and dad HATES his son's music. hates it. i'm not sure he'd even share the stage with him. robert can be found telling journalist that his son doesn't even make 'music'.
i'll look for it. the clip i saw a few years back. i'm sure if you look around on the internet long enough you can find the interview(s). i know he said it more than once. when the 1st wallflowers album came out, i hated the songs that played on the radio & then i heard what his dad said & i agreed to some extent.
this new stuff isn't bad. Bob was really insulted that he became popular cuz of the family name & said something about how he didn't make music & had bad lyrics.
it could be that the interviews or video has been policed and suppressed by Jakob's record label or publicist. look for it. i saw/heard this with my own eyes and ears. it may have been an MTV interview. if you've ever watched the film 'Don't Look Back' you can see Bob's personality. Sometimes He can be a real asshole to fellow musicians.
You can imagine how critical he is about his son making disposable, flavor of the month pop/rock with not-so-thoughtful lyrics. seriously.
@satinhooks ...I can also imagine that Dylan no longer recognises himself in the 1965 Bob Dylan, and that his unconditional love for his son would probably mean he doesn't talk about that stuff in public....still waiting for the link to that clip though.
@satinhooks the first Wallflowers album is actually amazing. No disposable, flavor of the month pop/rock to speak of. Maybe you're thinking about BDTH, their second album with all the singles, and even then, I'd dispute your judgment of it. There's actually a lot good (lyrics AND music) if you listen carefully.
Completely agree that Bob can be a real asshole to fellow musicians. Jake's PR team probably got rid of the vid. They're great at that. His personal/family life/past info is well hidden.
Don't like to say it but Jakob is getting more like his dad everytime i see or hear him and even in his looks BUT no bad thing there. The lad is his own person though and never let's his more famous dad stand in his way and nor would he either---------Jakob is great in his own right----well done son!
You dont pick who your parents are.. I think hes a good songwriter/singer and his new solo stuff is the best hes done in years.. The only thing I would ask him about his dad would be.. What do you buy Bob Dylan for Fathers Day?
I'm glad that Jakob doesn't talk about his father. I mean Bob is the greatest ever to me but, Jakob is not letting that get in the way of where he wants to go. =)
Hey MountainRivera; the sixties changed the consciousness of the planet. Dude; you wouldn't even be you without that era. You sprang forth from the soil that others plowed. BTW, "follow the mass of non-conformist old hippies" is a contradictory statement, and, like you, makes litte sense. - But I agree with you on this point: every artist must articulate his peculiar era, if he can. Jakob stands on his own, free of the compulsion to replicate, emulate, or disintegrate, his father.

wow mountariver its obvious hes there because of his dad. anyone that really knows bob dylan can tell how much jakob is trying to be like his dad.
and those old hippies were the one hope of this country and the romanticism of the sixties is not overrated. in fact its underrated and will live on forever.
Bob appeared at Newport in 63, that 's 45!!!! years ago. Jakob can't happen to appear at the same venue a half-century later and you make that comparison??? You have to rank him against his father?? Cop out. Your reaction is knee-jerk which is evidence of your 'follow the mass of non-conformist old-hippies' mentality which permeates your crowd. Can't we just move on and declare the romance of the 60's done and overrated??
the wisdom of dylan never stops

@satinhooks. I don't care if Bob likes it. He's written some decent songs. What impossibly high benchmark have you ever lived up to?

@satinhooks, They did play together once. Some company-sponsored performance (a huge company.)
Bob may be the better lyricist, but I think Jakob has a better voice and is a better composer/musician.

i'll agree that he has a better voice than pops. He's still got time to develop more. I hope he never stops making music.
