@zfs391 There are many sites that explain Giants pretty well. A few things to remember 1. very smart 2. probably need more training and effort than most breeds 3. they need more attention than most breeds
good luck! They are great dogs, comapnions and gaurdians. Enjoy!
@humanparadox Yes. They do need a lot of exercise, but it does not matter if it's in a fenced in yard, dog park, or on a run. Note that you should still get some off-leash time in. They will love it and it will allow them to control the pace/what they do.
I love your giant! Schnauzers are so smart. My inlaws have had two minis so my husband and I finally decided to get our own mini. He's been home for just over a week - making him 9 weeks old now. Our little guy is "Jedi" (my 9 yr old son named him!) He can sit and lay down now and I just started working on roll over yesterday - he's starting to catch on. Great video! Can't wait to watch your others.

Wow, what an amazing puppy. I like the hand and voice commands you and your family use. My family and I just purchased our first Giant Schnauzer, her name is Angel and she will be 7 weeks olds tomorrow. Any pointers on how to house train her? I have read so many different things, not sure what is the best way. Also, how soon can I begin teaching her the basic commands? And what is the best way to do so? Thank you for your time.
@matkins925 Hello !! Congratz on your new Schnauzer!!! They make great family companions!!!!
House Breaking- this is the single most question I get asked.
My recommendations for house breaking is to crate train. You can find many videos on this subject (maybe I should make one :)
When to start training- Today :) remember to always use hand signals and be consistent. Make sure everyone practices with the dog. More questions email me @ meetmygiant@gmail.com
@woodworkspoos Sorry for the delayed response, basically all of your core commands should have hand or body signals associated with them. This lets you tell the dog what you expect without using your voice. Example the fist represents sit and you'll notice the hand touching the floor represents lay, an open hand (like stop) represents stay. Very easy to teach just remember to use the body signal when saying the command and in a short time the dog will only need the body signal. good luck!
are these dogs extremly hyper? i use to have a mini and absoutely LOVED him. he had to get put down /: and my gma has his cousin and she isnt hyper unless you hype her up. same with my old mini. everywhere im reading about giants say theyre nothing like the minis and theyre reallllllllly hyper and energetic. is this true?
@Dekoven06 Tuff questions for a short answer :) I would say if you are willing to put the time in and pay for professional training for yourself and the dog then yes anyone can own any type of dog if they are willing to put the time in. Giants need lots of attention and training right from the start. It's a big investment in your time to have a well behaved trained and adjusted dog. Good Luck!
This is adorable! I have a 11.5 year old Giant and am 21 now. He truly is a girl's best friend. I trained him when I was barely ten and it was very easy for me. Giants are loving and great with children. I won't ever get another breed. (btw mine's is really healthy).
Hi! I'm jealous! We just adopted two giant schnauzer puppies. They are 12 weeks and understand the commands: sit, leave it and come. But, really it's hit and miss with both of them. I find that when training them they end up playing instead with each other. It's interesting to see how similiar your dog is to ours in that they like to bite the air and make the snapping noise. It's so funny! Like you said, they are going to be huge and it's important to get everyone involved. :)
This is too precious. So nice to see the kids involved in Uma's training. I have Giants, too, so I know how easily they can take over unless everyone is on the same page with training.
Carnt wait to get mine only 1 month left!! Yay
Great vid as well btw! :)

I am interested in a Giant Schnauzer but I have an apartment. If i exercise him/her, do you think it is ok??

What is the training technique you are using. I notice the fist and the dog comes and touches it. Very neat.

Very sweet - our black mini-schnauzer refuses to roll over on a hard surface. I can see Uma follows instruction although she protests!
