I play cod4on the Old macbook pro with an external Dell monitor - but I am having problems with bootcamp and black ops -have you tried bootcamp w/blackops on this?
Alternatively - If anyone knows a reliable link to a Macish os version (: of Black ops I would be very grateful.
I have been a pc gamer for over 10 years and have had 5 high end gaming laptops died due to any number of faults.I have had enough and I'm buying MacBook pro.I borrowed my friends one and it's a joy to use.
Yea I have to agree even though my desktop is a pc and is like 5 times better than the mac pro for cheaper. I have to admit if you want a good laptop and you play games macbook pro is perfect and its super nice looking I know i'm getting myself one. I kinda wish I had gotten a mac pro also even though it would of been a lot more for the hardware I wanted. Because it's nice having windows and mac os x
ur retarded. do you see how bad this framerate is? i am getting a lenovo y550 with a nvidia geforce 260 gt that can run crysis on high settings with a framerate of 40. and you know how much it costs? $900. you are getting a computer that isnt nearly as good that is abbout $1500. oh buuuuurn
Haha wow thanks for calling me retarded do you even know my computer specs? Also your replying to something I wrote like 2 months ago...but anyways my specs are (2) gtx 260s sli, 6g ram, (2)500g hd's (that's 1000g's if you cant count) and an intel I7 (which has 8 cores). So i'm pretty sure my computer is better...also my $1500 included the 27' screen and surround sound speakers so it was only $1000..I think you got ripped off man.
Hey dude sorry about the earlier comment. That wasn't me. My friend was using my computer and he hates macs something terrible. Ya... i think he either forgot to sign out of my account before he left the comment, or did it on purpose, that little fucker. So anyway no hard feelings right? And dang nice computer dude!!!
it's not about the price when it comes to mac. i mean sure, you definitely get a gaming PC for much cheaper, but you can't do mac stuff (all of the video editing and whatnot) on a windows computer. the macbook pro is definitely not built for gaming, it's just a proof of concept.
yeah thats true. but then again you can install programs that can do that on pc that are just as good. it basically comes down to this, if you are a major business liason and do video editing and stuff like that get a mac. if you use computers for gaming, internet, and dont want to spend a ton of money, then get a pc. its all in the preference.
nice, for a laptop, i know that macbook pro have 2 video card inside, 9400m and 9600m GT, how do you switch beetwen them in windows? can be use in SLI?(i mean both at the same time)
im pretty sure its the hardware or bios that switches between gpu's, so it should work regardless if your using osx or windows, and i highly doubt sli would work unfortunately
Obviously the 9600. Decent fps for windows mode however its on 1280x800, not really game-playable... He should be playing on 1680x1050(1440x900 for the 15icnh) with low setting to get about 40fps ave. The 9600 is only 128bit tho so I don't know if there's any settings that it will play crysis fluently at a decent res. The 9600 is more of a form-factor/budget card than a gaming card.
hey, i have the option of getting an alienware m17x or a macbook pro. budget is $3300. i will do a fairly decent amount of gaming, like crysis, fallout 3, cod 5 but more of internet browsing movies music etc. and now i ask the eternal question, which one should i get?
ummm dont get a brand build it urself man or go to a site like ibuypower and do a configurator.....i have a pc that plays crysis on max for 600 bucks so i bet u can save some money.....ill make up a configurator for ya if yu want
hey thnks man, didnt really think of that. think u can make a decent sample config up. dont go all out, i can do some details but just to get an idea. thnks man
That's because you're using the wrong NVidia drivers. Only a few are supported in W7, because Nvidia hasn't actually MADE any w7 drivers yet. I think I'm using either 175 or 177 - I'm not on the macbook right now to check. :(
Just google it. But yeah, there isn't many to choose from, so it won't be too hard to narrow it down. Just know, it wasn't one of the ones that came with my mac installer disc, lol. ATI is the only one who actively makes w7 drivers so far. Hope that helps!
Looks like Vista - you're using Direct X10 yes? Try it in XP and repost your findings, with the faster game play FPS, or use Windows 7 if you want to continue to use Dx10. Thanks!
im sorry but you guys are mad. simply mad. No mac - whatever it is can come close to a PC for gaming performance. For £500 you could build a PC thats three times as powerful as any mac - ever made. Its a fact.
People buy macs to be 'trendy' which is fine. But please dont insult the genre by thinking they can come even close to a PC for cost over performance. Its simply not true and/or possible. Macs are a marketing gimmick for the stupid and long may it remain so.
I'm not guna go into mac vs pc, i'm just saying i agree with foreverskateboard, pcs are better for gaming, they are cheapers, more powerful, upgradeable, and have more games. Simple fact. For everything else, get a mac.
If you NEED a mac, then make sure its as powerful as possible and get bootcamp
I hear people talk shit about Macs a lot, but you take it to another level. So the only reason I converted from my years of PC use to a Mac is because I want to be trendy? So I didn't buy my Macbook Pro for the streamlined experience with a superior OS? Wow, thanks for filling me in.
Um... You can't buy a better specced Laptop for the same price or cheaper. The Macbook Pro is on of the best gaming laptop's you can buy. The only better ones are $3000 or more.
I would know: I have a MBP, and it is great for games.
You would save a bit if you bought a PC that was much cheaper, and then performed some surgery yourself. However, to the common consumer, that isn't really feasible.
Likewise, the end product is much better than what any PC in the market can offer: Leopard makes Vista a joke, and Macs can run it if it is needed (which a PC cannot do vice versa).
The contrasts between the two will flush out in June.
Dude, I'm agreeing with you that the Macbook pro is very good for gaming! i USE it for gaming, but from what I have seen, there are cheaper, more powerful, but less reliable gaming laptops out there! no need to get feisty! I'm typing this on a Macbook Pro! and i play all my Steam games on my Macbook pro as well.
Well if you want to run it at native res you have to have shaders and shadows set to medium. You can put them at High, but frame-rate will be 10-20 fps depending on where you are. So I always leave them at medium unless I play at a pretty low res. The other settings don't matter. I only notice a 2fps drop if I switch all other settings from Medium to High So it's worth it.
btw, there will *hopefully* be a macbook pro update where they implement the Core i7 mobile processor into the macbook. This is a 2 core processor that will let you Multithread (simulate 4 cores) on a notebook... the desktop versions have a 38% performance increase from core 2 quad to Core i7 Base model. -- this will probly give you at LEAST 10+ frames on your fps =)
nice i believe you but i'd like to see a video. i play Fallout 3 on my imac on very high for everything but i got 2gb of ram. indoors and cities its 60fps wasteland is 30 fps
Is that a game? You mac poser!! I dont need that. Lol. Anyway I sold my MBP. I am going to get an EEE PC or a dell mini 9. I dont know which yet. I am thinking the dell mini for no fans. Since I will be in iraq and I dont want to dig out sand the rest of my life.
So did you get your MBP fixed? Crysis does run damn well on it though, I'll be purchasing probably the same version that you have in a few weeks I think so this is pretty interesting.
It does look bad, because the screen capture software did crappy compression on it and slowly decreased the recorded fps from 20 to 15 fps over the course of the video. That's why it looks unplayable. On my end, however, I get 25-40 fps on average. More than playable (I managed to beat the game with that, though the final boss fight was only 10 fps).
I did look at your settings, however did your previous Macbook Pro not preform better, i can't really remember the video... Also, thanks for the quick response.
I realized that about 20 min agom i thought this video was uploaded by a different user (i don't really pay attention to the user, as long as im subscribed i watch). I thought this video was uploaded by the user soldierknowsbest. Although my comment still holds its merit, aside from that.
Figured you mistook me for him lol. Soldierknowsbest didn't have the settings as high as I have them on his old Macbook Pro, so I'm willing to take a small drop in frames for visuals. The recorder makes it look like crap however (if you look at the full size of it you'd see how it does this).
Perhaps I should record it with my video camera to show performance.

Funny that a $900 asus with i5 and 5730 runs crysis on high details on a higher resolution with 30+fps and gets 4 hours in Windows.

Best to use a video camera to record. The screencapture/recorder makes it confusing. And doesn't give us exact feel how it performs.
NtlgntNrg 2 years ago
Dude remove v-sync it laggs the game
maltesekiller 3 years ago
V-sync is disabled. THe "lag" is because the screenrecorder kills performance. Never use a screenrecorder to base how well the game runs.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
Perhaps you could record it without the screen recorder and show us how it really plays?
i would really like to know before I buy this machine.
MikeMayhem1234 3 years ago
