  • I like Linux, Mac and Windows 7.

  • its nc 1

  • i'm a LINUX user Ubuntu and Gentoo user and there are Viruses Trojans malware to all of the systems. Don't belive for a min what Mac users says"or steve blowjobs". there are bad code for them all. there is just less for Mac and Linux at the moment.

  • WIndows 7 is the king of Operating System period. If you do want to spend some time learning and making things work on Linux it's fine, I do that but when it comes to reliability and get your professional job done there is no question Windows 7 is the way to go. I like Linux but it has serious problems with Ati graphic cards whatever the reason you can't wait of go through the painful experience of having sluggish windows, lag and so forth.

  • GNU/Linux > Windows > PC-BSD > Mac OS X

  • Windows > Linux > Mac

Why: Windows is highly compatible and is a great operating system all around.

Linux has some compatibly issues, that being said it is very fast which is very GOOD.

Macs are expensive and are just pc or linux with limited programs and a really weird ui.

  • @NWProductionsHD Linux > YOU

  • Linux > Mac > Windows, in my honest opinion

  • why did meh comment geht removed....?

  • great video!!

  • how do you get the dock on ubuntu

  • i dont use ubuntu because of flash.. when i pause a youtube video the audio will carry on about a second after :( if someone could help me out with this i would be very grateful!

  • On this Video you can see how a Typcial Windows/Mac user think.

The GUI is the Operating System.

Well designed GUI = Good Operating System

Bad designed GUI = Bad Opearting System

Your games dont work = Bad Operating System except its Mac OS X. The GUI worths that nothing works

  • Thanks for a very helpful video. As I will be getting ubuntu soon this has helped alot and made me more confident to get ubuntu.

  • in my opinion, te interface is a lot more better than windows 7!

  • The theme name?

  • Thats is like... almost a copy of Mac OSX

  • DUDE! ubuntu is not anything like Mac OS X. just cuz Duncan has a dock dosent make ubuntu like os x.

  • yeah i know, Mac pwns :)

  • :). i will be getting my mac soon. (they are expensive so ive been saving)

  • me too, ill better start saving

  • @sillychicken599 Mac OS X and Ubuntu are similar and different at the same time. When it comes down to the gui of both os's, then they're different. But when it comes down to just using a terminal, well they to me are very similar...like the command lines are pretty much the same. If you want to run windows apps like games or whatnot you'll need to run wine or crossover or just use a virtual machine. I've been using Ubuntu for quite some time and I have both good and bad experiences with it

  • That happens if people set it up that it looks like a cheap copy of OS X ;)

  • Anyone know what that purple/white theme is?

  • RTFM.

  • I installed linux and whenever i boot it goes to xp how do i make it boot to linux

  • When the GRUB manager comes up, press ESC, and choose linux.

  • I just put Ubuntu into the PC comp in the house, it's smooth as hell and it just works...

It takes a little getting use to because of the languages used if your use to Windows but otherwise... it just works... : )

  • nice intros, what you make it with?

  • OMG you say "Z" in like the coolest way! It's like "Zed" not Z (its a good thing) :)

  • its the birtish way of saying it :P

  • can some1 tell me how do i install ubuntu on my notebook 1366x768,cuz when i get to the installation wizard (the one and only in ubuntu.. lol) my screen becomes .. uhm... on lines and sometimes the lines fade my whole screen to black and i cant see shit and therefore i cant install ubuntu.. i guess if i could see i can install drivers set up proper resolution and fix this, but i cant

my notebeook is Fujitsu Siemens Amilo LI 3710.. if some1 can help me i would apreaciate it

  • your setup might be corrupted , redownload it or buy the cds /barrow from someone else . it should work just fine. ubuntu does not need any drivers to be installed

  • the only way that i know is using wine in linux, but i wouldn't recomend it.

  • once you go linux or mac, you don't want to go back but you have to because microsoft is a bitch

  • But can you play decent games on them???? Tell me how to play "Total war" on Linux???

  • you will need a program called cedega , it is a direct x simulator (you will have to find a illigal torrent or buy the program) with it you can play the following total wars atm ;"Medieval 2: Total War , Medieval: Total War , Rome Total war."

  • wow! i agree with liniux. BUT i would never go with mac those parasites

  • Once you go windows, you get addicted to freedom, and not having all the restrictions of Windows.

  • Grr cant find that theme on Gnome look, anyone know the name?

  • Elegant Brit

  • Dang what resolution do you use im 1600 x 1200 and my icons and stuff dont look as small on yours.

  • hows linux when it comes to games?

  • not so good sadly I've had to revert back to runescape to get my daily fill in gaming

  • Comment removed

  • theres a way to play gmes on linux you just need a program.

  • there is always wine & cedega which has trouble running games that uses driectx (which most games need)

and running a virtual box but thats such a hassle to me

so thats why I run emulators & play games like runescape now

  • you can play a lot of game on linux some person gona say that ist not good for it beacause they dont know how to do it well a lot of comercial game now make game to fit on linux ..

  • Linux rulz, its rly easy to use and there are no viruses for it (party)

  • I like Linux better than Mac!!!

  • linux rapes mac and its free, and more powerfull.

  • You can't get more right than that! :)

I like Linux ,but i still use Windows :(

  • @ananui If you don't download carelessly, you don't have to ever worry about viruses (Yes, even on a Windows). You don't even need Firewall to avoid viruses. That's call responisble file downloading.

  • @mrmiguu no, it's called being retarded. A firewall is essential, it stops outsiders from connecting to you, and viruses can infect you without you downloading anything, not having antivirus is retarded.

  • @ananui *There isn't a lot of virus for it. Every OS can get a virus, it's all about user base.

  • I absolutely love it. I don't have to pay for it, and it just works. Plus, you don't have to buy a new machine just so it will run.

  • whats wrong with it?

  • Ouststanding overview for perspective users of Ubuntu, like myself.

  • His theme is "Elegant Brit" if anyone wants to know.

  • Don't forget to check out Wine

  • Go Linux!

  • How do you enable wireless window's drivers on ubuntu?

  • Wow, this was made 2 days before your forum was opened :P Am looking forward to it's anniversary on 28th July 2009 :P

    Mob3 Rocks!!!!!

  • lol it actually came out on the 25th i remember because it was my bday!

  • What IRC channel are you on? I'd like to know more about this "live help" thing.

  • damn u type fast!

  • wat software were you running on the right. i think it was instant messenger can you tell wats it called???

  • Pidgin.

  • i honestly hate ubuntu im so used to building batch files ...

    im looking for something better:

    i hate ubuntu

    i hate vista

  • huh... what's left?

    freebsd?

    osx?

    open solaris?

  • XP :D

  • "thats what happens when you use things that are not free, no legal on same way ..."

what an ugly sentence. Free software is the right way unless you like to be subjugated

Good effort tought. But the power of linux isnt on the user space or the Graphical User Interface, provide more and interesting info, why is so superior to proprietary software and OS. People are so used to the dictatorship of MS and uses Windows just because general society only knows windows. LACK OF INFORMATION.

  • I agree with mansoor9

Bloody good vid. Gonna post a link to it on our local foums.

  • wat did u use to screen capture. i have one but it does not work.

  • I think it's the one built in to Ubuntu, but if you are looking for a good screen recorder, try CamStudio.

  • What screen recorder?

  • camstudio.

  • that is a windows only program

  • Although he usually uses CamStudio, I think he's actually using the one that's built in on Ubuntu, that's why the video quality isn't as good as it usually is.

  • It's perfectly possible to get good video quality with Ubuntu/Linux screen recorders, most likely GTK-RecordMyDesktop (which isn't built in to Ubuntu, no screen recorders are I don't think).

  • either gtk recordmydesktop or istanbul

  • does .exe files work on Ubuntu? thanks

  • if you run them under "WINE" it does

  • It actually depends on wether they are windows executables or linux executables.

  • no they dont. but in ubuntu u can install wine an that lets u install exes.

  • another great video, you are THE BEST!

  • This is a really good video, it gave me some more ideas. I am also a Windows power user

  • how do you make vids more than 10 min.?

  • You have to request a director account

  • can you post a video on how to install tar.bz2 files? plz plz plz

  • wadda ya need a video for?

    given x.tar.bz2

    bunzip2 ./x.tar.bz2

    tar -xvf ./x.tar

and the files will be extracted depending on the tar file you may need to copy the extracted files to a different place

  • like your vids

  • I installed Ubuntu but unfortunately hardware support isn't that great as of yet. It took me days to get sound "working" at all on my Creative X-Fi. I had to use a Beta driver that didn't give me ALSA sound support, or sound in any apps or games. I could run the test beep tone (at maximum volume) but that was it. I also was unable to setup RAID 0 because it is unsupported by GRUB and LILO bootloaders. I will try again in the future, but for now I can't use Ubuntu. I will wait for better drivers.

  • I have been using Ubuntu since February this year - it is great. Far better than Windows.

  • Did ye costomoyz it, mate? :-D

  • As usual, nice video 5*

  • do i need a powerful machine to run ubuntu smoothly?

  • nope - specs of

    # 700 MHz x86 processor

    # 384 MB of system memory (RAM)

    # 8 GB of disk space

are recommended and it can run on less and even faster through certain customisations/using different work environments(kde/fluxbox/xfce).

You can find out more at help.ubuntu(dot)com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements

  • I like ubuntu a lot but still use XP as well have gone the grub root and it's a handy one for when sumink go's wrong with XP as I can still get to my files and on the net just wish it had better support for games then MS could get lost :)

  • hey great video, Duncan!

By the way, have you heard of Dragon NaturallySpeaking? That is why I use to type everything I do!

  • hey josh, thanks. Yes I have heard of it but haven't tried it. Could you make a video on it?

  • hey cant you boot from a cd on ubuntu

  • yep

  • 1 more question is it worth the switch cuz i use windows xp :)

  • What did you use to record your desktop inside Ubuntu?

  • y dont u email your Subscribers

  • 1 question how much did u pay for ubuntu?

  • Its free.

  • its free...like most distros of linux

  • i currently am trying xubuntu out i think the only diffrent is the XFCE interface. I bought a wireless card which didnt use proprietary drivers and its working nice. I just find it a lot diffrent and it needs a lot of tweaking to get it too so what ya want it too.
