I first heard about Opeth a couple of months ago. They've quickly risen to be my favorite band of all time. The musical skill level is beyond comparison. And the fact that they are original and always stay true to themselves, make them phenomenal.

American music producers would shit themselves if the American public demanded music on the same creative and technical level as Opeth. The music industry would become far less profitable, given that high musical aptitude is quite rare, and the public would be -much- more conservative with their musical purchases. This is why music like this will never make it through to mainstream America -- those with money in our society keep our standards exceeding low by saturating the market.

Opeth are a progressive band you can hear different kinds of influences in their songs folk,jazz,etc. They also make songs that are not death metal. They are not a pure death metal band they are a progressive death metal band
