Like yourself, I continuously go through these 'What-If' cycles. What-if he had stayed on, What-if he had ordered a mass arrest of the Mullahs and the Communists, What-If ... BUT, over the same period, I have come across numerous documents and historical references which suggest that he could not and by the end (1979) he knew it!
