He was flying in a pattern, you can tell this early in the video because he is following behind another aircraft at the same level. The crossing Cessna violated the pattern, it's entirely his fault; and he is also is flying an entirely different heading and wasn't at his appropriate +/- vertical separation requirement.
I don't have a ballistic chute. I have 15 ft. of garden hose attached to my plane. If I get into trouble, I deploy the hose. As everybody knows, as soon as you start to drag a garden hose it will instantly snag on something. Foolproof!
Pilot you owe a better explanation in your description. You leave many non-pilots to guess what happened. Try updating so everyone has a chance to understand. The pilot pulled up to avoid the passing aircraft but he hit the tow rope and abruptly stalled. Good call on the parachute deployment. Glad you are OK. Try to post better information though.
@Sittingduck30 really... and what's with the stupid accent... why did he pull his chute again? Coz he got scared and wanted to go home? That might have been the worst pilot I have ever seen.
I just ordered a new BRS 600 for my Quicksilver MX Sport. I hope to God I never need it, but if I ever do.....well what's ones life worth? Job well done on keeping your cool!
it wasnt the plane crossing his nose that caused the crash, he caught the tow wire, thats why he comes to such a sudden stop, then after the stop you hear the chute deploy. yea that plane shouldnt have been that close, but it isnt his fault, the pilot made the right quick descision, better to be alive and have to pay to fix you plane than to not be ably to fly again at all.
This pilot came in contact with a tow/glider tow rope, and the cable became entwined in his prop. I can't tell what type of attitude he was at after impact... obviously he felt it to be unrecoverable.
While this was at low altitudue a couple of things need to be considered. 1. What the hell was a guy doing that close to the runway that high off the ground? You would think he would try to get out of the airspace. 2. What in the world is a guy doing that kind of move THAT close to the airport. When you are in airport space, the games don't fly.
I am almost certain that it is runway at 0:41, this pilot should have been out of the way, and the other pilot should have been aware of the airplane in the space. Yet again confirms that both pilots do have quite a bit of fault in this.
This must have happened near a runway, both planes were low to the ground. I would say that both pilots are at fault in this case, but I would place more blame onto the pilot that was climbing for not clearing himself before taking such a steep and accelerated climb. If they were near an airspace, I would place even more blame on the pilot of the distressed craft because he was not following pilot protocol and GTFO of the airspace when not landing or taking off. The pilot was blind to the other.
it seemed like he was too low to try to correct the plane, i think his decision to pull the chute was the best.
The airframe should not be damaged from the initial pulling of the parachute, but damage is likely to occur if you do not land on a flat, clear surface.
When flying VFR in uncontrolled airspace, traffic from the right has right of way.
Especially a tow-plane is very hard not to see. The pilot who filmed this should pay more attention to flying and to a sharp lookout in stead of operating his camera.

explanation needed: if the aircraft didn't touch, why did he have to open the parachute? couldn't he keep flying?

Man, that sound of the rocket pulling the parachute is awesome. Thanks to BRS.

Frankly speaking, he only lost the propulsion while being right over the runway... I would be trying to save the airframe.
krbosak 2 years ago
Don't worry about the saving the airframe, that's for the insurance company to worry over.
dougwhitef12 2 years ago
Does the airframe take serious damage during a landing with the parachute?
I probably would have tried to control the aircraft and would have fired the BRS if I failed.
