Great video. Also thanks for think of the people here in Alabama and mentioning the relief effort. The folks who were effected by that storm are still working to recover. Our beloved GOVERNMENT pulled almost all of help when the hurricane came through the east coast recently. Leaving those that still had not gotten help with nothing. Hopefully they will come through in the end for them.
Again great video. and keep us posted with videos as to your work on this project.
@engineer775, do you have any idea what it would cost to have someone build a root cellar like this? I have been doing a lot of research on various options for long-term food storage, and this seems like the most cost-effective. My property is in the south where the water table is too high for a basement, and the humidity is always high. Obviously I'm concerned about moisture degrading the food.
appreciate your videos very much. you and southern prepper1, eastcoastprepper, brooklynprepper and others gives me such a sense of extended family with a base and purpose of living. blessings to you and yours. thank you. long island prepper
Thank you so much for this! I really appreciate it very much. The little towns and counties get pushed to the side in these disasters and I am going to keep this going to help them out. Thank you for the support!!
Please dont forget us here in NWGA. Due to a storm earlier in the day all power was out in the areas that were hit the hardest which means they got double wammied but in a sense it was a blessing because none were home when the tornado came through that night.
I've spoken with an older homesteader and she said, "storing apples with potatoes will make the potatoes sprout. Apples should be stored in a different area to prevent that. Nice root cellar! I can't wait to get ours done!
Have been and will continue to pray for the people of AL and ECP. Nice shelter and root celler. Looking forward to seeing the project develop. God Bless!
Well done, engineer775! A storm shelter requires a lot of stores and supplies. Do you keep them some place else and move them in when weather looks unfavorable? Past 12 months here in SC it seems anything might happen at an time.
Don't believe in the religious mess, but I really hope the people are doing ok effected by the storm...and your right eastcoastprepper is doing a awesome thing by helping others in need!!

Great video.I started a storm shelter a few weeks ago,Got about two feet down and hit solid sand rock today. All that work by hand. That's ok I'll turn it into something else,And try again.
Nice job Dude! We have LOT'S of rain here, so even with concrete floor, we have enough humidity down there. We don't use ours for storms (Basement instead), because there's a 40 ft walnut tree that could fall on root cellar. (Post this video as response to mine, and I'll approve) Sending link to Mrs. NewAmericaNow, for her information in building theirs.
A root cellar or an option that functions like a root cellar, would be high on my list. Up here in Montana, you would need 4 feet of dirt on top to be certain that the contents did not freeze. In an above ground root cellar, that was built into the side of a hill, using R60 in the wall and ceiling, a 40 watt bulb was needed to keep it at 40 F when outside temps were a sustained -20F for weeks. Food stored at between 40 and 70F lasts much longer, possibly by decades. Excellent investment.
We are in the process of planning a root cellar and the best place on our lot to do so. Thanks engineer we are looking forward to more videos. Still praying for our brothers and sisters who are effected by the storms.
Have you thought about using compressed earth blocks?

As a civil Engineer I love rammed earth structures. They are time consuming to build but are stout when finished. Have fun and good luck with it
