  • if only everyone else new the benefits of the speed suit

  • Pour mewing deserved 2nd for giving it a bash to stay with thorpe

  • no way! thorpe is one of the most biggest talents in swimming!

but his suit was also great in the water ;)...love that one..

  • I am a strong supporter of freedom of speech, but honestly: Boxy, your comments are hard to stand from an intellectual perspective...

  • son of a fish......

  • Thorpedo! :)

  • Son of a fish......

  • why no sound after the first 2 minutes?

  • Why were the suits that phelps wore banned?

  • @GALAHINA Google it, its an interesting read. The suits give swimmers more buoyancy and speed so FINA banned them because a number of world records were broken by others apart from Phelps.

  • Did he have an 8 beat kick?

  • ian thorpe is simply the best freestyler ever... forget phelps, forget biederman and watch thorpe...

  • @bernapt95

Not if Alexander Popov has anything to say about that.I respected Thorpe until his alleged doping violation found in France. It must be huge coincidence that ban for doping in swimming is 5 years, exactly how much Thorpe was in "retirement"and is planning a comeback.I also think that it was all hosed down due to his contracts with Adidas,Speedo and his popularity/fame in this sport.

  • @BoxyTheSpaceDog i' m french and all i can say is that french newspapaper l' équipe which told 4 years ago that ian thorpe took drug is a piece of shit. This newspaper told a lot of lies about a lot of sportmen .Pure lies,Thorpe has NEVER taken drugs.Honestly i think he retired at 24 because he was fed up with swimming and with his fame,he was so popular in Australia and it was difficult for him to have a normal life.

  • @tonibfan

See I don't believe in any sportsman fining sport boring at the peak of it's career! He also had numerous sponsor contracts,he was involved in few personal businesses of his own,not to mention that he had at least 4 years under him to compete.I have never seen someone so abruptly leaving the sport scene as he did.Haven't you noticed the weight he gained after "retirement"?See that usually happens if you get your body used on prohibited substances and than you stop. You are still baby...

  • @BoxyTheSpaceDog i' m not a baby ,you can think what you want but he got fat after his retirement because he stopped swimming suddenly,it' s the same thing for a lot of swimmers ,for exemple Grant Hacket who got fat too after his retirement. Moreover,Ian thorpe didn't stop his swimming career at his peak,he struggled in 2006 to win his races because he stop training after athens 2004 to focus on personal business. You don't even know of what you' re talking about

  • @tonibfan

Just be sheeple and believe everything they feed you.

  • @BoxyTheSpaceDog i 'd like to believe that Thorpe took drug if there were proof but where are the proof, there are no proofs .It' s easy to accuse someone of doping but it' s difficult to have proof. If you want to believe he took drug i don' t care but when you say"just be sheeple" it's ironical because you believe what a stupid newspaper said WITHOUT proof.Anyway your opinion is not important because i' m sure Ian Thorpe knows what he has done and what he hasn' t done.He knows he 's not a cheat

  • phelps swam 142 in the "banned" suits thorpe went a 144 u dont have to be an expert swimmer to see who was better in this event.....

  • Thorpe is back! :)

  • swimming would help you grow taller ?

  • @TheLeilisa yes cause it streches out your spine and twists it, its great for getting taller

  • @michaelnguyen2611 thank you. there is this product " helpo growth formula" it so far works for me . I need a couple of inches more.

  • i was in the 200m freestyle for my school and got 2:34:14 when my goggle partly came off... i hate when that happens xD

  • @ordude123

    your shit

    im six and i do a 1.55.05

  • @kidsofjokes i hope u mean ur 6 foot

  • But is Phelps really clean .... i have my doubts

  • He is look so fucking flawless!!!!

  • @rbonilla18 thorpe is the best because he became world champion at 15,nobody did that in sport history not even phelps.phelps won more olympic medals because thorpe retired at only 24.

  • @JENNY82ist1

    i love thorpe

but thorpe would never ever get near phelps in the gold medal tally.

  • @kidsofjokes phelps would have probably lost to ian in the 2008 Olympics in the 2008 free

  • @moni0071000

thorpe never went past 1.44 in his prime

phelps went 1.43 in a non polyutherane suit

he then went 1.42 in beijing

  • @kidsofjokes ya i know that but if Thorpe was with him in the pool same heat he would keep pace then beat Phelps

  • @kidsofjokes yup. phelps went a 1:43.86 at the 2007 world championships in melbourne with a FSII fastskin (a non tech suit, it came out in '03 or '04)....Thorpe wore a full body adidas suit. theyre pretty much the same advantage. the real question is whether thorpe would have been able to chase down phelps in the last 50m if they went head to head in their primes. Thorpe MOWED down van den hoogenband at the 2001 worlds in the 200m free when he went 1:44.06. could he have done the same to phelps?

  • @JENNY82ist1 thorpe retired at 21 didnt he?

  • @DarthMuse : 24, actually; it was in November 2006, and he was born in October, 1982.

  • ian never took drug .he was so talented and he is an honest person.ian has always been against drug .ian is and will stay the best swimmer ever

  • @JENNY82ist1 Maybe in australia. Phelp is the best with more medal wins.

  • i read about a test where he seemed that he used hcg as performance enhancement

  • beast!!

  • best comment ever

  • i do not agee that hands need to be cupped. There is argument both ways. One theory is that slightly open hands create a larger surface area because the flow arould the fingers create some resistance and is greater than that from a closed hand with less surface area. It is also more relaxed.

  • He look so relaxed, no problem at all! he moves the water so flawless! how he did this? I think he has advantage over his massive feet size

  • all the things add up, the years of training, the genetics, the mental strength

  • not necessarily, its better to keep your hands relaxed and form a webbing (as demonstrated by Ian) rather than cupping them.

  • That's what I meant. I was talking about his fingers being seperated.

  • Thorpe for ever is legend.! the best of the swinming.! thorpe.! and gran hackett

  • thorpe seems to be not only an excellent sweemer, he seems to be an excellent person.

  • he's great!

  • What an Humble young man :)

He focuses on beating his own times instead of focusing on beating Others; brings a hell of a difference in one's attitude..

  • Haha yet...Beating others? Im pretty sure he had absolutely no difficulty with that=). But i understand your point.

  • Where was Phelps for this 200M Free then ??

And for the 100m Free in Athens ?

  • <3 thorpe the best!!!

  • you sound lovely

  • I seem to remember a moment in the last World Cup that.. hmm... seems to make you a hypocrite.. would i be right?

  • not at all, you would be the hypocrite 'cos the moment you talk about in last World Cup

was due to a game's rule , not my fault if you australians pretend to change the game's rules by your own because you don't know them exactly like you know nothing of the football sport .

Seems to me that you're the typical anglosaxon double-faced hypocrite , I talk of true facts . lol

  • sorry this is late.. im only getting around to checking my replied comments on this now. im not claiming to know everything about football. Which is understandable seeing as we haven't been playing it for the long amount of time you guys have. But the fact is, you commented very rudely on a video with Ian Thorpe who has never taken drugs. You have also declared to hate all Australians. I recommend you take a look at yourself. I have some great Italian friends and love Italy. Get over yourself

  • I swim loads like him xx LOL xx

    he brilliant !! :)

  • oww~ian thorpe..i miss him!its too early to quit..wuteva hppens i wud still supporting him n respect him as a great swimma..

  • very technic, as they say....very good...

  • mann, thorpe look'd as if he were swimming by his self... everyone else was standing still.

  • yeah.......i bet the american s are very clean?.......as i said once before, every athlete who performs and not from the US, will be called as dopers. Not trying to deny anyhing...but i guess its a fair game....nobody's clean....

  • I rekkon he feared that Phelps would beat him in Melbourne at World Champs, therefore sort of losing his greatness and "dissapointing" Australia. I think he could have beaten Phelps, because when Thorpe set the World Record in 2001, he had nobody to race against, and we all know in a head to head battle Thorpe always comes out on top. But anyway, thats just what i think.

  • why did he retire? :-( he will be missed in bejing next year!

  • he had to cos he has a condition wif his lungs

  • I love him, but he quit too early!

  • hes not even puffing! lol god hes good.....

  • thorpe pretty much controlled the whole race.

  • Yes

  • did he retire?

  • yeah "THORPEDO, THE LEGEND"

  • hes a legend that guy

  • its ashame that he retired. he will be missed sorely in the 08' games.

  • Thanks for posting.

  • Ian Thorpe Is My Idol.... He He

  • he did it sooo relaxe... he could have done it better and kick really ass but i think he was really playing it cool... to not look so high in front of the others!! i love him!

  • so great, even though he can do it better
