  • Americans, placing enourmous engines where they don't belong, since 1923.

  • This is fabulous! History big time!

  • play it at 240 p and the sound is good

  • quality on 240 p and you'll hear sound on both channels

  • Richtiges Qualitätshandwerk...

  • Don't ever put that in salt water!

  • stupid time and space seperating me from sweet sweet war surplus...

  • the fact that your video only makes sound on one side is much more interesting than your video

  • lol Just play in on 240p guys.

  • it runs fine on 240

  • both my speakers work :D

  • only sound on left channel

  • @Dualshock21 I dunno, I give up on this. the original file is mono but plays on both speakers. the video plays on both speakers for me on whatever pc I watch it on, but I havent tried mac, and I dont use Internet Explorer, only Firefox or Chrome or opera. For me it plays more evenly on 240p, so try that? its an old recording, on an old camcorder, so ??

  • @Dualshock21 That´s right

  • only audio on left channel?

  • @lassetk Hi, I dunno, I am giving up trying to figure this out. For me it plays fine on both speakers whatever PC I watch it on. You may have better results playing on 240p ? It is a mono file, but the orgiginal file plays on both channels on my PC, and the YouTube vid plays on both channels on every computer I have ever watched this on. I use Firefox, Chrome or Opera, not MSIE, so I dunno if that matters. It is an old recording from an old camcorder. But one I thought I should share

  • @subbass32 i use safari and on my phone when having headset on it's still left, so i don't know, maybe a youtube fail :-S

  • guys....

    240p = right only

    360p = both

  • I'm guessing it's a little fast????

    How 'bout some WOT footage!

  • american excess.

  • @gilessmokey Yes! There ought to be a Temperance Movement ® for thirsty boat motors....

  • That's a badass boat!

  • Why is there no valve covers?

  • Won't ask how much fuel it burns and how much it spits out. Engines from that era have huge tolerances in parts, as milling machinery wasn't that accurate those days.

Then there's the oil that you have to pour in every place the engine itself won't lubricate, such as the valve train. Indeed it's an expensive toy.

  • Some of you have your speakers reversed. :)

When you have the jack in your hand, touch the tip. It should make a noise on the left channel. If you hear it on the right, reverse your speakers or make a pigtail with a jack with the usual polarity and the female plug with the tip and middle connections reversed. :)

  • No need for rocker covers then!!

  • Pilots from that era suffered hearing loss. Those engines supposedly put out more DBs than a jackhammer in the street. That is officially the COOLEST thing I've seen all week!

  • Now, that is a smuggler. Alcohol smugglers used to put insane engines in boats during the prohibition era. They could outrun the law pretty easy..

  • If you absolutely positively have to have more cylinders...................

  • That motor powered a 7000 lb airplane??? And it's in a 400 lb boat? Crazy.

  • that things all motor...thats wat u call a muscle boat

  • What 38 morons didn't like this?

  • You definitely need all that power to

pull around the huge GAS TANK.

  • Drive it pussy.

  • in mono here also, .. but doesnt matter :)

  • dear santa.....

  • What an awesome boat! I sure do love the sound of a V-12

  • I like the way it just floats there, kind of like a dead manatee.

  • Would of made a very good rum runner boat with the addition of a little more room for the rum haha

  • audio only on right channel ????

  • was recorded on a mono camcorder, but its always played both channels on whatever computer I have used to see this, so may be a setting on your machine, or ? it is mono in any case however

  • @subbass32 Only left channel here. All other videos and music is correct, so it's the video or YouTube.

  • @SpeedFreakNO I dunno then. it plays off youtube on both channels on all the computers I have tried. Including just now. Its an old recording and an old upload, but it works on these machines, all PCs. I havent tried on a Mac tho

  • @subbass32 Very strange stuff :) Nice engine sound still though :)

  • @subbass32

nah, its only got 1 ch audio for sure...

  • @subbass32 NO ITS YOUR VIDEO i downloaded it so its not youtube its deffinatly your poor quality video

  • @kuza261 No reason to get nasty. It IS in mono, but as I said it plays on both speakers on the machine I am on now, and EVERY computer I have watched this on, including on streaming devices to a TV set ( WD Live, etc ) This video was shot in like 1998 on a relatively inexpensive 8mm camcorder, with a mono mic, and an b/w eyepice. tech has advanced a LOT since those days... lighten up, man, its an old home vid of an interesting and rare machine that I thought others might like to see..

  • I should add that it does play on both speakers for me whether in 240p or 360p, but the sound is different, sort of a synthesized stereo in 360. sounds better to me in 240, and YES it plays in both speakers.

  • @yiblon you mean left. your headphones are on backwards.

  • @yiblon your channels are the wrong way round

  • @yiblon no only on left for me O.o

  • @yiblon only left channel here too

  • @yiblon turn ur speaker or headset:P

  • I want that boat!

  • boats and hoes

  • Liberty engines were made for WW1 BECAUSE the areo engines that USA was using were built in France which supply was cut-off due to the war.

IT was designed in just three weeks and with over 4000 parts, the major parts were based on Packards to speed-up production. The hydrofoil boat HD4 built in Canada by Alexander Grahame, Bell used two Libertys with no pipes and the original four bladed aircraft Props. and the driver sat between the engines for a record speed of 70.86 MPH in 1919.

  • Does anyone know what these Liberty V-12 engines are worth?

  • @FullySickBut

    I'm pretty sure they're priceless now. :D

  • it is a muscle boat :D

  • So when we going fishing?

  • the only reason it stays to the dock because it takes 1 gallon of fuel in 30 sec to run the engine. xD

  • Do you want a V12 for your boat? Check out You Tube videos by American23t

  • also he bought it any information?

  • WHERE'S THE BOAT????

  • Who needs valve covers?

  • Wow thats so cool! Very steam punk!

  • the rockers dont need oil up there? and dont let al gore see those straight pipes LOL!

  • nothing like a pair of six cylinders on a common crankshaft whether diesel or gas.

  • jesus....unreal

  • does the exhaust just blow right in his face then? lol

  • finally a good looking boat nice job man=}

  • I assume you can't actually drive this boat, anything over 20mph and you'd have a face like Simon Weston.

  • the Liberty V12 engines in these boats were characterized as the boat for Lake Erie Rum Runners in 1925-26-27 in Dave Frew's Book on Lake Erie Rum Runners. These boats could carry 30 cases across Lake Erie in 45 minutes, return to Canadian shores twice each night, making 3 roundtrips per night. Book is fascinating reading, and the Coast Guard was powerless to catch the rum runners. PDF

  • HEY! this video is bs, it said theres a boat in the video, all I saw was a floating engine!

  • if you run that thing full out and make it back to tell the tale i think you might have accomplished something lol

  • It is a thing of beauty a work of art.

I love seeing the upper valve train.

    Thanks for the video.

And who in the hell are the people that vote this with thumbs down ?

  • Just prey you don't get any water in there, durr!

  • this is sick !

  • they had this engine in the martin mb1 and mb2

  • They built everything with beauty melted into it back in them days

  • Top video and great sound!

  • this is what happens when you put a big ass motor on a wakeboard

  • I've seen this boat at a car show in NY, one of the most beautiful boats I've ever seen. The hull looks like todays race boats but its from the 20's

  • yummy

  • wow thats incredible

  • holy shit , that MUST be fast.... now show me

  • A true man's sea vessel.

  • @RoboTekno

Until he runs out of gas 15 miles later.

  • wow i want one were could i find one

  • That must haul some serious ass.

  • umm I hope you a had a valve cover put on.. you don't want water in there =]

  • yea definitly

  • u gonna race it or what zzzzzzzzz

  • Amazing. Can you imagine how loud that is at load..Love the open valve train.

  • you can get an idea from the other video clip of this boat, that was taken with a lot of zoom, the boat was pretty far away when doing its run-by. you could easily hear it from way across the lake, and it has a big low bellowing sound, not like a modern high revving V-8, or even like a later merlin or allison engines. I think the liberty only ran up to 2000 rpm or so.

  • @subbass32 my dad found a triple cock pit mahongany boat in a barn in upper michigan tht has a packard v12 super charged motor in it wen my dads friend was looking for antique tracktors i need some info about it it isnt a criss craft.

  • @pismo10 more like 1200 rpms max

  • @pismo10

Yeah seeing those valve springs and rocker arms is pretty sweet.

  • Some of those Liberty engines wound up on towers above citrus orchards as "wind machines" to prevent frost damage. Anyone wants one bad that is where to go looking- very few left but I saw one or two as recent as ten years ago.

  • Runs real nice. The copper tank for oiling the Rockers is awsome...

  • IS THAT BOAT MADE OF MORNING WOOD???

  • now thats different....

but the open valvetrain and water....dosn't seem the best of ideas too me

  • @SuperMuise

Let's just hope it isn't salt water.

  • Whats the reasoning behind a total loss oil system?

  • The Liberty's were true race engines, estimated life expectance was a little more than 50 running hours, tons and tons of maintainance, but a hell of a lot of horsepower in a lightweight package!

  • open rocker in water O no....lots of maintainance

  • Love the stacks. LOL. A very useful design. Low power/weight ratio by modern standard, but reliable and tough. One good thing about total-loss oiling, it makes an engine harder to kill with a bullet. A Merlin gets hit in an oil line, it's done. These engines are designed to leak oil. God, I bet the EPA loves these things. You could chop off cylinder pairs easily to make a V8. I believe there was even a straight-6 version, with a different crankcase. They used these engines in tanks too.

  • Those liberty engines were WW1 era design. After the war ended they became surplus. For sale cheap to whoever. Rumrunners of this era bought up these liberty V12's and installed them into 40' cabin cruisers that were capable of speeds in excess of 40mph! I believe they were rated at 550hp

  • Nice hows it run

  • Wow that does sound great for how old it is. I wonder how much time and detail must go into restoring an engine like that. I guess it all depends on the condition the engine is in before restoration.

  • exposed rockers often is total loss oiling system , pilot behind motor wearing all the oil that blows off the motor-- men were men

  • I didnt know they made engines like that? you have to pretty much fill it with oil everytime you use it?

  • yep, id say the copper tank is the oil for the rockers

  • why...........??????????????\

  • Because he wanted to, and it's a race boat. Why not?

  • When I grew up on the CT shore, one of the old rum runners told me his boat had three Liberty V12s mounted side by side. There was so little room for the center engine that they had to remove both the starter and the generator. After they got underway, they would fire up the center engine with a bastard drive connected to one of the outer engines. He told me he never liked to run more than half throttle unless it was an "emergency".

  • cool story

  • wow this is sooooo great!

  • no valve covers? better stay away from salt water.

  • they were designed for bombers in World War One

these record boats only made a few runs

  • IIRC: They used these liberty-engined racing boats during prohibition, to run liquor inshore from foreign freighters anchored in international waters, and also across the Great Lakes from Canada. I think ol' man Kennedy had a fleet of these once. Some outrageous stories from those rum-running days running Coast Guard blockades.

  • looks like a uboat motor

  • valve covers?

  • thats what i thought

  • thats so much over kill i mean that little boat and that motor i dare u to run it all out... lol

  • That thing must fly!

  • O_0! Awesome!

  • can see the cams at work

  • those are the rocker arms john, they transfer the cam lobe motion to the valves

  • Comment removed

  • i like the zoomies. and that thing has GOT to haul some serious ass man!

  • Watching the video answers your own question :)

  • Well I don't know for sure, I don't wanna sound like a dumbass, even though I always am...

  • is this at Lake Wood Yacht Club?

  • This is at Coulon Park, Renton, Wa, on Lake Washington, SE of Seattle

  • Ahh .... just looked like the marina In Seabrook TX where they have several antique boat shows every year.

  • @ragnotgizmo no its in ur mothers asshole dumbfuck

  • @pencilsharpener15 lol coming from the fag posting videos of birds fucking each other... go eat some blue waffles.

  • sick.

  • wow that must be a blast to drive. nice work.

  • that motor is sick!!!!

  • thats incredible

  • I think the Liberty was developed in 1915. I might be mistaken about that one, though...

  • okay

  • I am sooo impressed - I luve to play with engines but his one I leave to the specialists ...

  • man theres nothing better than seeing rockers move

  • that engines should go back into a plane that way i can see it here in the prarys

  • that is so cool it mustve been such a rocket at that time. and scared people

  • Gorgeous! Feel Liberty's power!

  • maine lobsterman used to put these motors in thier boats so they could outrun the coasties during the rum running days =)

  • Fing cool... sit between the pipes or breath hi test fumes.

  • HAHAHA yeah baby the smell of liberty!!!!

  • great...a wooden bathtub with a V12 -_-'

  • One of these engines was used in "Babs" Parry Thomas world land speed record car in the 1920s on Pendine Sands in West Wales UK.

  • heavy insn´t it?:)

  • why he doesn´t use the valve covers?

  • I dont think it has any. All the Liberty engines I have seen have had open valve gear.

  • thx, it´s interesting, i had never ever seen something like that before...

  • remember, this engine dates back to the teens, its almost 100 years old now. they flew in big biplanes back in ww1

  • beautiful

  • INHALING FUMES HAHA BRIGHT

  • People in the 1920's were incredibly brave to drive those speedboats.

The Liberty L12 aeroplane engine saw use in record cars and record boats and was even used for some early WW2 tanks

  • he must have a death wish.

  • y is it bull? he probly means that his great grandfather built those engines back in ww2 not that particular one, and i beleive it , someone had to build them, so y not his great grandfather?

  • The Liberty engine was WWI, The original no. 1 is still owned by a relative who build the Liberty engine with my great grandfather. It still fires up. Unlike this engine, no. 1 had a displacement of 299" CID; whereas this one is likely the 1650 CID aircraft (bomber) variant. THe engine is a OHC 2 valve with gear driven camshafts. Very exotic! (not line workers)

  • NICE!

    comment below is BULL!

  • My great grandfather made that engine!

  • and i invented the scramjet engine..

  • i invented the lightbulb too

  • Ya well I impregnated your great great Grandmother and fathered your great Grandfather and without that he would not have done shit.

  • hahahaha!!!

  • Giggity giggity...

  • Is that the boat from "On Golden Pond"?

  • Umm, in a word, No. On Golden Pond used a Chris Craft U-22 Utility from the late 40s or early 50s. This boat is much older and is a racing boat.

  • Only sex feels better

  • I doubt that ^^

  • Just look at that engine.....hang on-i&#
