@spaciousgalaxy She wasn't trying to look good. She was a professional actress who was playing a character who needed to have blond hair. Her aim was not to please an audience with her appearance, but to portray a tragic woman, whose character and appearance was not her own. She was brilliant in Tennessee Williams's "Streetcar Named Desire". The blond hair helped.
About an hour ago I finished reading a biography of V.L. She was married to Olivier for 20 years, a second marriage for both, suffered with mental illness throughout her life, had many shock treatments throughout the years, died at 53 of tuberculosis. She was alone when she died.
AWESOME VIDEO! Love the song Vivien is an amazing actress. Where did you get the pics from? Some I have never seen before. Thanks:) Keep the great videos coming.
Vivien Leigh made a surprisingly small number of movies during her career and this may have been to her benefit. Certainly, she was talented but she didn't have the depth of many other film actresses (Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Deborah Kerr, Vanessa Redgrave, Meryl Streep,etc.). However, her Blanche DuBois in 1951's "A Streetcar Named Desire" remains one of the best performances ever filmed.
@jckfmsincty Leigh was constantly doing plays. She prefered plays to films. She especially loved working opposite Olivier and being directed by him. Although they eventually divorced (because he could no longer deal with her mental illness) they remained each other's great love.
@supergrimmfan Hi. I remember once reading that Leigh was also frustrated by not being able to really match Olivier's talent and presence on the stage. Thanks.
She'll always live in our hearts. The talented and dear Vivien Leigh. She didn't live a very long life but she sure gave a lot, much more than most other actresses from her time. She was beautiful in everything she did, and extrordinarily talented. She won't be forgotten. R.I.P Vivien Leigh
