woop woop so excited to go to uni to get my medical degree :D then off in the RAF as a medic woop woop :) cant waitt :D im not scared of blood and gutss at all :) and im such a natural person to deal with those sort of situations :D im only 16 now but yeahh cant wait to join raf in 2 years :D hehe
It has always been an issue with no provision of reciprocity or follow-on updated training to combat medics and corpsmen. When the MAST helos began in the Seventies there were people dying because the (then) 91b's couldn't perform beyond the level of a basic EMT.
to all the wannabe medics. Get your college while your in cause you will not practice the same level of medicine when you leave service. trust me, I just left and civilain world does not respect our training at all.
@Armyof92 And me! my family, friends and a whole lot of us back here are right here waiting for you guys to come home safe. I know what it's like being there, and true, things and people back here aren't the same. But you need to know there are a whole bunch of us who didn't change a damn bit in regard to our respect and admiration for you guys....Be safe, God bless and be with you all.
@therealdeal989 i understand where ur coming from, im a male nurse joining the british QARANC. on my course there were combat medics who could served in afghan/iraq who have seen more trauma, did more hands on skills then surgeons themselves yet they found themselves un-qualified! some were even jobless. unfair
@therealdeal989 its not that they dont respect it, its not credited, you get your national registry emt-BASIC throught AIT and advanced trauma and IV training, so in the civilian world, you can not function as you would with armed forces. basically all you can use when you get out is the emt-b training. im looking into the army combat medic right now
i am currently a career+volunteer emt/firefighter with 5 yrs, 2 yrs as a emt in maryland, and know MANY military medics, mainly air force and army, many of which volunteer on the ambulance as a national registry emt-b which they got from their military training. big difference from not respecting and not recognising
@therealdeal989 the government doesnt respect military service(wo)men until it's there own blood on the field. god bless all military and post-military personal!!
@kristengermano nice I second that. Im leaving in about a year, cause I want to get some EMT classes at my college first, before I enlist in the Army National Guard as a 68W. Then I'm gonna go in and try to use my skills to save as many as many people as possible. The combat medic is a really noble MOS in the military, I wish you luck kristen ;).
Combat medics are heroes for the working day. In Vietnam, I have been told, they performed heroics on a daily basis, day after day; they had to perform their duty under enemy fire most of the time. Many young GIs and other Allied soldiers wounded in Vietnam owe their lives to the unfailing courage and skill of the US Army medics, many of whom were draftees and many of whom were killed in action.
I forced myself to watch this so I'd have a better understanding of a hero I've just started writing to -- a combat medic. Difficult to watch? Yes, but he's living it. Blessings to all medics and troops wherever you are.
@jodato0626 Thank you for what you are doing for us. I am hoping to be a Combat medic as well, when I reach 20, beecause at 18 I am going to start doing physical training for two years, or until I can do the PT before I even join for the automatic rank you can recieve.

@3cheers4Ger I don't have a problem with advercity in the military, as long as everybody can do their job and meet the same physical requirements.

@17SPFD yes, all types of medics were collapsed into one field, the 68w.
