The island is called Little Diomede. It looks like a rock plopped into the Bering Strait. Only about 150 Alaskans live on the whole island. And just about two miles away; in full view of every single house on the island is the nation of Russia. Specifically, it is the Russian Island of Big Diomede which sits about 25 miles from the Russian Siberian mainland (which you can also see from the American island.)

The island is called Little Diomede. It looks like a rock plopped into the Bering Strait. Only about 150 Alaskans live on the whole island. And just about two miles away; in full view of every single house on the island is the nation of Russia. Specifically, it is the Russian Island of Big Diomede which sits about 25 miles from the Russian Siberian mainland (which you can also see from the American island.)

Assuming the show stays to a consistent location/set, then later procedure is obviously streamlined from months to a week or two (per episode). If, however, there are constant new locations, then all of the pre-production dancing would start from square one. Unless all the episodes were already written, then that might help with location finding, contracting, etc....it varies really.
Still complex though.

Again, no. Living next to, and being able to simply SEE across a boarder does not give one insight nor experience in international politics. Hell, listening to some fucking BBC News would give someone more insight than that. To wit, Palin could have simply answered that Alaska, oh, I don't know, BORDERS CANADA, and that she actually DOES deal with that country. Of course, that would have been rational.

Commerce, oil shipment, actual fucking roads that connect Alaska to Canada...y'know, things that actually take place day to day that she directly dealt with. Both nations border alaska and both have daily commerce affairs that deal with alaska. She meant it and you can actually see Russia from the mainland according to every native who's been to the the Alaskan Coast. According to a New York Times Article; If you stand on high ground on the tip of St. Lawrence Island a larger Alaskan island in the Bering Sea, southwest of the Diomedes—you can see the Russian mainland, about 37 miles away, you can also see Russia from the Tin City Air Force facility at Cape Prince of Wales, which is the westernmost point of the mainland Americas.

This clip has been so incredibly overanalized it's ridiculous. It's not like she thinks out her answers beforehand to make sure they will meet up with political standards and decided that this would be the best way to get her point across. In Palin's early interviews, I think she was trying to have a friendly conversation, and didn't realize that's not what interviews are about. and youtube doesn't like friendly conversation.
