Perhaps you had it off for demonstration purposes, but you need a belt guard on that. I did this four years ago with a 5hp Briggs ran well might consider running a second generator for a hydrogen fuel cell to power the Briggs. Save that three dollars in gasoline.
@Sputterbutte Yes your right about the guard, It was mainly just an experiment, I gave it to a friend for his allotment-smallholding, which doesn't have any mains power, obviously not a 'Pro' set up as it is, just for fun really, Thanks for looking & your interest guys!
@Sputterbutte $3 in gasoline did you say , wow right now in England we are paying around £1.30 per Litre (1/4 of your Gallon seriously) I have a huge ex Army Gen set, it's a well engineeredold A Dinosaur but I love it! 816 cc 300lb weight and as it runs slow only 1500rpm uses a bit more 'Gas' Petrol than a Honda GX270-290, & it's 42 Years old!
ewww..... i had a similar idea but WTF these 1 i love it cos of the small engine how many time will it run with 1 litter of gas? >.< tnx for sharing the idea, its grate.
To be honest I think the more modern Briggs Quantum or similar engines are more suitable, this was only a little 2hp & pretty old aswell so was 'pushing it' a bit, I think a 4-5hp & there's power to spare!
@jasonmushersee Hi, yep all auto-car Alternator self adjust their outputs automatically (if they are working right-ok) so if you leave it running too long it cuts the power down to zero when it hits around 12.5v or thereabouts, makes them very adaptable,Dave.
@bonecrime Yes that's right, peak optimum charge on a car for Winter especially when loaded to hell, between 13.8-14.4v they say, reduce right down as they sense battery has reached 12.5v fully charged, cheers for looking-input.
Cool

Let's see this thing work some load! :-)

I was thinking about doing this too. Is the regulator inside the alternator enough to keep the battery from blowing up? (over charged)

@wind4watts More like 14.4V I think. :)
