I really don't like this. I can appreciate what he's trying to achieve with it, a kind of Johnny Cash storytelling vibe, but I don't think it works. I think the lyrics are pretty clear in the original and "the message" gets through.

This was done in radio 1's live lounge, its where artists perform there own songs then have to do a cover (usually from outside there own genre) I don't think he was doing this for any reason other than the radio show!

I really think that's his style, and uh the music IS the guitar- his singing was the harmony.

Accually, the song was originally a poem by a south bronx school teacher. If you look the song up it say's "Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five ft. Melle Mel and Duke Bootee" because they accually did the song, without Grandmaster Flash and the other guy's. If you don't beleive me, look it up somewhere.
