@carnut476 you should be punished for saying such a thing. You can no longer listen to anyone who has, or wishes they had sung with emmylou. Your world would have no music!!!!!
I love Emmy Lou, I like Dwight, but only George and Tammy can do this song right. This version simply isn't very good. There is no passion, no feeling, and this song needs both.
I have been listening to Emmy for many years. She is not well in this performance. Even straining and hoarse she is still the very best. The show must go on.
Great and i'm the fool but do I hear, "LONG BLACK VEIL (TRADITIONAL) G TEN YEARS AGO ON A COLD DARK NIGHT D D7 C G THERE WAS SOMEONE SHOT 'NEATH THE TOWN HALL LIGHT G FEW WERE AT THE SCENE BUT THEY ALL AGREE D D7 C G THAT THE MAN DID THE SHOOTING LOOKED A LOT LIKE ME"
@cyasares No...Good ear! I hear it too. I knew I was hearing something that sounded familiar and not familiar like Golden Ring...and you got it. Thanks!
@jamesojld what a stupid comment. Emmylou is in my opinion the greatest female country singer ever and only Johnny Cash is ahead of her for me in all areas male and female. She is amazing and to dis her like that is very ignorant and disrespectful. I love tammy too so incase you were going to throw that back in my face. There is a reason Emmylou is so succesful. Ever think why?
For those you who think your in the know. Go back and listen to Emmylou with Gram Parson. Then tell me about "tempo" Jeepers what the hell are you people talking about.
I totally agree with you. No one does this song like the original artists, George Jones and Tammy Wynette. I do like both Dwight or Emmylou doing other stuff...
She's just not used to the tempo Dwight plays is in. She's trying to pretty it up while he's trying to keep in in the lines of outlaw-ish country. If you notice she does not come in and out on time. Next time they'll get it right though.
this only shows, as we've all known, dwight is one of the absolute greatest, by having an unbelievable voice, & choosing to form unbelievable creative skills to songs!!!
he is the total package!
it's great to see that he's always followed his own path, which is totally artistically enriching!!!
I absolutely love Emmylou, but over the years I fear her vocal chords have been injured, maybe due to nonstop touring. Her voice was much stronger on songs like "Two More Bottles of Wine" and "Making Believe" from the seventies, and "Duets" and "Trio" albums from the eighties. Her impeccable taste, choices of sidemen, creativity, ability to get to the heart of country music, and then to push its limits have earned her legendary status, but I still prefer her voice on the earlier recordings.
You must not have seen or heard her with Spyboy. Their show on the AVO Sessions in Basel Switzerland is a tour-de-force. That was in 2000. I too felt the way you do for many years, but now that I've seen and heard her more recent work I admire her talent even more. True, she's not like she was in 1977, but then, neither am I...Jack
Saw her live three times - in 2000 with Buddy Miller, sat in 5th row; in 2001 at Golden Gate Park and in Berkeley with the "Down from the Mountain, Oh Brother" entourage. Her talent and taste are not what I'm questioning. It's the condition of her pipes. She can no longer hit the notes on songs like "Love Hurts" without going lemon-sucking sour. I'm a big fan of Emmylou, in fact I love her, but even Pavarotti knew there is a time limit on being a world-class vocalist.
About 20 years ago (post Hot Band as I recall) EH & DY toured together & it was great. It was my first date with my now wife (who never heard country music before) and after the show it was raining a bit and Emmylou asked us on her bus to sign our program and chatted with us for a few minutes. She ask about our lives, and what we thought of the show and liked that it was our first date. What a nice lady. My now wife never did take to the music, too much but she was impressed I guess.
i once literally walked into her, just a few moments before she was due going onstage at a venue in my home town. I was speechless, but managed to ask for her autograph on a CD cover ..lol she was totally nice.
Love country music !!! The world would be so boring( at least for me) without country music and singers like these two !!! For me country songs and a serene country side itself is a medicine !!!
Who doesn't love White Trash Dwight?, Besides, you're sharing the stage with one of the finest ladies that ever graced any entertainment stage, sing along, and Buck the rest!!
I love this song but i wouldn't call it bluegrass, it's honky tonk. Believe me i know, my mum is ALWAYS playing bluegrass - bluegraas has banjo and fiddle type stuff in it, there is acoustic bluegrass but this is definately honky tonk. Great song tho!
Baaack into the shop ... " Texas " Emmy : ) and Dwight ... Rockiiin' deee George jones and Tammy ' s Classic here ... Great , Oooh Great !!! : D Yep , COOL POST , thanks ! : )

@Diarmid63: Exactly! This version doesn't suit the lyrics at all, whereas the George/Tammy version is perfection.

OK account number 2,
3 posts is NOT exeededing youtube cops.
Just want to say I hate rockafied country tunes, the original is sooooo much tastier and sweeter.
OK this beat works for Guitars and Caddilacs but it royaly sucks for "Golden Ring"
2 steppers get over yourselves please.
This song was never meant to be a dance tune. Great artists here but their out of place with this one.

Maybe she's not "watching the man for direction".
Emmylou is arguably the consummate duet partner, and normally maintains eye contact with her partner(s). Still seems to work for her.
