He's obviously trying not to laugh when he gets drenched with blood because he wasn't warned there'd be that much before he did the scene- they wanted a genuine reaction of shock, although it almost backfired. The same thing happened with the Chestburster scene in Alien, only the actor playing Kane knew what was going to happen. It's done quite often in horror films, although doing it in a parody may have been a bad idea.
