The atomic bombs killed around 300,000, i think. Japan killed 10s of millions across Asia from 1937-1945. Also, without the atom bombs, an invasion of Japan would have been necessary, in which potentially millions of civilians would have been made to either fight in a futile defense or kill themselves a la Okinawa.
The atom bombs were an act of mercy against a completely fanatically deluded and brainwashed people. People need to accept that Japan was punished for it's crimes and shut up.

@Hiposinell Too bad the IJN failed to destroy the carriers - which were the main objectives all along. Not to mention it didn't send a third wave to knock out the fuel and ammunition depots - which actually would have delayed the US far longer.

@Hiposinell It was merely a tactical victory only. Regardless, the Japanese industry simply could not keep up with the US and in a prolonged fight, Japan eventually would have lost anyway. Pearl Harbor merely delayed the US by roughly half a year. For some reason, the Japanese were obsessed with targetting the battleships than anything else - that was a huge mistake. They only sunk 3 cruisers and 3 destroyers and none of the submarines.
@Hiposinell BTW - it wasn't the Aichi 'Val's that were equipped with AP bombs...those were used by the B5N 'Kate' planes. Aichi D3s only had general purpose bombs used in that attack. Even Admiral Hada Tahichi quoted "We won a great tactical victory in Pearl Harbor and thereby lost the war". Even with only a small number of battleships, the USN focused hugely on carriers and submarines - whereas the Japanese thought that naval warfare would be fought primarily by battleships.

Yup truth is that japanese had no chance of wining this war but they showed great honor while defending they islands until the last men. @Hiposinell The battleships in Pearl Harbor were somewhat obselete anyway. Besides, WW2 already showed that battleships were highly vulnerable to submarines and aircraft. Regardless of how hard the Japanese fought, they were fighting for a wrong cause and committed war crimes far more cruel than any of the Allies and by some historians, even worse than the Germans. BTW, Japanese troops from WW2 are still 'honored' by the older folks in Japan, even shrines dedicated to them are around.

@Hiposinell It was merely a tactical victory only. Regardless, the Japanese industry simply could not keep up with the US and in a prolonged fight, Japan eventually would have lost anyway. Pearl Harbor merely delayed the US by roughly half a year. For some reason, the Japanese were obsessed with targetting the battleships than anything else - that was a huge mistake. They only sunk 3 cruisers and 3 destroyers and none of the submarines.

@Hiposinell BTW - it wasn't the Aichi 'Val's that were equipped with AP bombs...those were used by the B5N 'Kate' planes. Aichi D3s only had general purpose bombs used in that attack. Even Admiral Hada Tahichi quoted "We won a great tactical victory in Pearl Harbor and thereby lost the war". Even with only a small number of battleships, the USN focused hugely on carriers and submarines - whereas the Japanese thought that naval warfare would be fought primarily by battleships.

@Hiposinell The battleships in Pearl Harbor were somewhat obselete anyway. Besides, WW2 already showed that battleships were highly vulnerable to submarines and aircraft. Regardless of how hard the Japanese fought, they were fighting for a wrong cause and committed war crimes far more cruel than any of the Allies and by some historians, even worse than the Germans. BTW, Japanese troops from WW2 are still 'honored' by the older folks in Japan, even shrines dedicated to them are around.

And yes, I've seen WWII destroyers. I play an online game which is full of them. However, those are either Arleigh Burke class or Aegis-class DDs (only 1 turret and the rocket launchers / CIWS systems can be seen). The director (Michael Bay) is known for historically innacurate re-enactments.

Still the Axis was worse. Nothing can make up for any of the crimes committed in WW2.
