the united states of america, well known as a nation of immigrants god bless american i'm white american german blood... german/american i love the video.. awesome
I live in Ohio. The farthest west I've ever been is New Mexico and only for a few days. I normally just go on vacation to Cape Cod or Fripp Island. I think it'd be cool to visit San Francisco sometime, though.
The cable cars are actually the same and, as I understand it, there are a few from that era that have been completely refurbished and are used today. The large cable car you mostly see if the California Street cable car which is still the same length and longer than the Powell & Mason and Hyde street cable cars.
The cable cars seen here look quite larger than the one's they have today in Frisco. Were they retired or scrapped? Also, you will never see an era like this ever again, the music the style, and the sense of community was so strong. Both my parents grew up in Philadelphia and were teenagers during this era, and the stories I heard over the years about the depression and the war. Great stuff ! And thank you for the post, it's really enjoyable! I want to visit Frisco soon.
To my knowledge they were never changed. although the film makes everything look squashed.... Oh and Frisco is in Texas. Im a native born and we just prefer San Francisco Because she is a gem :)
Man...SF was so clean back then. No homeless bums, drug addicts, mental cases, grafitti, or trash and garbage on the sidewalks. Amazing what can happen to a city in just 40 years.
Amen.....you said it right for sure. I lived there from 1972-1994. For me, it was the best time of my life and I'd love to do it all again. The song is true, you really do leave your heart in San Francisco. I think of her EVERY day of my life! Now, from my talks with a friend that is still there, you couldn't even rent a studio for less than $1500 a month and that's not even in a good area. No area is really safe anymore. Lot's of Gang activity there now. Sad!
That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I live in Nob Hill in one of the nicest areas in the city and I pay $1,100 a month...that's nothing. Also, gang activity in SF is so laughable it's funny, try LA, NY, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, etc etc and you'll see much, much worse.
You said it first!! You live on Nob Hill, better known to the locals as Snob Hill. You're sheltered from the (ghetto's of SF) and yes they DO have their areas. When's the last time you were in the Excelsior district.-hanging about? Yeah. OK... Stay happy!!
i remember last year in 2007 on hear watching a vid of downtown Misapplies Minnesota in 1941 with a funny guy clicking car wal they went bye LOL and now i have lost it and cant seem to find it no more oh Crap but i am still looking for it .
thx
