  • I remember these old Baldwin Steamers Santa Fe had, this 4-6-2 was a class 3400, 1948 to 1952 were my youngers years with Santa Fe being around Steamers. I was a Fireman, Brakeman and Throttle Jerker on Steamers. I'm glad to see her operating again.

  • From an old retired ATSF Throttle Jerker, Great video of an old Baldwin 4-6-2. 1948 to 1950 I use to throttle jerk a Baldwin 2-6-2 and a Baldwin 4-8-4 then 1950 to retirement the Diesels. Great video of an old memory.

  • If Santa Fe had a similar classification system like this, I'm unaware of it.

  • Where on the line was this taken?

  • This was in the west end of the yard, a couple blocks west of the depot.

  • that is a beautiful piece of machinery!

  • She's a pacific right? What type of pacific is she exactly?

  • I'm not aware of different types of pacifics. What details are you looking for? She was built by Baldwin.

  • Wouldn't it say on the bolier plate? Or did you guys remove it during restoration?

  • @Jared1452 AT&SF didn't use classifications like the PRR or Reading, C&O etc etc. AT&SF uses their numbering system for the classes. Beginning with the first number of the class, so the answer to your question is 3415 is a AT&SF 3400 class pacific. AT&SF didn't use terms like K4s, J3a, or T-1 etc. Hope that answers your question.

  • @Jared1452 She's a 3400 class.

  • nice vid i cant wait till they finish restoring ATSF 2926 I love santa fe they are slowly coming back one by one

  • Well done guys, she is absolutely beautiful, if you ever feel like bringing her to Michigan announce it please! I would definitely pay to ride behind her!

Blow that whistle loud for me!

  • She looks great!!! I got a private tour while they were restoring it.

  • I doubt that opportunity will come up...but never say never!

  • your restored this engine? cool! where is this?

  • We're in Abilene, KS. About 2.5 to 3 hours west of Kansas City.

  • Do you think you will double head with ATSF 3751? You guys have done a Awesome job in restoring her!

  • WOW! This really seems like an improvement over 6 months ago!

  • You have to get her out on a main some where and open her up. How many miles of track do you guy's have?

    Len.

  • We have six miles of track to run her on but no turntable or wye. We do a runaround for the trip back so she will be going backward on the way home.

  • A little painting, lubrication, check some small leaks...down to mostly piddly stuff.

  • Great to see her looking so good! What do you have left to do before she's ready to go out for a "real" run?

  • From what I've read, when she was in regular service, she was running passenger trains at 70 mph or more. We'll hold her back to just 15 on account of our track conditions and short travel distance.

  • when and where did you guys get this engine? I appreciate seeing it the other day. i was the one that got to come into the shop and get my picture with it. are you the one that took my picture?

  • I don't remember taking anybody's pic recently. Thanks for coming by. The engine was donated to Abilene in the mid 50s and sat in their park until 1996. We moved it from there to our property and started the restorarion in 2004.

  • How fast can she go?
