Looks like aluminum to me. Usually Cast Iron is all rusty looking. Unless these are new castings, and they are the rejects from the line. I deliver into a GM engine foundry. The new iron casts do look like this too. I see scrap engines by the trail car full. They have a low defect rate, Just a very high production rate. Every Iron V6-V8 and the I-4 in the Cruze and Volt. Plus the Duramax is cast and machined at this facility.

had similar problems with Unidrive bellhousing castings when I was working for Alliance Castings here in Melbourne, so so many rejects some times. I wish we had a shredder to break them up for remelt, you could only fit 6 at a time in the furnace.
