pagan left to this day. Lucia...a goddess with lights on the darkest day of the year...ditto. We make saffron bread...noticed saffron in your video. Life is so wonderful and funny!!! Love you, Helen! Blessed Yule (and Jul)!!! :-)

  • @Trala52 that sounds WONDERFUL!!! do you celebrate it that way, too? xxxx

  • @Helenhealer - Not at home, but me and my family often to go Swedish Christmas Fairs where this goes on . I DO make the saffron rolls, though. :-) I had my daughter dress up as a Lucia to visit my mom when she was living in a nursing home on St. Lucia day, and since our poor tree gets jammed in a corner, there's not enough room to dance around it in the house! LOL!!!

  • @Trala52 how lovely!!! thanks so much for sharing this with me!!! its so nice to draw on our cultures

  • @ClaireLovesWicca Thanks Claire xxx I hope you have a gorgeous time Celebrating Winter! Blessings and love xxxx

  • @redsunflower67 plus my video tries to incorporate the diff festivals celebrated during the winter, not just Yule

  • @redsunflower67 No no, there are sun gods, but not in Germanic paganism - and Yule is a festival of Germanic paganism. Sorry for the confusion. :)

  • @redsunflower67 Blessings xxx Well she is right regarding the length of Yule etc the video i created is to try and give tid bits regarding many winter celebrations. in many ancient cultures there was a belief of the sun god being reborn.
